So let me get this straight. Dr. King (republican), Marcus Garvey, Thurgood Marshall, Rosa Parks, Madam CJ Walker, Harriet Tubman, Malcolm X, Jackie Robinson, Bessie Coleman, Medgar Evers, W.E.B Du Bois and Nina Simone are all niggas?
"he's doing really good in his life but he ain't really feeling no pain...!" What the f- i don't even....
How does a black kid handling himself not feel pain? So if I handle oppression better than you, then I'm not dealing with anything? That was stupid.
I hate that about ghetto people - they sound like stereotypical white people in the sense that they see themselves as central and universal and anyone that isn't doing what they're doing is somehow off, or wrong.
@0pine0tron6000 Also, i repeat....STEREOTYPICAL white people. not ALL white people. And GHETTO people - not even necessarily black people...people who came up in the hood.
@chillbrotha01 because misery loves company.lol some ppl have just made the mental choice not to change and so they can't. I am still struggling with it myself. sometimes it comes out because of slackness and habbit. It takes mental practice and effort. to change what u have perceived to be nattural and indeed have become natural. It's like going celibate. I am glad you have ascended...It helps testify that it can be done. but...it is a choice.
@soulestial yessir. ascension is more than mental its spiritual! we let our culture get in the way of the bigger picture of what it needs to be about. its not about niggas. its about helping your fellow man become the best human he can be. i love KRS-ONE and he drops KNOWLEDGE......but I disagree with him 100% on this one.

this guy is a fucking idiot, you all have been mindfucked by rap music into using a term used to slander your people for 450+years. you think changing the spelling makes it a term of endearment? dont be fucking silly people
inittowinit3 how does he GLORIFY the pain of the Ghetto here? I hear him speaking of how Ghetto Angst unifies those who choose to hover in that pain, and why they would use the word Nigger as a tag for those they identify with. And the "pain of the ghetto" is not what's wrong with the black community, in my opinon, it is the product of oppression.
All Im saying is that we embrace the noun, not the name Nigger because when used in a sentence your saying look how far we have come, dont forget, this is what unites us. would you tell the victim of a rapist to not use the term raped to describe her condition, to ease the conscience of her attacker. She will always be raped in spite of overcoming through strength and perseverance, we will always be niggas, just the same. who should live with the shame of the act the rapist or the raped
If you close your eyes and mentally project the word nigga what do you see. If I were white, I would fell the shame of my ancestry, the attemp and failure to break a people, the shame of 400 years. If I were white the guilt of the history that is told by that simple world nigger, would make my stomach turn, and I would question the validity of my accomplishment, think of that in its context, a NIGGER is in the White House, and understand why the white man wants to forget the word, never 4get
Nigger is the sum total of black history, never before has a noun sumed up the profoundity of time. As a black person, why should we be shamed by the word nigger, for us it embodies our greatest accomplishments, and people, niggers are the only people on the face of the North American Cont. who overcame the shackles and chains of oppression for themselves on the very same land were they were once considered chattle.
he is condescing when talking about blacks going to college and what not like it was a negative thing and he is glorifying that pain of the ghetto which is all the things that are wrong with the black community. Like chris rock said we got black ppl vs niggas.. and niggas have got to go.
Nigga is just the non-rhotic pronunciation of the word Nigger, so they are the same. There is really no difference, we blacks have just come to own it. I don't use it, tho.
I love krs one and his music and his hip hop culture teachings etc. But i hate the N word! we as black people know what the hell happened over so many years and it wont be forgotten. i just have to look at the colour of a person's skin to know the history/ pain we went through years ago. So if i go college it means i dont feel pain??? come on krs thats ridiculous. so are black people not supposed to get educated so they can be called a N****? i still love your music though lol
this is such bull shit. 90% of the black people alive today havent lived threw oppression let alone racism. just tell every one the truth...you only use NIGGA in your raps cuz your to lazy to fined another word to fit its place.
We as black people should NEVER use the damn word.So what KRS ONE is saying.. it's ok to use the word only to a certain extinct..I THINK IT'S TOTAL BULLSHIT.Just because he's famous doesnt mean that he's right about everything.DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE PEOPLE!!WAKE UR ASSES UP AND JUST STOP USING THE WORD..especially if you think that its not right for white folks to use it..if you black and you dont like whites saying the word, dont u say it either.
