This song always takes me back to my youth - to all those wonderful summer days at camp, all the dear friends of my younger days - my all-time favorite artist singing my all-time favorite song. Thank you James. Your music has been the soundtrack of my life, and I thank you for that. God bless you.
I'm from Harnett County, NC, about two hours from Chapel Hill, where JT is from, and I can't sing this to myself without getting a lump in my throat. I live in DC now, but "in my mind, I'm gone to Carolina" when I hear this.
James Taylor has a style and grace that is timeless. I've listened since I was a teen in the 70's, and still listen today, and so do my children. Thanks you Mr Taylor for the years of good music.
As a young man born in High Point, NC and currently living in Charlotte, NC, and as a UNC fan. thank you for this song James. I will always have a way to remember and think about my home no matter where I am.
@nhra76 lol of course. and the nice spring days. and football in the fall. even winter is nice here. I'm definitely looking forward to summer tho. we've had a couple warm days the past couple of weeks and they were fantastic. same to you.
@Nick22pr Wow, thats great, I live in Seattle (unfortunatley) haven't seen the sun in like a week lol, I have gone to Carolina in my mind!! I Want to go this summer for real again though haha. Ever been out to the OBX? We go alot, we have a cottage in Kill Devil Hills.
This is my favorite song by JT. I am from Berkshire County Massachusetts same as JT. This song reminds me of Dale Earnhardt as they played it on the televised memorial for Dale. When I went into the Air Force in the early 90's I was in Basic with and went to Tech School with a guy from Alabama and he got me into NASCAR. I was hooked and will always love it. It was a long time after Dale's death I could watch a race without a tear and I am a 24 fan. Anyway Love you JT awesome song!
Thank you for your service Phoenix I'm glad you have music, songs like this one as an outlet to set your mind at ease during the tough times you are undoubtedly going through, stay safe.
@ricolalozenge Age should have nothing to do with liking this music - James sings about when we feel vulnerable; lonely, homesick, lost or confused - something that no other artist I have ever heard has studied. This makes him like a friend, and has been where we are hanging. This in itself is a wonderful thing - I recently had a similar experience to that described in "Fire and Rain". I listened to the song, and knew that I wasn't the only one who had suffered like that. this is for all of us.
I've lived in North Carolina all my life and have worked at the UNC for many years. One doesn't have to leave UNC or the Carolinas to love this song. Has a melancholy sound to me--and I LOVE it, and love James Taylor. His voice is soul-soothing, imo..
I grew up on a little farm outside of Charlotte,NC.This song makes me think of the ole homeplace and those generations who passed on.Thanks for the song J.taylor
Can't really go with James' politics. But, he's a musical treasure. American music in a one of a kind style. He's a genius becuase, there never was such a sound before him.
Don't like his politics. What, the politics of fairness bothers you? Not sending people to fight a war with people who didn't have anything to do with it bothers you? Paying people $7.00 an hour while others make millions bothers you? Trying to stop the companies that wreck the planet owning the politicians who rule you bothers you? Wanting to make health care affordable so that millions in a developed country don't die needlessly bothers you? Yeah, what a bastard.
pattipatpat...First of all, "fairness" is when everyone has an equal chance to realize the fruits of their own labors...not, to live in an irresponsible manner to then, be dependent on the fruits of others' labors. In America, we all have still have that same fairness, provided that the government doesn't try to expand itself into something so large and expensive that we will all be its slaves in the form of taxes for the programs you espouse. Your thinking only leads to freedom's downfall.
Try taking your head out of yours. I'm old enough to know that I pity the future of my children if people who think as you do end up voting. Hopefully, you will not have a GPS device in your car and, being forced to rely on your ability to read a map (inability), you'll get lost on the way to the polls. Take a course in economics 101 and learn the structure and function of your own government. Then, you'll make intelligent posts here.
AllusCats> i think your old or born with money, if your old enjoy the FREE medical i'm paying for douche. your thinking leads to the continued exploitation of the american people by only giving benefits to the few.. and as for slaves check out walmart and how much money the donate to politicians vs how much the pay their workers.. my guess is your old and very white. good day.
Oh...now it's getting clearer...you're black...or some other poor minority who is still blaming everybody except themselves for their station in life? When are you going to get it...? In America, you can achieve what you want to. No, I'm not "born with money" as, you say. In fact, I make less than $15 bucks/hour and my wife makes under $10/hour. We have three kids, the twins are autistic and we've never gotten a dime from any government agency, state or Federal. My race? Figure it, yourself.
