The foorwork, speed and tricks are all Cali, Colombian style salsa dancing. Puerto Rican & Cuban are focused on turns and upper body movements, Colombians are no different than other South Americans. Our rhythm focuses on the waist down(hips,legs&feet)- just watch Samba,Tango,Joropo, Cumbiaand now Colombian salsa. Which my channel has over 100 videos of our style filmed there. I loved the video. Thank You 4 it.
No, no no there was no salsa in the 40's. Not even Machito's music should be called salsa it would be unfair with cuban music. Salsa? 70's stared with Richie Ray & Bobby Cruz, Barreto, Palmieri and Fania All-Stars among many others musicians, most of them New Yorkers from Bronx. I would say salsa was born in New York, not in San Juan or Havana. Do you guys think Tito Rodriguez' music is salsa? I don't think so. Mambo is mambo, salsa is salsa, son is son, plena is plena.
salsa is from puerto rico and cuba but colombians are the best at it.the current world champions are colombians and they win it atleast twice every 3 years....colombians are in charge when it comes to salsa
this is salsa,if you want to dance well firstable you have to dominate your foot, listen carefully the music and look how they follow the music,in europe they teach you only the movements but they dont teach you how to follow the song, after you finish to dominate your foot you can start with salsa cubana or puerto rico. the best dancer of salsa from latinoamerica are colombians, look the championship of salsa in ESPN and you will understand what is first to learn
that workshop is absolutely successfull, colombian style salsa footwork..ı wish could be there, taps, chachacha steps,swing-charleston steps, vauww.and the music is also salsa, but not dominant with tumbao rythm, just not get used to..it is a fusion wth boogalu and mambo..since boogalu includes swing in it,this song is absolutely suitable for this kind of footwork workshop..Thanks for video..Waiting some instructional ones..
Many Europeans dance schools think Puerto Rican style is the one and only. They are wrong.
Cuban style is second in the world. They start on 3 and do lots of turns. Rueda de Casino originated in Miami (see website of "Salsa Lovers") is a kind of salsa with roots in Cuba and American Square Dance.

In Sweden and Denmark, Cuban salsa dominates. It's a bit difficult sometimes to find fitting dance partners who dance Puerto Rican style. I've had the same problem in other places in Europe: in Madrid (Azúcar and Randall) and in Frankfurt (Latin Palace Changó). Barcelona, and Nice in France, are a little "better" in this respect.
Hi Lewan, Here in Rio you have a combination of people who dance Cuban salsa and Puerto Rican style. But salsa is not very popular yet. In TV there are a soap opera that is inserting some salsa dancing, and when this happens a kind of salsa boom follows, but it is very seasonal. Usually near summer people also wake for dance and you find more people in classes. regards.
Salsa has it's origins in Cuba of the 1940ties. With Cuba's international isolation several mainstreams of salsa developed around Latin America and the US.
The style taught in the US, Europe and worldwide is Puerto Rican style is on 1. (start at 1, dance in line, bailar en linea, lots of show dance). There are substyles of Puerto Rican that is New-York Style or West Coast Style. There even is a New York style called "Salsa on 2)
Lewan, this workshop didn´t dive into couple combinations, it explored mainly footwork. The teachers are from Colombia, and this is one way to dance salsa there. I think there is no reason to say that one style may be called "salsa" instead another. How do you dance Salsa in Sweden ?
Weird. It's not salsa that is clear, although the music is, I guess. They stay in one place all the time, practically no couples combinations, only footwork leaning towards each other. I don't know if it's swing or some couples samba. I can't place it.

In Sweden and Scania, salsa is danced the "correct way" of course. ;-) Maybe I just need to be educated. But if this is salsa, then the Cuban and Crossbody styles have a much more in common with each other than either one with this. Interesting piece in either case.

salu2.
