"I was looking forward to doing something in the action world"
There was action in the Max Payne movie? I remember a boring, instantly forgettable and drawn out clusterfuck of a story. The only slice of action I can remember is a small gun fight with a slow-mo move at the end. Came away from the cinema feeling robbed.
@rubbaduckgurl27 ive also noticed that all the films i like and my friends possisbly like are films that critics hate, they like the old flims made ages ago, i feel that the acting simply sucked back then (obv. reasons) but anyhooo :P
@rubbaduckgurl27 Well obviously they do...and is Marky Mark gonna ruin another game, uncharted, by filmatizing it? Hopefully they get Nathan Fillion or something to play Nate. Point is; people had a great time and experience playing these games, and then someone just HAS to make a movie about it because the game is a success...it's all about money -.- You don't watch a thing as a thing. You watch it. Then you like it or not. And then you get served the same story twice, but it's best the first.
So basically, he didn't admit to being a gaming addict, he said he played the game a little, and one of his friends played it a lot. Then the reporter interprets that as "You're a gaming addict?". That's some piss poor journalism right there. That's about as poor as responding to an interviewee who says "I drink a little" by saying "So you're an alcoholic?". You're putting words in their mouth and creating a story that doesn't exist. This guy is a flat out terrible journalist.
Now that I think about it Rubbaduckgurl, make that 2... Silent Hill wasn't terrible, it just tried too hard to cram Silent Hill, Silent Hill 2, and Silent Hill 3 into one film, and you ended up with Rose who is basically a composite of Harry(SH1) and Heather(SH3) and it isn't like Konami tried to distance themselves from the movie, I mean Silent Hill Homecoming had some elements of the movie.
@rubbaduckgurl27 There is a difference between expecting too much, and changing the source material which is what happens 99.997% of the time when video game movies are made. The only video game movie I remember staying true to the source material was Final Fantasy VII Advent Children. THAT is why the game FANATICS are so critical of Video Game movies.
If people expect so damn much from a film based on a video game, would it not give the director more incentive to consider his actions? If people expect so much, the director may as well think. There is no reason to TRY and make a film about something one does not understand. Only to have the viewers hate it and possibly never watch that gimmicky directors films again, giving it a generally bad reputation. I love video games, and I would love to see good films about them rather than destroyed.
Mark admitted in this interview that the script is what he liked and that he didn't play the game. The character may have been driven by emotion in the movie but you didn't get a sense of that from the film. The story in the game was too deep for it to be developed properly in a standard movie's timeframe.
Nope, if you think the movie was good and had anything to do with the Payne (Yes, it's Payne god damn it, it's his name.) it just means you haven't actually played the fucking game.
it is different from the game, so what? I suppose most people liked the jason bourne trilogy, right? guess what! I read the books and they talked about different issues too! great books no doubt, and great movies too, although they present different stories in many aspects... so what the heck?
it was like the movie and game were totally unassociated at all there was no reference to painkillers nothing to do with anything at all related to the game
They killed cybil(first game), they killed the half-retarded girl (who gets ripped apart by Pyramid-head) from the 2nd game, they traded Harry for Heather(from the third game) as the main character. They butched so many parts of the SH story to make it a film people would actually watch (I mean they traded Harry, the HERO! for some chick with big ol' titties -- the age old sign of a horrible movie)
Silent Hill is the scariest and most unique horror game to date. The original Silent Hill, where they adopted most of the movies story (aside from the main character who more so resembles SH 3) had hell world understood as a fictional world made real by the intense emotions of a girl, typically entering puberty, in which her mere thoughts could create reality. The movie turned it into the thought of injustice and pain creating a path for the girl to follow to unravel the truths of SH. Trash.
@rubbaduckgurl27 I agree with you... but I think it sucks big time when they make a movie on a video game and choose to change the entire story. Change out a few named things in the resident evil movie, and nobody would be able to relate that movie in anyway to the games... However Max Payne follows the storyline pretty nicely
Silent Hill wasn't scary & as true as it was to the game, it was confusing for non-fans.
It bored me after awhile. Hitman (2007) now was a good game adaptation! Had all the over-the-top violence, nudity & fun factors that made the game a hit.
Max Payne I would put up 2nd though simply because Mark Wahlberg is good in anything even if it sucks, the cinematography was gorgeous, the S.W.A.T. team shootout was cool & it was just a decent Crime-Mystery overall.
Eh I wouldn't go as far to say Silent Hill was terrible, it was alright. Gamers are just way too picky...Hitman was decent too. As one of the orginal diehard Max Payne fans since its release in 2001 my two cents. Suffice to say the movie was terrible- script was bad, cast was questionable at best and the whole movie didn't even make sense, the director and writer should be castrated for turning Sam Lake's masterpiece into this piece of hollywood shit. Its harsh but they really screwed it up.
because it always uses the same blue bag, where I see these bags on interviews using old-fashioned, the type is a charming actor is excellent, but the bag is old and XD.
