Oh, that's what I said. He's just a puppy. For 13 months I worked with positive reinforcement trainers. Even at the training class he watched calmly as an elderly man walked by. When the man walked out he lunged at him.

I've taken care of a lot of puppies from Rotts to Heinz 57 mixes. You would be amazed at how much personality shows through even at 4 weeks. I guess it's more convenient to put all the blame on owners and media and none of the breed. Yes, all puppies bite, but not bait.

While I'm not arguing that nature and genetics play a role in certain aspects of personality, puppies bite. ALL puppies bite, because they don't know better. We adopted an 8 week pitbull/lab from a shelter. The first night home he pierced my daughter's ear and tried to drag her down to the ground. She was 5; he was sleeping in her lap. She started laughing as he woke & started nuzzling her. Then she got a shocked look and started crying as the blood began dripping down her ear. He would NOT let go. Baiting is in their genetic code, and while many have worked to remove this trait from their breeding program, others have ignored or even encouraged it.
