Frenchpony - I am inspired by your aunts story. I am actually reading her book right now! The movie is dramatic and entertaining - I like it, but I am sad for your aunt it was so dramatized from her story. She really sounds like the actress in the movie in that clip.
@TheFrenchPony if your aunt was so lovely and loved her horse so much, why did she make it jump off a platform into water? This is NO type of stunt. Just cruelty.

you say the horse isn't scared - would YOU want to do that??? That could damage it's neck, you stupid cruel neglecting people. get a life, if I could see anyone of you who are 'for' this - then well - all I can say if you are all f*cking idiots. CRUELTY TO ANIMALS - END OF. & I heard it's coming back - apparently it won't it's against animal rights. go rot in hell you idiots >:(
Love it. This is the only clip of Sonora diving that I have come across. What an amazing person she was. I wish I had the chance to meet her before she passed away in 2003.
My mother-in-law Pearl used to be a dancer on the Steel Pier. Now she's fat, ugly and smells really bad from lacking to shower. This is 100% true and not made up!
When you watch the show jumpers in the Olympics jumping 5 foot jumps do you think they started jumping that height on their first day of learning to jump!
Sonora was my Aunt. This was the best clip I have ever seen of her as a young woman. I was so nice to hear speak as well. The horse she is with is Red Lips..He was her favorite horse. My other Aunt, Arnette Webster French also dove the horses. Some people say they must have forced the horses to do what they did. Sonora told me many times the last thing anyone would want was to be up on a tower with a horse that did not want to be there.
@TheFrenchpony Ok, so how did it all worked out the first times the horses was at that height? they just jumped? nah...of course they were forced, all for human amusement, thats it, no less.
@TheFrenchpony well the question i just submitted...was answered when i scrolled down lol. Sonora is an inspiration to me...not only because of having seen "Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken", but because of the determination she had not to let her handicap prevent her from what she loved to do. Her story reminds me that no matter how difficult things get, imagine diving a horse...blind...and it makes me feel that nothings impossible if you only believe you can do it.
@TheFrenchpony I read that Sonora went blind after a bad jump when she hit the water with her eyes open. I'm curious now if horses close their eyes before they hit????
Also read that no horses were ever injured - but maybe some had eye injuries that were never detected or perhaps it just was not a problem for horses. Seems odd. They have such big eyes. I'm surprised the rider could hold on after hitting the water.
This is Sonora Carver. She damaged both eyes when this stunt went wrong in 1931, and was blinded. You can see she is blind in this video. She continued for another 10 years. The horses would not do it if they disliked it. Animal rights people would never allow this these days. Dives were done from 20 metres but the height was reduced later.

These horses were not terrified one bit. They loved diving like racehorses love racing. Very many people say so.

This is to the comments from (lindhos)
Of course they did not start the horses on the high tower. They were started on very low ones and worked they way up from there.
