I grew up Pentecostal, and they pack the snakes on ice to send them into hibernation. Only certain members bring them. They watch for the snakes to warm then put them up. A few get bit every year and some even die. I have challenged my entire social circle that remain in this lie to let me bring the snakes and poison. NO TAKERS! That is a standing challenge to any church any time. Let me know.

I used to live in Scottsboro AL. There was a snake handling church there. The people who didn't go there saw those who did as backward and freaks. You call THAT religion?

Well your right there. I have seen people bitten, that survived and a few that have died ! We fell that when one gets bit that survives, god is telling you that your not trying you hardest and you need to humbel yourself down. And the ones who die, well its gods will,and you werent living right. We truly belive that if your not living your life just right, then you need to stay away from the boxes, because if you dont have god in your life full force, then he cant protect you !

Quarterhorse: I apreciate your words, I have never been in a snake handling church, and i feel you are sooo right. If all churches had snakes and handled them, it would seperate the ones that are genuine from the ones that are not. It would put them to the test. How many preachers do you know that can preach and still lie and not pay their debts, and GOD knows what. Give them a snake and you will find who has it and who don't. Thanks again!!!!!

I also agree about the preachers. Picking up a rattler dosent bother me one bit. But if i had one doubt that i was out in sin, their is no way i would go near the box ! I am the youth preacher at our church,, and i love it ! Snake and all. lol

quarterhorse: I have been a Christian since 1966 and I have seen many things most good and some not good, I have saw blind eyes opened, I have saw cancer healed on the spot. If we have the same faith to heal cancer we can handle snakes. I am going thru something right now that if we had snakes in the church we could find out who is right and who is wrong. Just because I pray for cancer victims and they are healed don't make some people believe. (talking about lukewarm Christians.

I live on a tiny volcanic island, and we do the same thing with our local volcano. We jump directly into His Holy Magma, the cleansing fire of Our Lord. We are told that the faithful arrive at another volcano, similar to ours, where they spread the gospel of our Lord. The sinners scream, but that fire is but a preview to their true end.

Yes, i understand that, There are several places in the bible where it tells of tempting the lord. One very important place , exodus 17:2. But we consider serpent handeling like a testimony, to prove that god is in control of our life,and that he wont let anything harm us. If we thought we werent liveing right, we would stay away from the boxes. Yes he is coming very,very, soon ! Take care.

This is a good topic and I hope some other folks will weigh-in on it. There have been folks bitten in these services and have died, even though they had the faith to engage in the practice. You might argue that their lives weren't right and that it was God's way of punishing them for some sin in their lives. My take on it is that we are all sinners in some regard at all times and that our only standing before God is the righteousness of Christ alone credited to us by our faith in Him.

I am a serpent handeling preacher from west virginia. I just love songs like this. They dont offend me at all. I understand that people dont understand our faith and belifs, but in the book of mark chap 16, vs 16-18 says. in my name they shall cast out devils,they shall speak in new tongues,they shall take up serpants,and if they drink anything deadly it shall not harm them. But great song ! lol

@quarterhorse210 It seems to me that mark 16:16-18 is a promise as a part of Marks Great Commission that the believers will do great acts and be protected from harm at times. Further, the only place that you find something similar to this is in Acts 28:3-4 where Paul gets bit by a snake, but receives no harm. It appears to me that mark 16:16-18 is not a command to pick up snakes, otherwise we would find this teaching explicit and elsewhere in Scripture... How would you respond to my statement?

Not all Christians are snake-handlers. Some, however, are. The closer they are to being Pentecostal (and yes, there IS a difference between Baptists and Pentecostals), the more likely they are to handle snakes.