I am a white woman and this is what nigger means (Little Obama (11 Year Old Boy Gives Speech On The "N" Word ) I really hope you support that kid because hes 100% correct.
i have to disagree with KRS ONE, his brother is in the Army, not feeling Pain, LOL, no one on planet EARTH HAS IT HARDER AND LIVES A HARDER LIFE THAN MY MEN AND WOMEN IN UNIFORM. anyone who has served knows how much easier the life of a civilian is compared to the military. fact is, many youtubers don't know about REAL military people so much, which has inspired me to start a series of videos of THE REAL MILITARY, and my experiences when i was serving, STAY TUNED, i will get videos up soon!
way to keep the oppression going KRS... don't ever let yourself feel equal, and you never will be. Remind yourself daily that the oppression won't and can't be stopped, and most importantly - people in the ghetto, stay there... There are better ways to remember the mistreatment. But hey if we all got along, you wouldn't sell any records
@potatothorn sigh another DUMB IDIOT YOUTUBER, even a 5yr old kid can tell the difference, but since youtubers are HISTORICALLY DUMB SPECIES, I WILL DUMB MYSELF DOWN JUST SO THAT YOU CAN UNDERSTANT WHAT I'M GOING TO WRITE
NIGGER= derogatory racist word.
NIGGA= respectful word to a warrior or someone from the hood WHO IS, Never Ignorant Getting Goals Accomplished, Hence Nigga the acronym,
please tell me you see the difference, if not go back to grade school and learn the alphabet.
@potatothorn did some research on you and found out who you are, a bleeding heart liberal from the west coast, who doesn't get the nature of the hood at all.
big difference in being nice on the outside and being evil on the inside, and real nature being diabolical and being a two faced hypocrite.
whereas someone from the hood is in your face, and keeps it real, and lets all their stuff out in the open but doesn't plot on anyone behind their back.
@kalai131 close, but not quite. I'm in the hood all the time and DEAD TIRED of being called "my nigga " by one guy and a Nigg** in anger by another. bathe in your ignorance, keep calling each other nigga, and see how far it gets you in society. Oh right, you think "staying in the hood is what keeps you real"
Na nigga na. Ya'll dont really know what pain is. Yo gran daddys do tho. But you? NA. And by the way what about my Hispanic homies? You dont think they got pain in America? So i dont think only you can say it. The word is out there now as a slang, so now its out there and up for grabs
brothas feel pain and oppression just like every other black person in the USA. Meanwhile, 'niggas' be oppressing themselves and their communities....all in the name of feeling better about themselves
@4RealandTruth NO YOU CAN'T because you ain't from the diaspera of people who were lynched Just because you were black. If you're white then you suffered PREJUDICE from your own goverment but not racism. Whites who are oppressed by other whites suffer prejudice, but blacks oppressed by whites suffer racism. Therefore you can't be my Nigger because culturally your pain is from a different experience although we all share the same reality.
@4RealandTruth Think about what you just said, and then go say "Sup my NIGGER" to anybody and see what your reaction will be. It doesn't matter what your current circumstances are you will never, as a white person in America, experience the kind of oppression that a Black person not only in America but around the world has experienced... So no, you can't say "Sup my NIGGER" and think that it's ok.. Just let it be..
so if me and you are the same age and both born in the ghetto and experienced similar things, you have experienced more oppression than me? u have the right to say a word and i dont? shutup. why dont u black people stop seeking sympothy and feeling sorry for yourself and accept the fact every black person who went through slavery is dead now therefore we have moved on.
@4RealandTruth You know what, it's clear that you're not trying to seek knowledge from this video, you just want to argue a "point". Because the fact that you responded the way that you did and the fact that you even asked that question in the first place lets me know that you don't understand oppression. So instead of going back in forth with you on something that you'll, obviously never, understand, I'll just pray that sometime in THIS life you receive understanding and get over it. Peace.
@4RealandTruth you really don't get it... Look, the reason you would likely get your ass kicked for trying to pull something like that is NOT the word you are using but the FACT that you are trying to PULL SOMETHING.