@MultiValium : If you had played the games, you'd realize how much SH movie fucked up.
Seeing Pyramid Head appear was kind of nice and cool, but it SHOULDN'T HAVE EXISTED, as it's sort of James' manifestation of guilt/ will to be punished. Well, something along these lines. And I think Dahlia was a bitch, unlike in the movie.
No one ever maintains the original story, they change major plot developments and characters, overall, SH was a much better game / movie transition than Max Payne. MP however, has the potential to be an absolutely epic movie, if they had stuck to the original script, characters, and most importantly narration. ... Thing is, they didn't.
well there is one thing i didnt like. the first max payne game... the shity smile on his face. he looked like johnny knoxville. thats the only thing i didnt like about the first game. just smiling even after his wife and kid are killed. that was what i didnt like. but everything else was kool.
It's hard to cast actors for parts with a visual element, Wahlberg looks like the character and is a pretty good actor. Mel Gibson doesn't really look like the character and is getting a bit old for it
Mark Wahlberg you stupid idiot! If you had done what any respectable actor would have done to study his role, played the game, you lazy worthless C*, you would have figured there was something very wrong with the crappy movie you were making! First thing: CANNOT be pg18!
F* shitty hoolywood morons!
"Pacman"? "Miss Pacman"? "Super Mario"? You bl***y idiot!
You know something hewed... his comment was not very eloquent, but your comment was pathetic. All for censoring? What are you... Muslim? Ever hear of free speech moron?
What are you? A COMPLETE IDIOT? My comment was not about the movie, OR the game, it was about YOUR MORONIC comment...your pathetic attempt to censor somebody else's views because they don't coinside with yours. Man, what an idiot!
i love him mark its a good actor he its very talented for thgat reason i wath all his movies and he its hot because i love him too hot¡¡¡hot¡¡¡hot he reminds me a litle bit to heath ledger has some similarities but he its unic and handsome.
You could play the video game on a movie theatre auditorium screen and call it the MAX PAYNE movie because the story in the game was amazing. The movie butchered it and turned it into shit.
Agree. The movie looks like a spin-off to the game. IMO JOhn Moore use game's script and name to make his own action movie.
This movie lacks of many things. Where is the italian and russian mafia? Where is the crime? Where are the painkillers? Where is the narration? And god what happened to the slo-mo sequences? There are only 2 scenes with slo-mo.
And also, Max's not using double beretta in the movie or not even Desert Aagle.
actually i am im studying directing and producing in college and i am also a big max payne fan and i watched the movie and playe the ga multiple times and i think i know what im talking about
well i am pretty smart and i am pretty serious about what i do, and i do hate when people talk smack about movies even though they have no ideawhat it takes to make one
"well i am pretty smart"-and that is what I was talking about.
So what you're saying is, we should rate movies higher, respect them more, even those very bad ones, just because making a movie is not an easy thing?
It's not about how hard movies are to create,if someone wants to make a great movie (and in this care, a video game-based movie),he has to work his ass off. This is "normal",all "big" stuff need a lot of work, not only movies.
And this movie is a bad Max Payne movie. End of the story!
no thats not really what i was sayin its true there are alot of crappy movie but there are alot of good movies people bag on because of one litte thing thats missing or that they didnt like ,so they go
and destroy a perfectly good movie with their opinions, but it doesent matter people liked max payne enough for them to make another sequel.
people just want to watch great movies! What kind of a problem is that?
I wanted to see a Max Payne movie, and I've got some simple crime flick, with few characters and some connections to the game.
Of corse they have enough money to make a sequel, because most of those people who are saying this movie is great, they don't even know this was supposed to be based on a game.
If this movie wasn't called Max Payne, and had different names of the characters, etc. I'd like it very much!
alot of gamers i know including myself liked it, sure it wasnt completely based on the game even though that would be almost impossible to do, yet i feel like this movie captured some of the key aspects of the game that other movies based on other games couldnt and thats why i exept this movie. now if we were talking about a movie like doom id be on the same page as you because that movie was a disaster
Some of the key aspects?Oh yeah right, the names, the drug (where in the game the drug wasn't actually the key "aspect") some locations (which were pretty nicely done, but not many of them),and that the main character's wife and baby were killer by mobs.Big deal.
