  • this is just one of many possible ways you could add a sub bass - adding a pure sine synth on top of the bass seems more obvious and simple to me - also adding a return track is not necessary when you already have a dry/wet knob

  • Anyone else think it sounded badass with just the Corpus sound?

  • I did this but noticed corpus was set by default to play more out of the left channel than the right with the "ListeningL" and "ListeningR" controls. Just put a utility set to 0% afterwards or adjust the Listening controls to be identical, although they have a more complicated effect than determining output channel. Just a heads up. Awesome tutorial. Peace!

  • Zomby?!

  • JC! By the time I figure out how to make dubstep it'll be dead like rock and some other new genre will take it's place! lol

  • If Corpus is receiving note information from the midi track, why raise the pitch of the sub bass up a step? It sounded "right" in the video. Just wondering if there was a specific reason for it.

Thanks for putting these videos up! They've been a HUGE help.

  • Can you run an EQ after Corpus?

  • @Sitkaz7 You can run any effect you would like, other than a midi effect, after Corpus or any of the other audio effects.

  • when u create dubstep, is there normally a bassline without lfo and then a wobble bass over it? and then u use corpus on the regular bassline to beef up the bass? or do u use corpus on the wobble bass?

  • @BassBurgalar mono midi? midi carries panning information, but its not a stereo signal...if you mean the audio output, just drop a Mono Utility onto the channel

  • thanks for the vid! I hadnt noticed the midi sidechain in corpus before, awsome! :D

  • WUT IS THAT SONG CALLED

  • For some reason I need to have my transpose on like -30 to get a sub sound...Why is this? I get 'high resonant sounds' still, even when I follow this guide perfectly. The sub sound I get at the -30 transpose is also overpowering, and drowns out the highs in my bass line; making everything sound very muddy.

  • THANK YOU, I FINALLY HIT A BREAKTHROUGH!

  • This was so helpful! I just made the sweetest subbed out 808 kick. sounds soooo smooth. HUGE THANKS!

  • This is an awesome tutorial! The only thing is when I apply this to a send track. I only get full sub sound only part of the time(about 8 bars), then the next 8 bars of the sub sounds quieter. Then the next 8 bars the sub sounds loud again. Its a repeating pattern. I made sure that on corpus the listening left and right are turned up to 100% and the hit is all the way up to 100%. I cant seem to figure out the problem?

  • @rizmlokz could be a phase issue

  • I love Ableton: turning the Off decay On ^^

I still hear a high frequency sound, so I personally would put another (better) filter behind it to hopefully get rid of that high frequency. :-)

  • if i had the money I would definitely join the online courses

  • Hey guys. I came here a month back looking for how-tos! check out my first dubstep track - a remix of massive attacks paradise circus

  • Great Video Man, Corpus is Awesome, I Use It To Create Low-Tones Underscores For Films We Produce, So Many Controls To Tweak It's Mind-Numbing, Ableton Is The Only DAW We Use For All Productions, Sorry, But It's Simply The Best Thing On The Market.

  • Itd be awesome if u checked out my dub! im a new producer I use ableton and dubspot has helped me a ton!!

  • Awesome video!

  • I LOVE YOU!

  • Couldn't you just use a distorted and low passed sine wave? That's what I use for sub bass.

  • @MBnjmn different signal source and path = different sub bass sound/timbre. endpoint: whatever floats your boat.

  • Anyone else think this guy sounds like the coach from the old Adult Swim show, Home Movies?

  • When I use Corpus I'm just getting a really high pitched sound that sounds nothing like the video. Any idea whats wrong?

  • @beastboy3535 transpose it down a bit, you should get a much deeper sound

  • These tutorials are the best I have seen on youtube. Keep up the great work Dubspot!!!

  • yo you should put the background song up for DL its sick

  • Mike has a very sexy voice

  • Wow this helped me very much .. Thanks for these tutorials, and btw Mike u're a very good teacher

  • that bass at 0:43 sounds sooo familiar but i can't quite put my finger on it. what song does that sound like?

  • Zomby - Kaliko

    Such an incredible track....

  • Exactly how much weed has been blasted at your vocal cords??

  • i keep expecting to hear " ok . we jus gonna put some explosive in here, and blow this shit up," or "we jus gonna kick this little asshole in to submission till he sounds right " kinda thing.... badass stallone style....

awesome tutes but...i love em all.

  • nice tute!

  • You sir, have a badass voice.

  • Great tutorial here. I appreciate it muchness. I have a question though. Whenever a wobble hits, corpus is hitting way too hard, like a really sharp beginning. It sounds nasty along with the glide sound. Any tips on how to clear that up?

  • Is it just me or does this guy sound like the guy from the Matrix ahah

  • When i press tab to look at the track layout it is just a straight pink line where the notes should be, how do i get the notes to appear, no drums no nothing, just pink lines? Much appreciated.

  • Hey do you know if the program will work on pc?

  • @MonomeTechnology yes it will work on pc fo sho, get it it's great!

  • Hey man great vid.....how did u make the bass samples that you used in this vid?

  • Can this be applied to a kick drum?

  • @rbsn1155 yes, it can be applied to whatever source you want.

  • Comment removed

  • Like... Bass frequencies. haha

  • Are you into music as a career or something like that?

  • He sounds like Christian Bale

  • is there anyway i could add the corpus to the rack i want to add the subbass on?

i mean i've done it but i don't always want it to be on.. and since i wanna use it to play live, i can't do it on the Arrangement View.

