I don't listen to country. In fact, I hate country. Buck Owens is above country. He's his own genre. I'm fortunate enough to have opened my mind to his art. When i'm stuck on the 101 in the San Fernando Valley during a hot summer afternoon, I put on Buck and all is well.
Alvis "Buddy" Alan Owens, Buck's son (with Bonnie Owens, who was later Mrs. Merle Haggard) is @ 1:40 , third from the left. He has several hits in the early '70s, was a regular on Hee Haw, and now runs part of the Owens business interests.
God blessed Buck Owens & Buck blessed us with some of the best country music ever ! We never would've experienced the Bakersfield Sound if not for Buck & Don Rich. Congrat.s Buck. Bet there's a Crystal Palace in Heaven...& Billy Bob's ?
Father and son? I am not sure and who cares? Greath music, voices, and chemistry.. God Bless Buck Owens. I am glad Dwight shared the moment with him, they were and are family, regardless of "blood relation." Blood is thicker than water, but LOVE is thicker than blood. AMEN TO THAT!
Well deserved and much too late receiving this Award! Buck was No.1 of the Country Charts and living in Bakersfield, California. Most of the other Country artists were in Nashville playing politics. Buck did it HIS way and was extremely successful with his music and as a Business man. He had several health related issues and that's the reason he may have appeared to sing somewhat different. Buck had suffered from strokes and also throat cancer! Buck Owens was the No.1 Country Music Artist!
@kentucky9000 Not true at all. He never served in the military. Alvis Edgar Owens, Jr. (he was nicknamed Buck to distinguish 'Jr.' from 'Sr.') dropped out of school at age 15 to help support the family, Before he was 21, he was married and living on the west coast, eventually settling in Bakersfield, CA.
Nine years and several records later, in 1959, he had his first hit with "Second Fiddle". They didn't stop until Don Rich's 1974 death effectively brought an end to Buck's career as a singer.
Buck was an original and one of the best we will ever see . . . he was never the same however after Don passed . . hope you two are playing "together again" in Heaven!

RIP,Buck. You made the world a better place.I couldn't have imagined life without your music when i was a young lad.You didn't need Nashville but Nashville sure needed you.
Buck may have been Drunk, If he was, it was because he had to get on stage in front of a live audience, on live TV, Thousands Watching, next to a man with skin tight rubber lover spandex rump ranger leotards on!!!! Jesus Dwight put some damn pants on!!! The only thing missing was the zuchini Squash Duct tape to his leg!!!
Hell yeah!!! Buck rocks!! I'm also from Mexico and I love Owen's and Yoakam's songs, specially buenas noches from a lonely room and Streets of Bakersfield, thanks for sharing
@onelasssttime I think if you check, you will find that this was after Buck had suffered a stroke. He was never one to appear drunk or allow his band to.
@onelasssttime Buck Owens NEVER drank....When you consider he had throat cancer and part of his tongue removed then you might hit a little closer to home.
Great artist always be great, dont matter if are in halls of fame or not, or if they have the nobels or not, Im a musician from México and I Know who is Buck, hes a great artist¡
Yeah, poor Buck. He hasn't even got a wire. And without Don Rich it isn't what it really was... that was in 1996 I suppose... much too late for a great singer like Buck. He really deserved it a whole lot!! Thanks Buck...
The Country Music Association (the folks who run the Hall of Fame) is a joke to begin with. There's a lot of artists they've done wrong like they did with Buck's performance.
Buck said in a 1999 interview.." After Don Rich died, The spark, the drive, the fire was gone"..Buck never got over Don's death.. It really ended Buck's career as well too. They were a match made in Heaven.
yeah, they wait until these guys are almost gone or forgotten to recognize the contribution they made to music history.we need more like buck today, sadly i don't think we will see any.
Ringo Starr and Buck Owens are the only two people who did this song well

Two great talents - and country as it used to be. Wonderful to see.
I met Buck in the UK years ago - a truly great artist and a sad loss to country when he passed away.
Good on you, Dwight, for keeping his music alive.
