@mitchcapone Larry Collins went on to become an acclaimed songwriter, best known for writing "Delta Dawn". The Collins Kids continued performing together into at least the mid-1960s and have in recent years reunited and continue to perform.
You have to wonder if the fact that this is an inter-racial dating song went right over this crowd's head. It was not an uncommon theme in the real, jazzy rockabilly, though.
Great rockabilly! I'm reminded of Gene Vincent & Carl Perkins... and the guitar has some Chuck Berry influences, fo' sho'... (& I'd love to hear that Gibson Hummingbird today...) fun stuff! ^..^
Just as well they hadn't discovered Ritalin in the 50's or Larry would have never capitalized on his talent. Great stuff though, always a pleasure to hear the Collins Kids.
Tremendous talents, but I don't think they pre-dated Elvis. Lorrie was born in 1942, so if she is 15 here, that makes it 1957. Elvis was doing stuff before that. Still, great stuff, especially for two kids.
There first recordings were made in 1955 according to the liner notes on "Rockin' Rollin' Collins Kids" from Bear family Records in Germany. and they were quite smoking in their own right. They certainly were there from day one!
Ya girl rockers not getting recognized, also Art Linkletter at Capitol promoted them as a kids act, (she was only 15 or 16 in this video, I think) so they remained a novelty, even tho they were doing stuff like this long before Elvis.
born in Pretty Water Oklahoma. Their dad sold everything the family owned to take the kids to California. The Town Hall Party tv show was broadcast from LA
I've heard their studio recording of this song and why it wasn't a big hit back in the day is beyond me. I know part of the problem was the general American audience of the time would not accept a female rock and roll star. That's why Lorrie Collins and the likes of Wanda Jackson - the hard rockers as opposed to pop crooners like Brenda Lee - remained relatively unknown to Joe Public while Elvis got all the glory, which is sad.

It's clearer in the studio version, but obviously someone had heard BO DIDDLEY before this recording. :)

@aliceborealis If that's the most creative criticism you have to offer, why bother? Jealousy is an ugly thing.

@saskabush2006 how do you think the black musician felt? Elvis was getting all the attention. But well earned too!
