Does anyone know the name of the actor who played the dying soldier, he does remind of a Jan-Michael Vincent, but most likely and Italian or Spanish actor.
a ete filme en espagne, exactement a ALMERIA,si vous passer dans les beaulieu de cette ville vousaller trouver les plaques publicitaire de toute les film notament les western spaguetti tourner a cette ville
What's also powerful about this scene is how the three main characters are engaged in intense violence on a personal scale; yet find their violence eclipsed by the mass scale that is warfare. There's a certain sobering sense of the senselessness of it all.
I love how the Man with No Name is about to take back his overcoat, changes his mind and picks up the sarape/poncho instead...trademark of what he wears in the other two (earlier) films.
When I have a great beer buzz on this scene makes me cry I don't know why. Maybe it the compassion a another white man gives to another in a time of need.
The Confederate soldier looks so much relaxed and more ready to die when Blondie gave him is coat and i think it's the beauty of this scene. A guy came, saw the soldier, showed a bit of respect and was good towards him, he was feeling like ok i can go now. Maybe he could not do anything about the wound but he did something that was more helpfull than anything else... He was good.
I like this scene with The Man With No Name and that lone Confederate soldier.
They dont exchange a word. Clint shows him niceness twice: once with his coat, and the second time with his cigar.
I guess there was nothing he could have done for that Confederate soldier. But its nice that he even entered the (blown up) building and showed the kid some form of niceness.
Nothing could be done. The kid had a belly wound, probably gut shot from a lead ball, and he had to know he was going to die. It was nice to offer him a few puffs from his cigar and keep him warm. Maybe it took his mind off his guts hurting so bad. They probably felt like they were on fire from the slug bouncing around inside his belly. Instinct had the kid clutching his belly trying to keep his guts from oozing, but it was obviously painful to the touch. He was a boy, but he died a man.
@neohubris Your both right, but it was filmed mostly in Spain, and thats not the reason its called a Spaghetti Western, its called that becuase they wer realised in italian
next time a motherfucker tells me in public that the wild bunch was a better movie than this epic flick.......i'm gettin locked up for assault....i hope clint cuts me loose !
does anyone know where to get the scene in that tuco and blondie meet the union troops which are full of dust so the troops look like confederate?? i love this scene so much!!
Clint was so cool lighting his cigars. I smoked back in 68 and remember lighting my cigarettes with a stick match with my thumbnail because of Clint. Not good to smoke but that was the way it was.
I Must agree. That music chokes you up. It's also in the same scene where Tuco is getting tortured in the prison camp and the POWs are singing it. The guard says: it needs more emotion. Inside, Tuco is getting hammered and the POWs all know it and feel great pity for poor ol' Tuco. Genius.
Fantastic scene. My favorite in the entire movie and maybe one of the best in any movies I've seen. With no dialog just the actors acting and wonderful music it gets right to viewers heart and sadness of war.
As a filmmaker myself, this is the very scene that really REALLY wanted me to pick up the lens! The music is amazing, even for the high high standard of Morricone. The amazing detail and style of this scene, even with the high high standard of Leone. Very moving and strong every time. Seen over 10000 films, and this is it, the greatest 5 minutes ever. Thanks for sharing this.
nah, u got to remember those times. In those times u rode your horse even if he died till u got to where u needed to go, u ate it if u did not have any food. U killed a horse if wanted no one to pursue you or to stop your enemy. It was not cruel, it was way of life. So blow up that horse..YEAH!

He has a name, it's Blondie.
cullenm9 2 years ago
No, he does not have a name.
At least its never revealed.
"Blondie" is just what Tuco calls him.
This whole Spaghetti Western trilogy by Sergio Leone featuring Clint Eastwood is known as "The Man With No Name Trilogy".
No doubt that he is CALLED "Blondie" by Tuco. But thats not his actual name.
