  • I remember this well. Quite a game. I thought Wright got two fingers on Pearsons colar. Correction, he got ONE finger on his colar.

  • Whey did I see this. It makes my stomach sick.

  • I'll take the catch and Dallas can have Tony Romo's botching the snap against the Seahawks.

  • I'm a huge Cowboys fan. In that game, SF had 6 turnovers and Dorsett missed much of the 1st half with an eye injury. With all that, Dal was in pos to win and the D allowed the long winning drive. However, D White played in 3 straight NFC Champ games and in all 3 games he coughed up a key lost fumble. Roger was a winner, one of the best of all time. Danny was talented but not a winner.

  • @kthburke bullshit. danny did more than enough to win the game and if not for a finger tackle the whole point would have been moot anyways. as for the 80 and 82 NFC champ games, danny didnt allow 230 yards to an eagles rusher, danny didnt fail to establish the run (cowboys running game wasnt good in eagles or skins game), danny wasnt on the defense who got steamrolled by the hogs for much of the 82 skins game, danny didnt decide to stick to basic 4-3 flex D holding a late lead over the 49ers

  • @22steve5150 Such language. Dal did NOT stay in FLEX on Montana's last drive. Dal played 7 DB's, so SF ran for the 1st 2/3rds of drive. Finger tackle occurred & on next play just yds fr winning FG White FUMBLED. Game over. If you cant accept that other 2 White NFC champ gm fumbles also changed course of those gms, u need to better study the gm play sequence. U may be only Dal fan who pines for White over Roger. White 0-3 in NFC title gms. Roger 4-2. Roger also amazing 5-1 rd playoff rec. Legend

  • @kthburke here's the bottom line, white engineered a drive late in the fourth to take the lead and the "doomsday defense" gave up an 89 yard TD drive in the final 5 minutes, after danny almost won the game on the pearson pass before fumbling when sacked, which QBs do a lot. the other 2 championship games are not worth discussing because both games the team just got HANDLED, and white would have had to had the best game of his life to have pulled out either of those games, blame the run defense.

  • @22steve5150 Before the Doomday D gave up the 89 yd TD drive, following a Walls INT with 8+ min left Dal had the ball w chance to run down or out clock. After gaining 1 1st down, on 3rd & 6 White overthrew an open Doug Donley on an 8 yard pass 4 the 1st down. White failed, we punted, and rest is history. Winning QB's don't lose fumbles in 3 of 3 champ gms. As far as being HANDLED, Dal had 340 ttl yds to Skins' 260 & Wash avg'd 3.4 yds per carry. If that's being HANDLED, so be it

  • @22steve5150 SF also had 6 turnovers in that gm v 3 for Dal. What r the win loss stats when a team wins the turnover battle by 3? Huge.I still ask u to not cut corners and watch the entire game. In the 3rd qtr ahead 17-14, White from his own goal line threw high off Springs' fingertips and Bobby Leopold intercepted to set up 1st and goal and go ahead TD. An unforced White INT error allowed SF to take a key 21-17 lead. Danny decided I guess to be like Craig Morton on that play

  • @kthburke first, nobody is pining for white over staubach, second errors he made were in addition to other star players making mistakes (and troy and roger and emmitt all made their share of screw ups in big games too in case YOU havent studied the games enough. he did enough to win and actually outplayed montana most of the game. i remember dorsett had his share of fumbles in big games but wheres the "he's a choker" crap? the fact is that the team as a whole wasnt as good anymore

  • @22steve5150 I've studied all 3 gms closely. White threw for 173 yds vs SF w Net Pass Yds of 135. W my great memory, I recall 1 key Dorsett playoff fumble (in that Philly gm), 1 key Aikman INT (pick 6 TD in 94 Chmp gm @ SF on 1st drive),2 Roger int's (1 each vs Pitt in SB X & XIII), & ZERO Emmitt playoff screw ups (tell me Smith's screw ups).Between the 4 players they won 5 SB's & reached 2 others. Dallas did not fall off until the 83 season.Chek 80-82 season stats. Dal was a 4 pt FAVORITE @ SF

