Modest is all which does not provocate unwished sexual desire. Modest clothing allowes to perceive person as person, and does not disturb this perception in highly possible way. I think banning the Niqab and Burkha is not right - that just singles out one group of people.
Instead, a more positive requirement that everyone in public places should be identifiable is more sensible.
Try walking into a shop or a bank with a balaclava on (the male version of the Niqab), and see what happens ...
It's right that everyone should be identifiable - or else it would be a serious problem for law enforcement and justice.

Modest is all which does not provocate unwished sexual desire. Modest clothing allowes to perceive person as person, and does not disturb this perception in highly possible way. For muslim women it means she can even choose niqab, so that she is completely controlling that opposite person perceives only what she wants in way she wants. It is not her feelings, but her intentional information delivered to person she speaks to. It is complete and absolute freedonm she can enjoy.

Look at other cultures, they might cover their hair, do things with their hair and face, but you can still SEE their face. @janaveronikazahra its not that the women of the west feel its better to unveil, its the oppression that is being forced on these women, its fine for you because you live in the west where you are free to make the decision for yourself. these women who are oppressed don't have this luxury that you and i have to be able to even talk about it, because Islam do not allow them to.( their husbands). this is happening on a daily basis. and please don't reply and say this does not happen.

you are not right, i can not wear my hijab always as it is not allowed at my work and it is not accepted by my society. Therefore I risk unacceptance, bad words from people around. When kids asking mom in streets why this woman is covered they are so scared to say she is muslim, they prefer to say nothing or she is nun. I know they often say to them very bad words about me to prevent sinking of kid. This is on daily basis.

basicallky i see very little freedom for woman in Europe, except of right (or better must?) to work. There is then only must - specially dictade of fashion, basically I see here big dictate of men, they prefer only give freedom to woman when it comes to sexuall expression.

@janaveronikazahra you ability to sit at computer and have this debate with me should speak wonders about your freedom, something muslim woman in the Tehran can't do. the fact that you don't get beaten & thrown in jail for having a different opinion to your western government speaks wonders for your freedom. your hatred for the west is very apparent, but it is to sit there and bag your new found freedom when in your own country you could not even voice your opinion wit out fear of retribution.

I am glad that this discussion finish, just I want to say - I dont see the reason why niqab is banned in west, it will not help woman to get free in other part of world. And you are not right, the woman in islamic country can not easily sit with computer becasue she does not have any. The one she can afford can equally sit behind computer and discuss.

@janaveronikazahra how do you figure that!!!, im not saying the west has it right about everything. but can a women be a politician in Afgan or Iran or Iraq. can a women be the ceo of a multinational corporation in these countries, can a women own here own land with out a man, can a women have a full time job or be allowed to vote in these countries when you can answer yes to all of these question then you can compare Islam to the west. why, why, why. you are so biased you don't even see it.

yers, yes and yes - in muslim countries woman have important political and economic positions. You must take into mind that Iraq is still in war as well as afganistan. So it goes hand by hand with economic development. There is many examples when muslim women have important positions. Dont see everythinkg black and white. And also take into mind that priority of majority of muslim women is family and then working. But if they work, I do not see such big oppression as it is in west.

@janaveronikazahra have you every studied another religion, i have studied Islam for 2yrs as part of a justice course. it is a very beautiful religion. but the religion you speak of is not the one that i read about. you have manipulated and twisted it to suit your needs, you are no better then the Catholic's or the Christain's or even judaism you are so full of hate i feel sorry for you.
