When you kiss a Westies face, you are being a puppy not the boss.
The dog is growling because his belly is exposed. While he is in this position a large predator could tear out his belly. See what I mean? It's instinct that makes him growl as a warning. I have had many Westies. The alpha ones don't like to be put in a submissive position like that. It's better to wait till they are lying down and relaxed and playful to put them in this position. You assert that you are boss and they learn to trust you.

c. If he does give warnings like that snap him out of it (remaining calm and assertive) by touch the neck or if you have the lead give a little tug to the side.

that is not a typical westie behaviour. they can be little moody but there is something wrong wit ur dog to react so badly. i never seen a westie displayin its teeth like that.

My dog would freak if i picked him up so,when playin around with him, i would pick him up, toss him on the couch, then i would flop on the couch. He would run right up to my face, teeth bared, and growling like the dog in this video. As long as i acted scared he'd stay inches from my face/teeth exposed, and snarling away. In the split second it took me to to talk baby talk to him,he'd give kisses ,tail wagging.