But i may not neccesarily be trying to pull something, i could have a tight bond with my black brothers and casually say "sup nigger" especially if i was used to be called that everyday by my black friends.
@4RealandTruth nigga dumbass don't purposely be ignorant, you dumb uneducated whiteboy, even a 5 yr old kid can tell the difference, but since you youtubers ARE DUMB AS A FUCKING BOX OF ROCKS, I WILL DUMB MYSELF DOWN SO THAT A DUMB IDIOT LIKE YOU CAN UNDERSTAND WHAT I'M ABOUT TO SAY.
NIGGER= derogatory racist word.
NIGGA= respectful word to a warrior or someone from the hood WHO IS, Never Ignorant Getting Goals Accomplished, Hence Nigga the acronym,
i think its evident who the dumb uneducated "nigger" is. first off you are clearly stupid you cant identify what im trying to say, are you telling me no white people have the same struggle as black people in the hood? stfu u piece of shit idiot. WOW U REALLY ARE DUMB. "NIGGA= respectful word to a warrior or someone from the hood WHO IS, Never Ignorant Getting Goals Accomplished, Hence Nigga the acronym" so that could be a white person therefore that WHITE PERSON can say nigger?
@4RealandTruth I'm a white guy and I call black people niggers to their faces all the time. It's the tone that matters. If you say it with love then they won't get upset.
@4RealandTruth You know, y'all think you're being funny with ya lit' smart-ass remarks ...I don't care what "ghetto" you live in, you will NEVER be able to relate like that ...When you are seeking a job, all that you have to worry about is being qualified, and the position being open ..Whereas, a brotha's complexion may cancel all of that out ...btw, my video titled "Sambos Defending White rapper V-Nasty" answers your lit' snab, rhetorical question
so it would be cool for me to go around to my aryan brothers and say whats up my aryan! aryan please! aryans be hating! the word nigga is fucking retarded, stop using it, if you knew its history, you wouldnt want to
I don't agree to what he said on the issues of Brothers going to college that’s not down with being oppress. Brothers that go to college and join the military are oppress every day. Life ant so grand for a Brotha because he is closer to the person that’s doing the oppressing It’s when he becomes like the oppressor is when he/she becomes diluted to their own people.
So pretty much to truly understand it you need to feel the pain of it. However, me being from the suburbs. I cant feel that pain. So I cant be down there with you if I havnt felt the same pain. So pretty much to use the word you need to be from the ghetto or some oppressed area. If your not your faking the funk because you never felt the pain. So I can be your Brotha but Nigga I cant be because of the pain.
Believe it or not I actually understand where he's coming from even though I personally think the whole bit about the modified N word is stupid because you don't know how others will interpret it.
At least where I'm from you rarely hear gay guys calling each other fags as an example, but that may only be because we've largely reclaimed the word "queer" and removed at least a good chunk of the derogatory connotation from it.
What KRS-ONE said is true but in turn I try to stay away from the N-word as well as reciting lyrics to a song i try not to say it or not listen to the song at all. The N-word is another way of saying brother or other such but i want to see a change with people not saying the word at all. I don't call people the C-word when i walk around because i would think that if i say that i wouldnt obligate them to say the N-word.
I'm a 19 year old black who hates the N-word wether with an a or with a er
@RottenPeachState706 BAHAHAHAHAHAHAFUCKING -HA! You're wrong. I know so many black people who WERE raised in black areas who DON'T talk like that. One of my best friends, actually, does live in a black area and the rest of his family is of course African-American, and they talk like that, but he says his mom was like "I don't know why he is the way he is." He despises hiphop and doesn't talk like a stereotypical black person. And he lives in a black area. You. Are. Wrong.
LoL. KRS... I was waiting to see how the hell he was gonna justify that word... Only KRS intellectualy laid it down. I still will strive not to use it, and even tho i always understood i couldnt explain it as he.
@Psa1mist9 its the reason why Latinos use the word nigga far more than, man, homie, dude, dogg, all Mexicans in Chicago use the word Nigga same with Puerto Ricans. blacks dont mind it at all, it is as common as saying whats up.
