In a modern age, it's not possible to write a constitution before Bentham, Mill, Marx, Rawls and any other number of great political philosophers after 1787 and have it applicable towards modern day politics. But mainly very few Americans have actually read the constitution and far fewer have a grasp of political philosophy from the late 18th century to understand it.
But it is the Binding Agreement of civility that we live under, political philosophers after 1787, that's like saying "Man I wish pedophilia and murder were legal" and now we are going to have a debate as to whether we will get caught in acts of pedophilia and murder.

Bunch of idiots on here. Social security is a pay-as-you-go system. There is no retirement fund. The money payed into the system is sent directly to retirees. No money is being put away or invested. When Social Security first started it was just 2% of payroll. It's 12% of payroll today and to continue funding the increasing number of retirees it will have to go up to 18%! The surplus this moron is talking about is IOUs from the federal government. This is an unsustainable ponzi scheme.

In a modern age, it's not possible to write a constitution before Bentham, Mill, Marx, Rawls and any other number of great political philosophers after 1787 and have it applicable towards modern day politics. But mainly very few Americans have actually read the constitution and far fewer have a grasp of political philosophy from the late 18th century to understand it.

This happened with the unionization of workers and Teddy Roosevelt's progressive policies in the early 20th century. Bunch of idiots on here. Social security is a pay-as-you-go system. There is no retirement fund. The money payed into the system is sent directly to retirees. No money is being put away or invested. When Social Security first started it was just 2% of payroll. It's 12% of payroll today and to continue funding the increasing number of retirees it will have to go up to 18%! The surplus this moron is talking about is IOUs from the federal government. This is an unsustainable ponzi scheme.

They get us stuck in illegal wars, run up the deficit, and cut programs that will undermine America's future. Democrats have just become cowards, but I believe Ron Paul is a Libertarian, and everything he stands for is what the American people stand for. @calimar28 yes when jimmy carter had the dept of education in the late 70's only one third of americans didn't graduate high school and 80% could read at a grade 10 level in the proceeding 30 years almost half don't graduate two thirds can't read at a grade seven level! and even some college level students can barely read and write!

I don't understand how this plan is going to reduce the debt. If anything it sounds like it's gonna make the debt grow even faster. Reducing corporate tax rates helped to start the ballooning of the debt in the first place, while SS and medicare contributed nothing to it. I don't get it.

Actually they have a "excellent" reason for cutting it. They spent it on illegal wars and killing of innocent people all over the world so now it is US citizens turn to be screwed. Theres no unity because of that and so no revolution. There may be a million here or there that believe one thing, but just as many or more that believe something else. Snap? You either create a fair tax system which unplugs the money blocking the top, and empower the lower and middle classes, OR you keep convincing people that the "government is bad" until they wake up one day and realize all their liberties have been sold to corporate interests.
