Annie is a glorified papparazzi.

Annie has taken credit for an idea she says she got from Whoopie Goldberg, that being the bathtub full of milk whoopie thought would turn her white. I have seen a movie called Watermelon Man from 1970 which in it, a white man awakens to fing that he is black and hetries to turn himself back to white using milk in a bathtub. Pure plagerism. Please someone tell her to quit using that idea as her own.

She is without doubt a talented photographer, but one comment herein mentions her as an artist. In-fact, she is not recognised as a photographic artist, despite her high profile as a commercial photographer. This is mainly because she does not conduct her affairs as that of an artist, which is an essential element. A recent editorial on the subject in FT Magazine makes interesting reference to the fact.

What makes Anne Leibovitz stand out from the crowd of pro photographers is the fact ,that she is not only excellent photographer, but also she is an ARTIST.

Being an artist allows her to see much wider range

of possibilities in photography .

I don't think ,that every picture she is making is great, but overall her portfolio is really,innovative,professional and most important -outstanding.

The last 2 comments are way off and a couple of idiots.. Those opinions are so so from a couple of people that can not see past the "notoriety" of her fame and really see the "Depth" of her images and the story the truly tell.. With one still image she really tells a persons story and personality like no other can. As well as the icing on the cake she makes that image a Grand Master Painting of a portrait. Those two I can tell have never seen her traveling "Gallery" of large original prints.

Just one woman and a camera, an 11 assistants, and a million dollars worth of equipment, and make up artists, and Hollywood A listers performing for her. How DOES she do it?

for most of her work she uses 2 lights with Elinchrom Octaboxes on boomstands. She switches between a Hasselblad H3 and a canon 1Ds Mark 3. Sure, its nice gear, but not overboard. I think she does good work because she is willing to prepare for 3 weeks, just for a half hour shoot. She has been working like that for decades.

@baotuzi Of course because she deals with "I have an agenda, so lets hurry it up" type of clients, but then again - not her fault, shes the most renowned editorial photographer in the industry! If it wasnt for the work demand, I bet Ann could shoot 8x10 on an old Kodak Master view camera and make great photos just like the old masters did (Adams,Weston) because she knows its not about equipment, its about the eye, and boy does she have it nailed ;)