@TRIPLESIXSICCNESS All non-Whites use the word "Nigga.". Not just Latinos. Asians, Pacific Islanders, Native Americans and Middle Easterns all use the word.
this is a crackhead supreme that needs an education in Obama's respect.. Pain, I'm in pain, the pain of the white man, the pain oh the pain, the pain man,
Actually it just dawned on me that what KRS is saying would be very divisive within the black race. Saying that only people from the street feel pain and can be considered "niggas" is glamourizing a defeatist mindset that many youth have. The connotation given here encourages youth to be strong or tough within the confines of street life and never strive for more. KRS is from the streets and takes pride in that, but too much I think. Everyone feels pain, and no amount of money can change that.
Black people being able to say a word that nonblacks can not say is about POWER and identity. I disagree with 90% of what KRS says but he has made some absolutely classic songs. My favourites are Aww Yeah and Love's Gonna Getcha.
This is where we have to disagree. I saved the video but I got to disagree. I am the brotha and I feel more pain because I aspire to be more and do more with my life than I was given. My and the nigga was born in the same place, and I am him and he is me. But in this world controlled by the White man I still have to deal with the racism that comes from them and the pain of my niggas who don't want to try and amount to something. I feel more pain than the nigga please believe that.
Again i agree with you ..i agree that they should ALL be equally unacceptable. Yes there may be self hating jews but their level of self hate and disrespect is not as wide spread or as deep as our own. It is so deep that those who covet light skin, talk about good hair, and call each other the N word are still convinved they are OVER the past. I do not think that we differ that greatly in our thinking, the main difference is the use of that word - this could be because I am not from the US.
@Amorphustruth Every Black person using it is at least familiar with the negative connotation of the word. Understanding of the perjorative context actually informs the dual usage. The way that Black folk use it, but whites cannot without the risk of offending Black people is code for "Yeah...I said it...and I dare you to say it."
@Amorphustruth I agree with you that we are obviously of divergent opinions about this term. The positive thing is that my choice to embrace an alternative relationship to this word in stark contrast to your opinion does not truly cause disunity. I can still embrace you as my brother and agree where possible for common ground. I respect your opinion and can agree to disagree.
I completely agree will your comments about soul food , christianity, and the term 'black' and it is great to know others out there are thinking the same things i do. But can you not also see that that word is also an undesirable remnant of that slavery. It saddens me that we are the only race that seem to have embraced one of the tools used to domintate us. Again, i do not believe jewish people refer to themselves using derogatory nazi terms, so my question is still , why do we?
@Amorphustruth But that is my point...if one is unacceptable then ALL of it is, because the origin, intent and process is the same: We were given poison to subsist on and we made it into nectar...culturally, spiritually, linguistically, etc. Also, many, many jews take on the imagery and language of their oppression in order to defang it. This is why so many jewish people who do so get criticized as "self-hating jews.
Just because a white person, or any other race other than black raised in an urban area, doesnt justify the fact for them to use this term, but unfortunately its a term thats used alot within the youth these days.
If a random black person just came up to me & said ''what up my nigga'', id tell him to stop acting ignorant. You cant assume that every black person will be ok with other black people calling them ''nigga''.
KRS one is just as ignorant as the rest of the hip hop community. Black people comercialize this word, & its sad. To top it off, they expect us blacks to be ok with other races using this word. Fuck that. This is one of the reasons why i stopped listening to hip hop. They say that word alot, & all they ever talk about is sex, money & drugs. They make us black people look bad.
Bottom line it the brotha feels the pain both ways. The brotha got to deal with the shame from the niggas with his skin color, and he has to deal with the condescension of trying to make it in predominate White settings. The brotha got to deal with the pain of Whites who either don't want him their and Whites who don't get it or give a care. And just because the brotha went off to college or the military doesnot mean we got it good. Anyone disagree I say to them nigga please.
What the hell does he mean that the brotha ain't feeling no pain. The brotha is trying to get out of oppression and trying to stay out of jail harder than the nigga because the nigga according to his logic finds it easier to go to jail than to stay free. And the brotha has to deal with the White establishment the real oppressor because they are trying to make gains for themselves and trying to present a better image of the Black community, while the nigga is hell bound on being keep down.
if he is going to say that another black person has to be his N-word, that's entirely demeaning. That's putting someone under you. Can't say that just because someone hates an originally OFFENSIVE word and doesn't want to be called that that they think their superior and shit. If you wouldn't want to be called some racial slur, how the fuck does that make you any different from somone else in your race who's okay with it? It just means you don't want to be insulted. These words are meant to be.
