  • Peter Rivera was just awesome!

  • If you weren't familiar with this band and it's lead vocal, you'd think it was Jimmy Hendrix jamming.

  • 0:34 - LOL

  • la première fois que j'ai entendu ce titre ,c'était en 70 .Ca ne nous rajeunis pas.

  • can sb tell me where i find the ecology version of this song?

  • Love that blue eyed soul

  • Peter Rivera is not only the awesome voice of Rare Earth, but he can play a little bit too ...

  • He’s really good and the double bass is very cool for back then.

  • I think R Dean Taylor was the first white act with motown..."Indiana Wants Me"...but these guys are great!

  • @Hannigan47 Gotta see jane is older and I think there was some one before him...female maybe but its cloudy

  • This gotta be the only band I see where the drummer is the lead vocals.

  • @kevinbvom Nawwwwww, Phil Collins of Genesis is another. There's lots others as well.

  • @kevinbvom Don Henley from The Eagles, Phil Collins in Genesis and solo, Eros Ramazotti sometimes during live shows actually :O But yeah it's more common to play a string instrument or nothing at all while singing :)

  • Saw them at Pirates World in Dania, Fl in 1970. They played opposite Ike and Tina Turner! 65-73 my music heyday! Play drums in several well known bands in Miami.

  • @89801wink,, I didn;t know that! cool... I'm thinking "Rocky Mountain Way"

  • @jenkeizer Yes. Gil Moore sang a large portion of Triumph's songs.

  • Thats jaming. Not this junky music that play today.

  • For me ,this is one of the Bests Drummer in the 70'

  • If Tina Turner and the Iketts had jumped ship and joined Rare Earth, this would have been the greatest band ever!

  • I love the double kick drum.... These guys rock

  • @NWSouveniers There weren't many using dual bass drums back then.

  • I could have been a rock star back then...but I wore a shirt.

  • SECUNDARY...OOOH I CRY, GREAT REMEMBER, GOOOOD!

  • RE was a total jam band.

  • drummers who sing .... hmmmm... ever hear of a little band called Genesis? Lead singer and drummer .... Phil Collins? ayup

  • @jenkeizer How about Triumph?

  • This is one of the ugliest looking bands I've ever seen. I really don't understand how people got laid back then.

  • for percussion play is man neanderthal !! \o/

  • @manosnarfi But... he won a charlie manson look alike contest! LOL!

  • Genial.

  • The only other Drummer lead singer I know of was the Romantics and REO. I mean that he actuallly played drums while singing lead at the same time.

  • Humanas Primevil

  • 14 people have no soul.

  • Es buena esta parte desde el minuto 02:45 hacia...!!!

  • Such an awesome song. I've always been surprised Van Halen never covered this with Roth. Seemed right up their alley.

  • Just don't make tunes like this anymore. So Sad......

  • i'm 56 this is my heyday 68-72 in high sdchool original hit by four tops or temptations, only white act to record on motown label.these guys are phenomenal.

  • @steve89z Gotsta get yo' motown jams!

  • @steve89z Amen, Steve!

  • @steve89z

They were not the only white act signed with Motown. I used this as a trivia contest question and I got busted and had to fork out money for an additional prize lol. Kiki Dee did an album with Motown in 1970.

  • @steve89z Wrong, the Rustix were the first all white band to sign with Motown. No hits but they were the first.

  • @Robbob9933 Look up your info....... Rustix was signed to Motown's Rare Earth label.......... So no they were not the first ....."Rustix formed in 1967; the band was signed to Rare Earth Records, a Motown Records subsidiary. Prior to signing with Rare Earth, the band had a single on the Cadet Records label."

  • @steve89z Speak on brother. 69-73 here!

  • @steve89z only white act to record on motown.......I do't think so......check out R Dean Taylor for a start and carry on from there

Motown did have a few other 'white' acts.

    R. Dean Taylor The Messengers /The Ones /Kiki Dee /Teena Marie /Chris Clark /Frankie Valli

    THX for upload !

  • These guys were in a Class all by them selves. The drummer was Greg Allmans fav. singer.

  • I actually thought that these guys were black, cas of the soul of the voice. Imagine my surprise.

  • @listyspisty Oh come on he sounds whiter than vanilla ice.

  • The Vietnam time ;)

  • Great underrated band from back in the day.

  • Good stuff! yehaa!

  • I saw them in Roswell NM in 1973, they played in a High School gym with about three thousand people...totally rocked the place out, and at the beginning the promoters came out and said "sorry, no smoking of any kind"...right... When the band came out the first thing they said was" smoke 'em if ya' got 'em..." and joints were ignited all over the gym. Gotta love freedom.

  • @sopiago Did you see any little green men in Roswell ?

  • @sopiago Roswell, huh? You didn't actually see Rare Earth. What you saw were holographic images tied to a top secret miltary experiment to discover whether we could fool the Russians with images of soldiers on the battlefield, rather than sacrificing real ones.