  • @kthburke couple of notes. i remember 1 noteworthy smith screwup which was a fumble in sb27 right after buffalo scored to make it 28-17, had troy not fallen on it and recovered it the bills likely could have scored at least a field goal if not a TD (i believe it was in DAL territory) which might have changed the tone of the game. other than that and the the performance in the 95 superbowl (his worst playoff performance by far) he was probably the ultimate big gamer (postseason, mnf, thursday)

  • @22steve5150 Not meaning to be s stickler, but the score was never 28-17 in sb27. It was 31-10 Dal when Buf scored a TD on very last play of 3rd qtr to make it 31-17. I'll take your word for it that Smith fumbled on the next start of 4th qtr possession. Regardless, it doesn't change your correct point that no player is perfect. Just some are less perfect than others. Heck, Montana got benched in '87 Div playoffs in home loss to Minn when SF was favored to win the SB. Enjoy the holiday weekend.

  • @22steve5150 I can't believe I'm hotly debating an apparent Cowboys fan. I likely wouldn't have engaged w/o your "bullshit" intro. "I strongly disagree" suffices. I wasn't offended. It just got me motivated to debate. If you want to keep playing ping pong, fine. Whatever you decide, while I disagree with some of your opinions I respect them. None of this gets my dander up. I have a passion for NFL history, especially the 1966-82 Cowboys. U seem to have a good level of passion too.Have a good day

  • @22steve5150 Addl comment on Philly game. It was bitterly cold with very high winds, so neither team could pass. Despite Philly's run dominance, the score was 7-7 midway 3rd, due to some botched Philly FGs & 2 Jaws INT's. Then White fumbled deep in Dal territory to set up FG for 10-7. White hit Saldi next ser for 28 yds to cross 50. But Dorsett then had a backbreaking fumble, which a def back scooped & returned 30 yds. RB Harris then ran in fr the 9 for 17-7 late 3rd to ice game. TD screwed up

  • @kthburke well that is just my point. white made his share of mistakes but it's not like the team itself played brilliant football in all 3 games and there was just this fuck up quarterback who messed it up, which is the way too many fans seem to remember it. i think that landry, staubach, dorsett, waters, hill, and pearson in interviews about white have demonstrated what THEY thought of him, and they thought pretty highly. just like meredith and morton he never got the respect due

  • @22steve5150 Players support teammates. 'Boys wouldn't throw White under bus just like they didn't to Jackie S or Morton. It's the code.U don't publicly criticize a teammate. Morton nvr got respect due? R U kidding me? Study CM"s playoff stats w bad %, 3 TDs & 8 INTs: '69 Clev: 8-24-92-0-2 (Benched): 70: Det 4-18-38-0-1, SF 7-22-101-1-0, Bal 12-26-127-1-3 (LOST GM); 72 SF: 8-21-96-1-2,(Benched 3rd Q). CM deserved playoff respect? Dandy came close v 2 GREAT GB teams: He took such a beating. TUF

  • Was that a horse-collar?

  • @dolphinsneu I'm pretty sure it would be a horse-collar by today's rules but they didn't have that rule back then.

  • the forty niner franchise lay in ruins. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

  • weak ass niggas! hahaha THE CATCH THE CATCH THE CATCH....suck it dallas, buncha losers son...can't accept it...till this day!

  • What blew the game was White fumbling the ball on that last drive after the Pearson catch.

  • The Catch pisses y'all off cuz it is the GREATEST NFL PLAY OF ALL TIME! Besides Dallas was arrogant back then. Joe Montana is the GREATEST QB OF ALL TIME SON! 4x Superbowl CHAMPION! And he threw the daggar on his BACKFOOT and across his body, that usually results in an int, but it wasn't cuz its JOE!

  • @whoyoufoo123 Yeah, you really knew about how arrogant Dallas was "back then", considering you weren't even born yet. LOL.