This imbecile makes zero fucking sense. You cannot reclaim something that's meant to be offensive. Example; you don't see white people running around calling each other cracker and what have you. Why should it be okay for black people to call each other an offensive word. If your name is not the N word, no one should be calling you that. Term of endearment my ass! That would be something along the lines of "honey," "muffin," "cupcake." This man is a straight up imbecile. Plus...
This fucking ugly creature is talking shit .. i ahve never in my life heard jewish people refer to each other using a derogatory term used against them by another race..chinese, indians etc. don't either we are the only race stupid enough to do it walking round like fucking booboos , justifying why we use it. This fucking ugly man should be ashamed to air his 'ghetto 'opinions, i for one have to much respect for myself and my people to ever use the word.
The whole world of hiphop on tv I aint feeling it no more. It's all flashy and billboards and crazy fake stuff. It's ll about the image now. Image is everything. If you live up to the image you got status, then you can fuck a white girl. So it;s all fakery now. There's no love no sense of depth. It's all commercialized. Hiphop is dead.
@Amorphustruth "Twaddle", huh? Wow. That's your opinion, I guess. It isn't the words that matter so much as one's relationship to them, or in this case an entire segment of a community. Your obvious vitriol at what is essentially an attempt at healing pain caused by derogatory projection of a word is far more offensive to the word itself, because it dismisses even the possibility that a culture actually can indeed contextually redefine a word such as this.
@BRP1968 No i am sorry i will never be convinced that anybody is 'contextually redefining anything', this is yet another perpetuation of slave mentality no different to the obsession with good hair and light skin. How can healing begin when we are still insulting ourselves. My 'vitriol' as you put it is because i dare say when slaves were toiling in the fields under the lash i doubt they prayed to be free so that one day they could call each other nigger , instead of masser.
@Amorphustruth You being unconvinced doesn't mean it isn't happening. We will heal with contextual transformation of this one word just as we heal by embracing every other aspect of Black American culture which was forced upon us with detrimental intent: Soul food (garbage scraps), Christianity (via forced denial of traditional African spiritual practices to enforce a pre-Adamic perspective), the term "Black" ("dirty, sullen, evil, sinister")
@Amorphustruth I maintain that truly empowered people can redefine ANY word with common contextual recognition. I actually respect if you don't wish to use the word or identify with it in any way. That is perfectly cool, because it's your choice. I however do not choose to be held mentally captive by reflexive fear or hate of this word, because I DO have the power to contextually redefine it. You may choose to insult my intelligence because of it, which is also cool...because I'm self-aware.
@Amorphustruth I also encourage you to see the vid in the menu on the right "KRS speaks on the N word" as he breaks it down during a seminar. It should be up toward the top. You may not decide to view it, but I like how he poses his response to someone who criticized him much as you did about the "N word."
@Amorphustruth I would also ask that you take a look at some interesting work by a jewish artist named Judith Altman. Though her work doesn't involve words, it does deal with anti-jewish images and her attempt at redefining not the images themselves, but the individual's relationship to them...and by extension, the community's.
When one embraces the term which was used to harm thim/her and redefines it within another contextual framework which empowers and emboldens him/her, they are then able to own the term.
Once ownership of that contextual manifestation of the term is established, the original context of the term is still just as abhorrent, and even moreso when used in the original context by those belonging to the group who originally coined and owned the term within the original context.
Meanwhile, many Black folk are so petrified of the term and have infused such fear and loathing into the term that they take on an air of superiority when those steeped in the street culture express it in their own way.
I must question people who claim to be empowered when they lack the basic fortitude to defang a word to such an extent that they run from it and exhibit hostility toward those who have defanged it.
There is no way a collection of vowels and consanants emitted in vocal form to be recieved aurally has EVER done me harm...unless I gave it the power to do so. Essentially we are talking about words here...language. I can express anything I wish when I frame a word contextually, particularly when there is a receptive audience to the context I put forth.
Do I use the term "nigga" in everyday speech? No.
