Go out and get a Line 6 Toneport UX2 or you can go a step down but that will plug in USB to computer and you can plug your mic in to the UX2 which has room for 2 mics and 2 instruments plus a headphone jack. Also comes with a software I would get the gold edition of the software which is called Gearbox and you can change your voice guitar sound and everything. If he doesn't plug his guitar in he probably uses a Condenser mic. And puts that down by the guitar.