  • @GregMaddux31

Dallas be bitchin about a pinkie? y'all are really that gay? Tony Dorsett looks like a crackhead explainin what happened. Pretty sad that u guys deal in what ifs, i can say we deserved to win in 83 and 90, but we didn't, so no excuses

  • @whoyoufoo123 YOU WERE NOT BORN IN 83, YOU WERE A TWINKLE IN YOUR DAD'S DUMB, MIXED-UP, BLOODSHOT EYE, SO STOP TALKING ABOUT "WE" THIS AND "WE" THAT YOU DOUCHE

  • @GregMaddux31 hahahahahaha, someones mad about gay ass shit, I know my franchise's history and I know about Tom Landry. SO FUCK OFF GREG, like you even kno the Dallas cowboys of years past. Horse collar tackle was legal was back then, so get over it, we won you lost. So go to your mom's funeral and stfu hah ..old ass

  • @whoyoufoo123 well, you are "gay ass shit", and I'm mad at you, so... good call!

Also, my mom is alive, so I think I'll go to your mom's house instead, since I always have a good time there, bitch.

  • @GregMaddux31 ooo good comeback mr. medicare lol

THE CATCH + HORSE COLLAR TACKLE = FUCK DALLAS!!

    Joe Montana >>>>>>> panzy white

  • @whoyoufoo123 What the fuck have the niners been lately. Shit stains on anyone's schedule. lol.

  • @whoyoufoo123 Dal and SF have played 6 NFC Champ games and 1 Div playoff. The Cowboys won 5 of 7 games, w 3 road underdog wins, including according to NFL Films the 7th greatest playoff comeback in NFL history when Staubach came off the bench in 72 at Candlestick down 28-13 w less than 7 min left to win 30-28, including 2 TD's in the last 90 seconds. So latch onto The Catch, a classic win, and I'll know Dal beat SF 3 straight times in early 70s & 2 of 3 in 90's. I wouldn't trade places.

  • If that finger wouldn'd have gone in dat jerzey... , Drew would ev gone in an open field T D!!

  • By a pinkie...... fuck Dallas

  • Actually Dallas should have won that game. When the 49ers ran out the clock, Joe Montana ran back into the end zone with 4 seconds remaining, thus a safety.

  • @4JayeP but they didn't

  • As Tom laundry would say ' You dont like close calls then dont make it a close game"

  • Charlie Waters can spend the rest of his life dreaming about that happening.

  • LOL

  • Due why do you guys act like little bitches, it wasn't illegal 2 tackle a player like that back then. Get over it! Football is crap now compared 2 back in the day. Sport has turned into a pussy shit game, making new rules 2 protect players such as Tom Brady from getting hurt so the NFL doesn't loose money.

  • Septian would have made that FG and Boys would have been heavy favorites vs the Bengals.

  • It is what it is Cowboy fans!...................DEAL WITH IT! You got your 5 trophies (3 were bought by Jerry Jones), you got your new stadium.......as if you really needed a new stadium to further fatten your already fattened wallets.

Dallas Cowboys - The New York Yankees of the NFL

  • Hey loser, for your information ALL Championships are bought. Name one team that had 42 "volunteers".

  • Obviously you're a Dallas fan...................I just love it when wealthy teams like the Cowboys and Redskins shell out millions of dollars to players and coaches alike and still not even make the playoffs. That's beside the point..................The Cowboys also have a history of arrogance and being the glamour team of the nfl and I totally resent that.

  • Your point would be valid if the NFL had not instituted the salary cap AND free agency. The Cowboys' roster was raided beginning in 1993. But I would agree with you in that, had there been no cap, Jones would have spent $100 million in 1994 to win a third straight championship, and he would have spent more than that in 1995 to ensure a fourth consecutive NFL title.

We do live in a free market system, after all. Oh well, we did until Obama took office; now that is going out the window.

  • @KL58383...

In case you missed the memo...the NFL has a salary cap. No team outspends another. This is not MLB. The Cowboys or Patriots don't spend more on players than the Rams or Chiefs. Teams that sign high-profile FAs lose out in other areas. When Jones signed Deion Sanders in 1995 (he only played nine games that year because of his baseball commitment), it cost the Cowboys in subsequent years in terms of keeping people they wanted to keep.