There are only 2 slo-mo action scenes, and if I haven't played the game before,I wouldn't know much about Max Payne. The movie doesn't make me feel sad about him.
i didnt sy they were my friends some of them yeh, oh and the key aspects that i was talking about were, the plot(his wife and kid die) and him hunting down the killer thats probably the most important key aspect of all, valkyre drug(another key aspect,it really doesnt matter if it green or blue) the russian mafia was there briefly..yes oh and i counted at least 5 bullet time scenes(which is also a key aspect) some were harder to notice then the others.
i loved max payne thru n thru....both the game n the movie specially his hallucinations with the demons......can we some more of max payne n his demons
If we talk about emotional side, which is main structure in Max Payne game, then this film gives me nothing, I can't feel anything, I can't understood a reason, why Max Payne has became different! Yes, it was mention directly, but it wasn't mention in emotional side! Too weary and boring to show only memories about that, how it was happened! Oh, sorry if someone don't like that, what I'm saying, but yes, I was very very disappointing!
Mark Whalberg killed the character of Max Payne. He wasnt the best actor for this character, but i think it was his denial of actually playing the games that brought his acting to almost nothing- shows his level of character dedication and study- bad excuse. Also, he has kept the same acting style throughout all of his movies, The Yards, Four Brothers, etc.
hey during the movie the they interviewed the bald seargent guy and he said he felt like he had wings and I said to a frend that it wasn't valkyrie instead all it was was just red bull
I still dont understand. Ok so I've played through Max payne 1-2 and i've seen the movie... but what the FUCK are those angels in Max payne *movie*? Why they randomly killed those guys etc...
Yeah.. I thought so too but like when mona sax's sister was ripped up the cops said it couldn't have been done by any blade... (and talon just flashed into my mind) and when the one V dealer got friggen chucked 50 feet from the window I don't think a normal guy could just go out and throw himself from 0 inertia about 50 feet... gahhh
the guy who fell out the window i can believe he was jus tripping. but i forgot about mona sax's sister wtf was that about!? who knows man... but i do know that shes fuking hot
trippin... on V?!?!??!?! well yeah I think mona sax's sister was friggen saxy! And hm... actually yeah now that I think about it I'm pretty sure now the angels are just from V... In the game when Max gets injected with V he sees hell and all those flashbacks
lol i can understand wher u cuming frm same here iav played the both parts but i loved the 1st one.same thing hapend to me when i saw the movie i was like wat da FUCK who da fuck r they angles r coz they wernt in the game, but then i got it actuly ther wer no angles and they didnt kill those guys that was juz the Valkerie Drug's side effects, actuly the bold guy who had a big knife in his hand he killed Natasha lol, the angles were juz imagenations, dats actuly wat hapens wid Drug's side effects,
This interview was done at the site where Top Gear is shot. I was in the studio on Wednesday for the Top Gear recording and mark was wearing the same top. He was the star in the reasonably priced car. The episode will be aired this sunday..
memorable one liners, although i was disapointed with the varying quality of the action scenes and lack or retakes. Theres more than one take where you visibly see them fuck up but they put it in anyways (the scene where payne puts the gun to the junkys head comes to mind)
The movie cuts from incredible action scene to what almost looks homemade then back again in a 15 second span. (the battle against the swat team in the lobby)
"I was looking forward to doing something in the action world"

I can't help it when Mark Wahlberg interrupted the man's question, but got distracted by it...

You could play the video game on a movie theatre auditorium screen and call it the MAX PAYNE movie because the story in the game was amazing. The movie butchered it and turned it into shit.
cousinedd 3 years ago
I just watched the film and i think it's a piece of shit, the game was way better!
xgray666 3 years ago 2
Max Payne film had a great potential ,but it was very badly compiled. Not enough action scenes,2 short, most characters where for like 1 scene :S
rafalkoziarz 3 years ago 4
guess your right. the film didnt portray most of what the game had huh?
buddbasset 3 years ago
I like Mark Wahlberg, but in this movie he was not so good!
spontanuss 3 years ago
He would have been better if the script was actually about the game.
cousinedd 3 years ago
RealPublic 3 years ago
its like you never watched the movie or even know what it takes to make a movie
vixvis 3 years ago
Do YOU know what it takes to make a movie? Are you a director? Or at least musicina?
I don't think so.
Yes I'e watched the movie, and I didn't like it much.
I would never comment and criticise a movie, which I haven't seen before.
RealPublic 3 years ago
actually i am im studying directing and producing in college and i am also a big max payne fan and i watched the movie and playe the ga multiple times and i think i know what im talking about
vixvis 3 years ago
Then you will be a bad director :P

says a stupid little kid that doesnt know shit bout movies
vixvis 3 years ago
Says a moron who probably thinks about himself as a genius, and takes stuff too seriously.
RealPublic 3 years ago
well i am pretty smart and i am pretty serious about what i do, and i do hate when people talk smack about movies even though they have no ideawhat it takes to make one
vixvis 3 years ago
"well i am pretty smart"-and that is what I was talking about.
So what you're saying is, we should rate movies higher, respect them more, even those very bad ones, just because making a movie is not an easy thing?
