There really is an ancient 'Tale of Sinuhe' from the 20th Century BC, about a man who flees to Palestine because he happens to overhear a secret conversation about the Pharaoh. Although he becomes great in Palestine, he prays to the gods to allow him to return to his homeland, Egypt.
