No. The the NES add-on CD rom drive was called playstation. but due to legal issues sony started working independently on the new system but still code named it playstation
To those complaining about them leaving out seemingly important stuff, if they were to include EVERYTHING that every gamer thought was important, they wouldn't be able to finish it in 4 or 5 parts like they did. It would probably be MUCH longer.
What they're doing is a VERY brief overview of some important parts of video game history for a demographic that probably doesn't have our encyclopedic knowledge of video games.
One could probably do a 2-hour long documentary on Final Fantasy ALONE.
To all you extremely smart people saying "WHERES SUCH AND SUCH :'(" There are far to many games to go through in 1 episode there only using examples >.>
i cant believe that they didnt even glance at possibly the MOST IMPORTANT GAME OF ALL TIME! Super Mario 64!!! THE FIRST 3D PLATFORMER EVER!!! wow, there's Discovery documenteries for you
Wow they took there time and did a good job for the first chapter of this documentary. Now it seems like a rush to get it over with? So many things were missed.
Yeah true, this was getting even better but with this GTA thing its getting less entertaining i think that MGS or FFVII whould be more talked about than GTA (I like it dont get me worng) because those games really made you a full perspective of what a real story and masterpiece a game can be, and that that story can beat any movie now a days out there!
Please tell me Guybrush Threepwood, Le Chuck, Maniac Mansion, Zak, Indiana Jones GAs, Edward Carnby, DukeN and others, were not just characters of a dream I had, and that indeed during the 90s there was a game industry dominated by some of these characters.
It totally falls apart here. They jump forward in huge steps, leaving out 10 years of COMPUTER GAME history. It's unbelievable, really. Also: GTA 3 gets too much credit for stuff other games, COMPUTER GAMES, did before it came out.
And after Larry they seemed to forget about the PC. What about thesteady stream of classic RPGs on the PC, and how Baldur's Gate changed the genre completely?
@1DigitalFlow Obviously, you know little about video games. The Neo Geo console was the first home console that brought the actual arcade experience home. Every system before that mainly had third-party developers making ports of popular arcade games for their system. And most arcade ports tended to be half-assed and lost a lot of content in the translation.
And the Saturn was released before the Playstation, which is why it deserves to be mentioned. Also, in some ways it was superior to PS1
I miss other important milestones as well. Think about Wolfenstein 3D, Command & Conquer, the coming and going of the Dreamcast...They skipped maybe the most important period in gaming history!
the most sony biased doc eva!!!actual awful coverage of the 90's battle between sega sony and nintendo.....this batle pushed the industry forward from all angles.....yest they merntion none of it.poor poor doc
WTF? They didn't say anything about Goldeneye, The Lengend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, (or anything about the Nintendo 64 for that matter) or Metal Gear Solid. They have skimped over so many important milestones in gaming history that it isn't even funny.
I also find it ridiculous how they're crediting GTA III for Hollywood-like cinematic presentation, a trend that was in fact popularized by MGS, which did it before and did it better.

why do they need to rush so much?
"heres a playstation. it was popular, sold loads of units. seen it, good. move on...."
and they miss an ungodly amount of stuff out. where was the saturn? its like the playstation was the first cd based games system. very dissapointing.

No real mention of the Gameboy.
No real mention of the Super Nintendo.
No mention of SNK and the NEO GEO console.
No mention of Street Fighter 2.
No mention of Doom and Mortal Kombat and how they started the rating system.
No mention of the technological advancements of 3D games like Virtua Fighter or Virtua Racing.
No mention of the Sega Saturn.
Wow! Those are some key releases and events being left out. But instead they jump from the Genesis to the Playstation?
StudioGuyMN 3 years ago 18
They didn't even mention the Dreamcast.

gameboy is worth some mention.
Supernintento, no so much.
