Actually, if you look at an ethnic map of europe at the time...there were many white Russians and Ukrainians living in that eastern part of Poland that Russia took...and it is now part of Belo Russia anyways not part of Russia now. I think it's unfortunate that Germany's border was moved so far to the west along the oder but I guess they felt Poland should be compensated for all the dead poles and dead Jews of Poland.

Better look at the censuses insted of maps and especially these self-made in some MS paint, like above. According to the etchnic censuses between so called "Curzon Line" and the pre-war eastern Polish border lived 39% Poles, 38% Ukrainians, 10% Jews, little bit of Lithunians and some Belarussians, who in most of the cases claimed to be just "locals" (no national identity).

In the pre-war Poland lived 1mio of Germans and 5mio Poles in Germany....
