Taking into account the definition Merriam-Webster gives for 'Goth' no, it can't.

While it does hold a darker mood than some songs it's not 'rock music marked by dark and morbid lyrics.'

And if you consider the times the Goths were around, I find myself inclined to doubt it originated from such culture.

I covered the Era.

Considering the time the first Castlevania came out in 1986, it's a bit difficult to picture how it came from the Gothic culture, which is what I was referring to in my previous post.