Am I offended by the term? This depends on the context.
Bottom line I'm trying to get across to everyone, niggas are a bunch of confused Black people. And it's sad that they allow the world to make a mockery off of our struggles and confusion. Paul Monie said it best, everyone want's to be a nigga but don't nobody wants to be a nigga. Nigga has a negative connotation to it because it derived from and is the word nigger. It's a hurtful and derogatory word. And believe it or not, most niggas really want to be niggas.
And for those of you who wounder why if it's ok for Blacks to say it but how come no one else, simple. Would you want us throwing the word arounds or call you something derogatory to your race like cracka, honky, White trash, goke, spick, etc (no offense to anyone). Just because it's used in hip-hop and other forms of Black entertainment doesnot make it right. Do ya'll do everything hip-hop talks about, carrying guns, shooting people, selling drugs, I think not.
@u2hubbard I agree with you! Not EVERY black person even listens to hip-hop or lives in the "ghetto" or eats meat or totes around guns shooting people and prolonging stereotypes. It's not okay for anyone to say it. It's an offensive word and that's all there fucking is to it.
Nigger did more good by Black people than nigga. If yo brotha went off to college or the military to better himself why can't you, nigga? Because you to busy being a nigga with other niggas staying down how the White man want you to be. Nigger made Black people fortified. Nigga confused some Black people, but because it's nigger undercover it has torn down the Black people more than nigger being overt. When will Black people learn. And yes my niggas I'm a Black man who feels the pain.
Real racism is when you pass laws saying that races can't marry.
Real racism is when you kill someone simply for being the wrong shade of skin.
Real racism is when you feel HATE in your HEART!
When two Hiphoppas say it to one another, do they feel HATE? Do they intend to dishonor our ancestors? Nah.
If someone is about peace, love, unity, and joy, then what's the big deal? If someone knows their history, then why are you mad if they want to identify with the struggle in their own way?
true, but those kind of niggas is few and far between. i mean, if yous is in tha street being a big white man, like i am, and all the se racist black people be always trying to keep you down, you would get mad too. sho nuff, shit. blacks have been more racist than whites for as long as i know, knaw what i mean man. knaw mean. shit bra, im just saying. and everytime i go to fuck my chocolate sista, i always get evil looks from black boys
Hey, I'm Latin American. I never say "nigga" cause i don't relate to it but many Latino's even say it (except for Chicano's who say "Ese").
There's guy at my job he's Colombian, but his ethnicity is very Native American. He speaks English with an accent but he says the word "Nigga" sometimes to sound cool.
Sometimes i just want to put him on blast for being a fucking idiot and having an identity crisis.
There's nothing more annoying than to see a person that is not black using the term ''nigga'' like its cool. That shit gets me upset. U dont see me tryna emulate a white guy, or a laitno guy. This new generation has an identity disorder for real....
@illnene83 There's no way to emulate a race. That generalizes millions of people who just aren't the same, even if they are the same race/skin color. You can't "act white" or "act black". I know white people who were just raised in mixed neighborhoodds and that's why they talk like they listen to hip-hop or "sound black." Black people who use this word get all upset when they see an educated black person who speaks correctly. Why should they be made to feel like they think they're superior? wtf
@officialfrizzo-if your white... why are you worried about the division he's creating with the word nigga? the statement was not directed at white americans yet your so passionate about what krs is trying to explain.
when a black person walks in a room full of white people..and some one says" whats up nigga" who do all the white people look @? The word is not a direct refrence?.... Any one who doesnt use the word and is not black is refered to be "acting black". Your comment is confusing
@getoffwelfare The thing is to remember that only a percentages of black people even like hip-hop and talk like that and use that word. It doesn't make sense to me why black people would call each other offensive terms when you don't see white people calling each other racial slurs about their race.
@Klayribel wtf im GUARANTEEING you more than 75% of ALL blacks in america talk like that and LOVE Hip Hop the ones who dont are usually the ones raised OUTSIDE of black areas
@getoffwelfare they say the n- word cause theirs hearts can't comprehend love,, yo if you were raised with lil kim in ya ears, my p**** hotter then yours, i can f*** better then you, and all the hate and disrespect and these crackxhead parents are parading around in front off their 2 year old rapping along no matter why ya'll crackheads can't respect.
some people understand it... some people don't... this is what Nikki Giovanni meant when she said "I rather be with the thugs running then with the people chasing them"--- props to you for posting this

How does a black kid handling himself not feel pain? So if I handle oppression better than you, then I'm not dealing with anything? That was stupid.