  • I remember that play so well.Danny White was THAT close to being a Super Bowl QB, he threw a perfect pass to Drew. The Catch wouldn't even be a sidenote today.NFL history sure would've been different.

  • The "Catch" pisses me off to this day. But that play on Pearson really gets me. But that's football and Dallas had gotten all the break until then. Take away the SB 13 Jackie Smith drop, Dallas had all the luck on their side. But Charlie Waters is right. IF Drew breaks that tackle, he goes another 20 yards, gets in Septien's range, the field is probably good, and Dallas gets it's 3 title. Danny White probably goes to the Hall, as does Drew and the Catch is just another forgotten play.

  • Hey sorry thats just a bad luck for Dallas Cowboys ..The horse collar tackle was legal back then , but today i still wish they would ev won the game .Very close game . Person was just inches away from seperating from eric wright s hand he barley grabbed him .if not the tackle the score would been Dal 34 Sf 28 ... 3 defends would have been chasing to drew on the open field!!!! just picture in ur mind!!!! drew running for TD.. That just a worse loss for Dallas game

  • Hahaha...correct me if I'm wrong but isn't every team that wins a SuperBowl "bought". Is there a team out there that all it's players play for the "love of the game"? What a dumb-ass argument. Why try to dog Jerry Jones for putting the best players on the field? Isn't that what you are supposed to do?

  • MAYBE I'M JUST OLD SCHOOL. I believe you always build your team through the draft, not through going after high-priced free agents.........Look at the Steelers: for the last 40 years, they've always built their team exclusively through the draft. They're not big on free agency.

  • "Bought by Jerry Jones"?

You have no clue whatsoever what you are talking about.

Free agency hit the NFL after Dallas won its first championship in 1992. Other team proceeded to go after Cowboys players in 1994-95.

The ONLY player that made a difference and for whom Jerry Jones shelled out huge dollars was Deion Sanders, who was signed prior to the 95 season.

Free agency and the salary cap HURT the Cowboys far more than it helped them.

Get your facts straight, will you?!

  • Dallas won its first championship in 1971 (January 1972) Super Bowl.

  • So YOU get your facts straight!

  • I should have been more clear: Dallas won its first championship OF THE NINETIES following the 1992 season (with championships to follow the 93 and 95 seasons). The Cowboys did win their first NFL title following the 71 season, 24-3 over Miami. Their 2nd Lombardi trophy came following the 77 season, 27-10 over Denver and its Orange Crush defense. Since my response was to Jerry Jones "buying" championships, I thought my comment was clear enough to all who followed the thread.

  • @KL58383 I'm afraid you're mistaken. Jerry Jones has not successfully 'bought' a championship. He's tried, but failed in the past 15 years. Free agency broke up the nucleus of the '92-'93 Dallas team that was so dominant. It's futile to play the 'IF' game, but IF Jimmy Johnson remains the coach, and free agency had not begun in the NFL around '94 or so, THAT Dallas team might've won 6 SB's. No team has had that kind of talent since then, because no team can afford to keep them together.

  • not just the horse collar rule guys, if the 2 point conversion was being used back then, landry would have gone for 2 when dallas scored to take a 26-21 lead, on a beautiful danny white to doug cosbie td pass! then it would have been overtime after the catch. this is still the greatest nfc championship game ever, but i did think pearson was gone..........

  • Whenever "Americas Team" loses a game and I am glad they lost this one, their fans always think of an excuse. The Niners turned the ball over six times and still won. The Cowboys were rewarded an interference call late in the first half that lead to a touchdown and that was no interference. I hate the Cowboys and I love the Niners and Steelers.

  • seanpatf yes ur correct u got the right point ..... wright would have been penalized for pulling down pearson .......... , but back in the 80s nfl didnt had many rules............ so it sucked that cowboys lost........... the horse coller tackle should have been 15 yards penalized .... any ways Go Cowboys!!!

  • Just think, in today's nfl, Wright would have been penalized for a horse collar, and the Cowboys would have been in Field goal range.