It's not about how hard movies are to create,if someone wants to make a great movie (and in this care, a video game-based movie),he has to work his ass off. This is "normal",all "big" stuff need a lot of work, not only movies.
And this movie is a bad Max Payne movie. End of the story!
RealPublic 3 years ago
no thats not really what i was sayin its true there are alot of crappy movie but there are alot of good movies people bag on because of one litte thing thats missing or that they didnt like ,so they go
and destroy a perfectly good movie with their opinions, but it doesent matter people liked max payne enough for them to make another sequel.
vixvis 3 years ago
people just want to watch great movies!
RealPublic 3 years ago
alot of gamers i know including myself liked it, sure it wasnt completely based on the game even though that would be almost impossible to do, yet i feel like this movie captured some of the key aspects of the game that other movies based on other games couldnt and thats why i exept this movie. now if we were talking about a movie like doom id be on the same page as you because that movie was a disaster
vixvis 3 years ago
Maybe you and your friends have low standards?
Some of the key aspects?Oh yeah right, the names, the drug (where in the game the drug wasn't actually the key "aspect") some locations (which were pretty nicely done, but not many of them),and that the main character's wife and baby were killer by mobs.Big deal.
There are only 2 slo-mo action scenes, and if I haven't played the game before,I wouldn't know much about Max Payne. The movie doesn't make me feel sad about him.
RealPublic 3 years ago
i didnt sy they were my friends some of them yeh, oh and the key aspects that i was talking about were, the plot(his wife and kid die) and him hunting down the killer thats probably the most important key aspect of all, valkyre drug(another key aspect,it really doesnt matter if it green or blue) the russian mafia was there briefly..yes oh and i counted at least 5 bullet time scenes(which is also a key aspect) some were harder to notice then the others.
vixvis 3 years ago
i loved max payne thru n thru....both the game n the movie specially his hallucinations with the demons......can we some more of max payne n his demons
anubhavsaxena10 2 years ago
He was good actually, but the script didn't give him much of a chance for acting.
RealPublic 3 years ago
If we talk about emotional side, which is main structure in Max Payne game, then this film gives me nothing, I can't feel anything, I can't understood a reason, why Max Payne has became different! Yes, it was mention directly, but it wasn't mention in emotional side! Too weary and boring to show only memories about that, how it was happened! Oh, sorry if someone don't like that, what I'm saying, but yes, I was very very disappointing!
spontanuss 3 years ago 3
I think Clive Owen is better for Max Payne role! And story line was average in this film, 'cause I was waiting for something
better! But it was just a underdone spec effect movie! And where was one of the important characters!? I talk about Vlad!
spontanuss 3 years ago
Mark Whalberg killed the character of Max Payne. He wasnt the best actor for this character, but i think it was his denial of actually playing the games that brought his acting to almost nothing- shows his level of character dedication and study- bad excuse. Also, he has kept the same acting style throughout all of his movies, The Yards, Four Brothers, etc.

hey during the movie the they interviewed the bald seargent guy and he said he felt like he had wings and I said to a frend that it wasn't valkyrie instead all it was was just red bull

Yeah.. I thought so too but like when mona sax's sister was ripped up the cops said it couldn't have been done by any blade... (and talon just flashed into my mind) and when the one V dealer got friggen chucked 50 feet from the window I don't think a normal guy could just go out and throw himself from 0 inertia about 50 feet... gahhh
NonDairyYogurt 3 years ago
the guy who fell out the window i can believe he was jus tripping. but i forgot about mona sax's sister wtf was that about!? who knows man... but i do know that shes fuking hot
HeavyMetalVagabond 3 years ago
trippin... on V?!?!??!?! well yeah I think mona sax's sister was friggen saxy! And hm... actually yeah now that I think about it I'm pretty sure now the angels are just from V... In the game when Max gets injected with V he sees hell and all those flashbacks
NonDairyYogurt 3 years ago
oh no wait... mona sax's sister died cos of that nuts guy who was waiting on the roof who had that fat knife
HeavyMetalVagabond 3 years ago

This interview was done at the site where Top Gear is shot. I was in the studio on Wednesday for the Top Gear recording and mark was wearing the same top. He was the star in the reasonably priced car. The episode will be aired this sunday..
stubones 3 years ago
memorable one liners, although i was disapointed with the varying quality of the action scenes and lack or retakes. Theres more than one take where you visibly see them fuck up but they put it in anyways (the scene where payne puts the gun to the junkys head comes to mind)
The movie cuts from incredible action scene to what almost looks homemade then back again in a 15 second span. (the battle against the swat team in the lobby)
FOXcorpislame 3 years ago
What a great movie.. the parts that sucked had nothing to do with his playing of the max payne role.
what a bad ass character