  • this is awsome.

clearest most the the point proffesional tutorial i`ve seen on dubsynths

  • hmm great tutorial, I just can't get rid of that high frequency even when you switch the moddle type to membrane

  • This sounds like the guy off of those MoneyTalks videos...lol

  • excellent tutorial....THANKS MAN

  • what is the track in the itro called?

    it caught my attention

  • @deadrunks

    "kaliko" by zomby!

  • Other than that, Great vids

  • please more tutorials

  • Is this possible if you make a bassline with simpler?

If so i dont think i can get it to work.

  • @RapBattleNerd You can make basslines in Simpler, just a bit different process.

  • you said you would set the off decay to 43% but set it to 45% instead and now i can't sleep because of it.

  • @fuzzjohn you made my day xD

  • hey can you apply this to audio tracks with the same result? also i was looking to get a little more whomp to my kicks, any tips?

  • @nathanstephenjones whomp? .......smh -_-

  • I turn up the bleed a little more for electro house bass, but this does work very well!

  • i bought ableton live 8 didnt get corpus`?

  • @Zkrudriverz -- corpus is bundled with Suite 8

  • @DubSpot i mean i bought the suite

  • @DubSpot y have suite 8 and i didnt brought corpus

  • @Zkrudriverz

    lol

  • whats the name of the track in the beginning ..i need it

  • shit, this is criss angel!!

  • Great tut mick, keep 'em comming mate

  • "now i'm going do ya motha!''

  • great tutorial, helped me a lot. btw, you didn't touch the width parameter here, and i read, it is recommended to turn it to zero, so the sub bass will be mono.

  • Yes. Good call. Sub bass should usually be mono and you are correct that the Width knob will make the sound more mono.

    - Michael

  • i dont get it.. what exactly is "Corpus"?

  • @stupidmex77 Corpus is a powerful resonator effect that is an optional add on for Ableton Live 8. It is a very flexible effect and there are many uses for it. Or you could listen to the fucking video.

  • @stupidmex77

It's an audio effect in ableton 8.

  • thats really subby! a whole new sound with that low resonation

Just add a low pass filter to that nasty bass in operator and you got a really powerfull sub bass

  • Well thats the idea. You can further tune it and adjust the volume to taste. Also, adding a LP filter wont add any Lower Harmonics to a sound, it just removes the higher freqs. Give the corpus technique a try with a bass sound that's more your style, then add a saturator and a compressor after the whole thing to glue the two together.

  • Yeah, i know about that LP thing.

In facts i was talking about removing the higher freqs, to make it pure sub-bass

Btw you should consider to make some online courses, unfortunately i cant go to the usa and take the course personally :(

  • @fermixx registration is open for our new online school! Check out dubspot.com

  • @fermixx one year later...

  • @gomachols yeah, i was a visionary back in the days. The guys at dubspot should have credited me (???)

  • Great tutorial. I've been using Cubase and had a different method, but this makes things so much easier and sounds great.

  • ok.. now i tried it out!

guys u rule!!! corpus rocks. now my neighbourhood hates me hahaha!

but i like the tube model :)

  • dick head, hes not trying to make a number 1 track hes showing you the potential of the effects and more importantly how to use it effectively, you say youve never used ableton, so therefore you dont know, so fuck off

  • oh sorry mate I must have been mistaken, what a usefull lesson this is

    prick

  • haha ok fair enough i just checked out your channel and subscribed too, so your not a bullshitter nice! i was assuming you were another cuntish american youtuber, apparently not! i was just having one of them days, too many pricks on here! anyway some good stuff you got goin on there! what do you use?

  • nice, this comment made me smile

I use Cubase, Massive, Albino, Kontact and various techniques that I wont go into atm

tbh all those tunes are quite old, I'll pm you a link to my new stuff, things are goin well, we just got a few tunes signed

I know what u mean about cocky American youths, tbh I assumed you were one aswell, hence the obnoxious reply! sry bout that lol

  • hmmmm cool i use massive and albino too with a combo of other vst's and fx etc. but i havnt heard of that kontact, will go on the prowl for it now and check it out :-) yer sweet you will have to send me a link mate, some wicked tracks they are, old or not lol! but yer anyway dont worry about it mate, i started it lol :-)

  • i've checked it with studio monitor speakers

as I hear, the original sound has more bass than the corpus, but corpus is louder. i'll give a chance to corpus, and i'm also interested in your tips about deepness :P

you do not have any video, i do not need video, just tell me

  • sounds awful just sample a jamaican bassline and down picth it

  • Very Helpful, Thanks!

  • These are so helpful

  • more tutorials please!! these are fucking amazing

  • does ableton suite 8 have everything that live 8 has?

  • yeah and more

  • if you are upgrading from 7...suite is totally worth it, has more than live 8 alone

  • no you have to get suite 8 if you want to use the corpus effect because its part of the suite 8 collision instrument, but you could get the instrument individually, I just bought suite 8 box version this friday directly from their website in ableton .

  • I have suite 8 and it has all what Live 8 has and it has more because it comes with EIC 2 and drum session, and Latin Percussion

  • where can i get corpus ?

  • Its an add on for Live 8. If you purchase Collision it comes with it.

  • you have to get suite 8 or get live 8 and buy collision seperately

I think its worth getting the suite version the x-Large package the box version.

  • yeaaaahhhhhhh......more please!
