  • "In native language, in native language all people cry, in native language all people laught, only native language your suffering will bear, native language is your mother, everything is sweeter in your native tongue, you'll laugh to yourself in your native language. And when you'll be unable to laugh or cry, when you'll be unable to do a thing, you'll look up into the sky in silence, in your native language."

an ode to the opression of latvians and of latvian language under the soviet rule.

  • Where can i found the score?

  • All their music is epic and makes my ears feel good.

  • It is music that keeps a country alive. Even through fires of hell. Music is more than vibration and sound. It is blood. It is soul. At its best, it is cosmic consciousness - heart of Spirit Divine. In one word: Love.

  • Apocaliptica prolly did this first. Does it diminish how cool these guys are? I think not! It's awesome....... At the oment I can't open their homepage but I'd like to learn more about them! First thing tomorrow I'm ordering a couple of their CD's!

  • @Rhysz1 I didn't even know they had a homepage! Or any CD's! I LOVE THEM!!! I'm a cello player myself! And I adore these guys!!!! ADDDOOORRREEE THEEEEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yea, it's "Dzimtā valoda". One of the most beautiful and the most patriotic Latvian songs. :)

Melo-M rocks, I'm proud to call myself Latvian.

  • The cello introduction is so beautiful....!

Crap, I'm a sucker for string instruments.

    ;P

  • Hey they're not apocalyptica, you cannot compare Melo-M to Apocalyptica.

Apocalyptica is a heavy metal band

Melo-M doesn't play heavy metal, it's not far from classical music.

  • Definitely not Apocalyptica, they have far more talent and are much more learned in musical composition.

  • niceee

  • it is dzimta valoda the group is froam my country

  • Where can I find the music sheet for this? :(

  • 5 star!

  • why do you have to compare it to Apocalyptica?

they never said they are Jr. Apocalyptica band...

  • vins teica, ka Apocalyptica saka ar stigu insturmentiem, tac beidziet vienreiz dirsties!

  • woah........ ur right!!!

  • Now we know who has something stuck up their *ss...why so serious?

  • i think the reality is you have no idea what this particular song means to Latvian people. do some background research, maybe then you'll understand why they love this performance so much.

  • Isn't the point of music to entertain people? Why do we have to take it seriously? Can't we just enjoy it for what it is?

  • Um, Not what I'm saying. I'm saying while you may enjoy being a pretentious jackass commenting like you are the god of culture and intellect, other people are able to enjoy this music because it sounds good. Please. Tell me something "serious and intelligent" about the music you listen to.

Oh and, by the way, this is Youtube. This isn't exactly the place to go if you are looking to critically analyze something. So could you please just stop being a pompous bastard? Thanks.

  • OK...I have to agree with russianargyle...& being first gen CDN of Latvian descent, we don't agree with Russian anything (FYI that is humour)

DOCTORLEXUS you are a complete buzzkill..steeped in negativity which goes far beyond constructive criticism. As a writer, I absolutely hate it when my work is analyzed. I am telling a story, hopefully compelling and engaging. I am successful if a reader becomes lost in the world which I have created. Analysis is an insult to an artist, so stop it!!!

  • @SqvirlGirl ...I'm on Canada West Coast, born Latvia during war. feast of dragons blog

  • I like this guys, but i also agree with you.

Just for curiosity, what do you think about Apocalyptica?

  • may i ask why you call them jokers? no rudeness or arguing wanted. i think their cello playing is beautiful. have you seen their other videos at all? just wondered :)

  • OMG

I want this song so bad so I can play it

  • This version is really good, the trumpets remind me of Sopor Aeternus Ö

  • And russian elephants are largest elephants in the world. XD

  • Actually it is a cover version of Līvi song Dzimtā valoda, wich is about mother tongue as mentioned, an was writen as a dissident song in the dying years of the USSR

  • so, is this song on their album?

  • You can't be more wrong. It's "Dzimta valoda" from latvian band "Līvi". You can find it related videos

  • For me - Russian, it too very pleasant melody. Very much! Live in peace, people.

  • For us - Latvians this song means much! I and this song are in similar age ( I'm 18, this song - more). And everytime i hear this song, it remainds me about Latvian's spitefulness and patriotism against USSR!

  • This is the original

    watch?v=EHgMwM1xJz4

The song is about native language, about how hard times was in soviet era, how we where great outnumbered in Latvia by russians. It is made in time when USSR collapsed...

We were dancing with this music in 1986.

  • Hey, it`s not "Still loving you" from Scorpions! This is quite old latvian song called "Dzimta valoda" from our national rock legends "Livi"!!!!!!

  • Yeah, but some riffs are very reminiscent, I sometimes confuse them humming :) It's believed to be plagiarized, "Still Loving You" is 2 years older. Anyway

  • lol this is not sill loving you, NEVER

  • dzimtā valoda by Līvi

  • thax
