For a moment, I felt sorry for the captain in Pan's Labyrinth when he handed over his son, saying "Mi hijo" And when the captain wanted his son to know about him, like he had a whole speech ready. He looked so sad, wanting to say those last words. And Mercedes goes "No. He won't even know your name". Dang, what a burn. He couldn't even have that. Then he gets shot. But then I have to remind myself that he tortured and killed a lot of people so he deserved it. I mean, he just shot a little girl.
@SirenSima Same here.I felt really bad for him at that moment.Thats the greatness of this movie, how it combines brutality with innocence and fantasy and makes them work together.
That scene left a mark eventhough it was less than in minute in duration.
That scene and ofilia pleading her yet to be born brother not to harm her mom when he comes out and promising him to take him to her kingdom and make him a prince were my fav scenes from the movie.
pan's labryinth was so well made, sure it was dark and scary but all the best horror/thrillers are, hollywood could learn a thing or two from this movie, god i practically cried at the end and i never cry because of movies
Pan's Labrinth shocked the heck out of me when I first watched it.
I should have expected it. I mean, the movie begins with a picture of her lying down with blood dripping out of her nose for crying out loud....but the thought of her dying never occured to me. It's an unwritten rule that kids just don't die in movies. Shooting little girls in hollywood is simply taboo. I forgot El Laberinto del Fauno wasn't a Hollywood faerietale.
@BatteriesDead i cried when ofelia was laying there dying, but when the captain got shot in the face by mercedes brother, i was iike TAKE THAT YOU BASTARD
omg!! i love pan's labrynth!!! i cry every time i see ofelia's death scene!!! and i agree with loner1878, gladiator where maximus dies is better with the original music than this one but this music i think suits pans labrynth better
I think the best part was that the sad music of Lisa's death in the Nowhere hospital in the original Silent Hill was used, I knew what it was immediately and thought just how appropriate it was.
I find the ending scene from The Lovely Bones pretty sad.

@BatteriesDead The real Fairy Tales mostly don't end happily as Disney would like you to believe. Read some of the originals.

the mist, that was epic, and king kong, that was emotional, the new one, titanic, even though its not an out and out death scene

The "Gladiator" death scene is a LOT less sad without the original music...

I'm a real sucker for death scenes, but I think your addition of music detracts from them. It's the goodbyes that get me.
