And we leave our dogs in cages when we are at school/work, as long as they have food and water/aren't in there for days, there's no harm in it.

How do you people know that she was gone at work for nine hours? It could have been a part time job. Besides, when you crate train, you're supposed to make sure they are in the crate while you are out. Puppies sleep for most of the day anyways.

This pure dog is in a serious distress, there is nothing cute or funny about it. You don't have moral right to get a puppy if you have to leave it alone, IN A CARRYING CAGE, for hours. People leave their dogs locked in a spacious playpens, with toys. They just line it with newspapers for the toilet purposes. What YOU do, should be reported to RSPCA. Get yourself a boyfriend to entertain yourself in the evenings, and give poor Gizmo to someone who actually cares.

I wish everyone would do research before reprimanding her for keeping Gizmo in a crate during the day. This is exactly how I trained my Shih Tzu mix who I had from 8 weeks old. She wasn't traumatized, she slept most of the day anyway. Now she is 2 years old and fully trained thanks to crate training, has free reign of the house while we're gone and has never had an accident. Really, crate training is what eventually liberates your dog without leaving you cleaning up their mess all the time.

@Ididntdoit54321 Thanks! That's exactly what I was doing with Gizmo :) I crate trained him for month, leaving him in the crate for only 4 hours at a time. I'd come home during lunch to walk him and then back again when I got off work. Aftter that, I extended the time even longer and crate trained him for 8 hours a day and did this for a couple of weeks. Gizmo now has free reign of the house while I'm gone and never makes an accident! Gizmo still loves crates as you can see in my other videos :)

And you should always get small kennels when you're crate training them, so they won't have any room to use the restroom in there. :)

Crates are supposed to be smallish, because it makes a puppy feel more secure. Dogs instinctually create dens for themselves, so a crate should be tall enough for the dog to sit up. If a crate is too long, then the dog can go to one end, make a mess, and then go lie down in the clean end, which is something you want to avoid.

It's only until the puppy is potty trained, which could take a week or 2, it's not permanent, but if it's wrong to you, than just don't use that method. :)

This is not wrong, she was just crate training him, you need to do this is you want your puppy to be potty trained, so it's either this, or live the rest of your life cleaning up your dogs poop.

For puppies, it's actually a very good idea. It's been suggested and encouraged by vets and professionals.

When you crate train a dog, they are less likely to be destructive or "bad" while you are out. It's also safer for younger puppies, as then they cannot chew on things like electrical wires and get into things that could be potentially dangerous (like cleaning fluid, etc).

Out three Shih Tzus love their crates. They sleep in them at night (doors open) and go there to get away from it all.