Either that or weather balloons, I'm not sure which. But you did NOT see Rare Earth, got it?

  • First time I ear this band was in a wild hippie party here in Colombia ,South America....Very good sing......The good times are gine......but still are in my mind...........

  • I saw them in 1974 at an outdoor festival at the astrodome...great music, great time...and as mentioned below, you could get high just being in the audience..

  • I saw them in 1974 at an outdoor festival at the astrodome...great music, great time

  • Wow...I bet one could get stoned just by breathing the air there....

  • love it!

  • Yeah these guys were awesome, they knew how to rock.

  • EXELEEEEEEEEEEEEENTE EL BATERISTA... EL TUMBADOR = EXELENTE TODO

  • I seen 'em a bunch of times at a long gone famous South Florida concert venue called the "Hollywood Sportatorium". The drum solo would last for 30 minutes on "Get Ready". They recorded the "In Concert" LP at "Miami Marine Stadium" , another landmark that did not stand the test of time.

  • that dude fucking brought it!!!

  • Is Rare Earth still touring??--They were a Great Band!!

  • it´s the best song lo mejor de lo mejor

  • Peter Hoorelbeke (aka Peter Rivera) on drums & lead vocal. ED Guzman on conga, Gil Bridges saxophone flute and vocal. Truly one of the best bands in the late 60's and early 70's.

  • Hola!! Estoy de acuerdo contigo no3body, q' los buenos tiempos ya no vuelven, pero al menos nos quedan muy bellos recuerdos, verdad q' si? Saludos desde Texas....

  • I saw them with Funkadelics and Earth Wind and Fire...that was a smoking concert...Rare Earth got down...

  • TOO FUCKING BADASS LOL

  • Love this vid! I am a huge fan of Peter (Hoorelbeck) Rivera and Rare Earth. I have most of their albums including their real first album called Dreams and Answers (a psychedelic rock album on Verve) with an earlier version of this song. That was what Berry Gordy heard that made him want to sign them. These guys were the real deal, a totally class act.

  • pete rivera is the man

  • ¡¡¡¡¡ Esto es musica de verdad, puro rock !!!!!

  • HEY CRECI ESCUCHANDO ESTA CANCION..... EXITOSSSSS

  • 0:33 Stupid hippie moment.

  • I was in a band that opened up for these guys in 1969. Crowd of 2000, probably the biggest audience I ever played for. There were about 4 opening acts all together.

  • Awesome!

  • That is a talent. Today they have auto tune. Sad. Don't think anyone today can do that.

  • @LymaBeane56 i agree, this is skillful stuff. but have you ever actually used autotune? it takes a lot of vocal control. because i don't want to argue over the internet, i want you to go try it out. if you find that it's extremely easy, come back and tell me i'm an idiot. the misconception that you don't need any talent to use it is turning classic music fans bitter and ignorant. isn't rock and roll about having an open mind? give it a shot. tell me what you think.

  • i'm only 13 but i LOVE this !!

  • Alvin Lee! rock,,OD On speed and herion in 72 i think

  • OMFG...this guy is freakin amazing on the drums and a great voice to boot...what the hell happened to this kind of talent...what a shame this generation never got to experience the likes of which we will never see again....hope there's a rock 'n roll heaven.

  • The bongo drummer at 1:41 cracks me the hell up. Awecome tune, though.

  • The keyboard player was my uncle!

  • rare earth one of my favorite coming out of motown..just seen them downtown, at least one original was there playin the hits from the 70's it was awesome!..took me back to my rockin days

  • saw pete sat oct 17 .2009 and he can still get it..........

  • "Very long tracks" were IN..."I heard it tru the grapevine"..."Suzy Q", "Whiter Shade of Pale", "Nights in white satin"..."Eloise"

    the one-side-one-track works of PinkFloyd...

    MMMMMMMMMMMMMM.....Lekker!

  • Peter, the drummer, is fortunate that the drumstick that flew from his hand at the last note didn't fly into his face! That would have hurt!

  • Thanks so much for putting this vid on! Me and my brothers found this album in the basement the other day and blasted it for a couple hours. Great stuff.

  • play drums e sing at same time ..very hard and dificult..this guy is good, very good!

  • @ardrack1 Don Henley Phil Collins

  • IT's CALLED righteous rythymn and a musician. Drummers today aint got much. Though they thinks zo, I say not ,even w/ the dbl. peddles GIMME TWO BASS DRUMS to RIP THEM...

  • @ardrack1 He's also known for dropping/breaking sticks a lot. 2:10 or so he breaks one.

  • @ardrack1 I can't even sing this song while playing the piano! This is way beyond awesome!

  • @ardrack1 damn straight. only a drummer would know how difficult it is. I thought Don Henley was pretty good at it. Don Henley, and I'm a big fan of his, could not have done what pete rivera did in this tape. The best drumming/singing exhibition I have EVER seen.
