The negative comments about LEGO Friends clearly come from people who haven't parented a girly girl. Yes, some girls (very few compared to boys) play a lot with traditional LEGO sets, but a lot of girls love pink, clothes and beauty salons - regardless what we parents do to get them interested in tree climbing and sword fighting. The LEGO Friends theme is for girly girls - just like Ninjago or Cars are for boys. There is nothing wrong in that.

For goodness' sake, nowhere has Lego said that this new line is "Legos for girls and the only things girls can play with." Girls have always played with Legos and everyone knows that. It's just an OPTION - a different theme for children who might have different color and storyline preferences. NO ONE IS SAYING THAT GIRLS SHOULDN'T PLAY WITH THE PIRATES/STAR WARS/HARRY POTTER SETS. Everyone griping about this being sexist needs to take a giant, potent chill pill.

Lego friends are like a bridge between Barbie and Polly Pocket. I like the original Lego with bricks, which I played with my nephew and when I was younger I played the original Lego (for boys).

Now that I actually own some sets (I am a 15 year old male, by the way), this are not like Belville. In fact, after reading some reviews, some of these sets are better then the current City sets. I restate my previous comments, these are that bad. I don't care for the mini-dolls, but I will keep some of their hair pieces. All these sets are minifig-scale and the mini-dolls' hair is capitable with minifigs. I honestly hope this works out for LEGO. Continued in next post...

There are so many dislikes because Lego has really misjudged girls with this. Girls don't want dumbed down Barbie Legos, they want regular Legos with girl minifigs. Lego gave into the idea of perpetuating stereotypes. And they are deleting any comments that try to explain why we dislike.

Has anyone even noticed, that we dont have LEGO figures with many joints anymore (Belville, Scala and Technic figures). Hero Factory does not count, because they are brick built figures.

This is a bad move for lego I think. Yes, this will appeal to a bigger audience, meaning that girls will be more interested in buying Legos, but the characters are getting too close to Mega Bloks figures. The idea I'm fine with, its just the similarity, when we all know that Mega Bloks copied Lego, this is kinda' backwards, it's almost like Lego is copying Mega Bloks. Just my opinion, throwing it out there.

These new lego friends sets have a lot of pink/purple/cyan/beige pieces.

Wow, a lot of hate. I don't see what the big problem is. So a bunch of LEGO fans are guys, but girls are important and LEGO would like to introduce the new theme so that families can become closer and that it's okay to be a girl and like LEGO. It is a toy that does not discriminate, so why do the people? Sure, people are getting the sets not for LEGO's intentions, but really? I don't think it's bad, certainly not great, but well more deserving than over 100 dislikes and only 20 likes. Wow.

So many dislikes. It baffles me. I'm thinking LEGO's 12 year old fanbase saw this and went into an angry rage. "LEGO for girls?! Impossible!"

However, I have read the Business Weekly article related to this new theme and from my understanding, this theme is the gateway for girls into LEGO bricks. We'll see if LEGO does get more girl customers.

And if you look past the girly element, LEGO could be incorporating some of this into LEGO City. I understand we have Cafe Corner....