See, there...the admin. deleted your vulgar posts. Good riddence. Those who must resort to race baiting and profanity don't deserve to be on a site that is in praise of James Taylor's music...which is how my posts started. Those on the extreme Left can't take the truth.
lol... extreme left? i live in indiana im white and irish.. bought my first gun when i was 18 paid a guy i was working construction with at the time due to having to be 21.. as for profanity.. ass and douche are no where near profane.. and no ones removed any thing.. as for "attacking" your race.. my point is only you cant put your self in another persons shoes thus only seeing one side of the coin.. and not what things could be.. but hey youll get medicare
Being white and Irish and living in Indiana doesn't mean that you are not a Leftist-thinking individual, does it? As for "...what things could be..." as, you say...that's what concerns me. Here's what I (and millions of others, as well) want to see happen. - less Federal government in our lives...smaller government. We don't more big government, we need less. You seem to be advocating for more government in our lives...and, it's plain to anyone with any sense that the Federal gov't. wastes.
oh im for way less federal gov't. i see the waste every day due to working at a major airport.. i would like to know how often you deal with the fed and what you think needs to be removed. i'm for any thing that will actually work and raise up the bottom to middle class and stop our leaders from being bought.. there is common ground and most of the time its lost on politicians theatrics.
Term limits would be a step in the right direction though, it's doubtful that that would completely eliminate corruption at the Federal level. Career politicians are sitting ducks for the huge Washington lobbyists, it would seem to me. Tax cuts would stimulate the economy more than anything because, it would give business the money and the confidence to wedge things forward, again. The national debt will reach (if it hasn't already) the breaking point for this economy. Then, it'll be anarchy.
How 'bout I wish you a Happy St. Patrick's Day (since you're Irish) and try to have a discussion rather than all of this. My intention originally, was to comment on James Taylor as a brilliant and sensitive songwriter, musician and singer not, to argue. I see what you're trying to say...I just don't like big government and big taxes...I think it's in conflict with what made this a great country and what it was founded on.
@pattipatpat Haha well I think, when completely taken out of context, everyone would agree with those things....but amazingly politics and life are a little more complicated than that. =P. I love James Taylor though and I think we can all agree on that.
It's an Olson. They're handmade by James Olson. He makes some of the finest guitars in the world. The James Taylor signature model has a cedar top and rosewood back and sides. It goes for around $15k. They're very expensive but they're the best guitars I've ever seen.
Some songwriters can sing their songs well - some have them sung better by others - e.g. Beatles 'Little Help' by Joe Cocker - but this guy's songs are so personal and perfectly felt that no one in their right mind should even think about performing them...in public anyway.
@Buzza18 I heard him for the first time 2 years ago on the Howard Stern's show of all places and I got hooked too.He sang a beautiful rendition of 'woodstock' you should check it out.
I just want to thank James for this song. I was borne and raised in salisbury NC and I have been in the Army now for ten years. And I have never been more homesick for the Old North State than I am right now. But when I hear this song i go to North Carolina in my mind and i feel so much better. Ive been alot of places but theres nothing like that Carolina blue sky on a cool October morning. You must forgive me if im up and gone to Carolina in my mind!!!!!!!
@phoenix499 I'm mexican, and I'm saying this because I can't even understand what being in combat is, I read your coment and I guess maybe just maybe started thinking what would that be, I just wanna say to you good luck, stay alive and safe. It's too bad that James felt he needed to have the reinforcement in the form of Larry Goldings. Not to take anything away from Mr. Goldings as he is a talented artist but in many cases such as this tune, it only serves to make the music sound "busy." I remember JT's unreleased 1988 PBS broadcast from this same theater where he started completely by himself and it was magical. JT's plaintive voice accompanied by nothing more than his inimitable fingerstyle guitar is nothing short of perfection.
Isn't he just awesome! This is the first song that drew me to the man's music. I have never looked back since. James, I am a afan for life...there's nobody else out there that I'd rather listen to when I need to relax and feel good :)
This song always takes me back to my youth - to all those wonderful summer days at camp, all the dear friends of my younger days - my all-time favorite artist singing my all-time favorite song. Thank you James. Your music has been the soundtrack of my life, and I thank you for that. God bless you.

Thanks JT for your concert in Valencia (Spain) last July 25th. It was simply perfect!. Your music sweets our heart.