I hate that about ghetto people - they sound like stereotypical white people in the sense that they see themselves as central and universal and anyone that isn't doing what they're doing is somehow off, or wrong.

inittowinit3 how does he GLORIFY the pain of the Ghetto here? I hear him speaking of how Ghetto Angst unifies those who choose to hover in that pain, and why they would use the word Nigger as a tag for those they identify with. And the "pain of the ghetto" is not what's wrong with the black community, in my opinon, it is the product of oppression.
Veiwtifullmind 2 months ago
That was some "Nigganometry" right there. Big up to Can I Bus
Veiwtifullmind 2 months ago
All Im saying is that we embrace the noun, not the name Nigger because when used in a sentence your saying look how far we have come, dont forget, this is what unites us. would you tell the victim of a rapist to not use the term raped to describe her condition, to ease the conscience of her attacker. She will always be raped in spite of overcoming through strength and perseverance, we will always be niggas, just the same. who should live with the shame of the act the rapist or the raped
alkidathreat 2 months ago
If you close your eyes and mentally project the word nigga what do you see. If I were white, I would fell the shame of my ancestry, the attemp and failure to break a people, the shame of 400 years. If I were white the guilt of the history that is told by that simple world nigger, would make my stomach turn, and I would question the validity of my accomplishment, think of that in its context, a NIGGER is in the White House, and understand why the white man wants to forget the word, never 4get
alkidathreat 2 months ago

I love krs one and his music and his hip hop culture teachings etc. But i hate the N word! we as black people know what the hell happened over so many years and it wont be forgotten. i just have to look at the colour of a person's skin to know the history/ pain we went through years ago. So if i go college it means i dont feel pain??? come on krs thats ridiculous. so are black people not supposed to get educated so they can be called a N****? i still love your music though lol

way to keep the oppression going KRS... don't ever let yourself feel equal, and you never will be. But hey if we all got along, you wouldn't sell any records

@potatothorn did some research on you and found out who you are, a bleeding heart liberal from the west coast, who doesn't get the nature of the hood at all.
big difference in being nice on the outside and being evil on the inside, and real nature being diabolical and being a two faced hypocrite.

Just let it be..
mDcWhG 6 months ago
@mDcWhG
so if me and you are the same age and both born in the ghetto and experienced similar things, you have experienced more oppression than me? u have the right to say a word and i dont? shutup. why dont u black people stop seeking sympothy and feeling sorry for yourself and accept the fact every black person who went through slavery is dead now therefore we have moved on.

Peace.

Everyone feels pain, and no amount of money can change that.
porterhouse 1 year ago

But in this world controlled by the White man I still have to deal with the racism that comes from them and the pain of my niggas who don't want to try and amount to something. I feel more pain than the nigga please believe that.
u2hubbard 1 year ago
Again i agree with you ..i agree that they should ALL be equally unacceptable. Yes there may be self hating jews but their level of self hate and disrespect is not as wide spread or as deep as our own. It is so deep that those who covet light skin, talk about good hair, and call each other the N word are still convinved they are OVER the past. I do not think that we differ that greatly in our thinking, the main difference is the use of that word - this could be because I am not from the US.
Amorphustruth 1 year ago
@Amorphustruth Every Black person using it is at least familiar with the negative connotation of the word. Understanding of the perjorative context actually informs the dual usage. The way that Black folk use it, but whites cannot without the risk of offending Black people is code for "Yeah...I said it...and I dare you to say it."
BRP1968 1 year ago
@Amorphustruth I agree with you that we are obviously of divergent opinions about this term. The positive thing is that my choice to embrace an alternative relationship to this word in stark contrast to your opinion does not truly cause disunity. I can still embrace you as my brother and agree where possible for common ground. I respect your opinion and can agree to disagree.
BRP1968 1 year ago
I completely agree will your comments about soul food , christianity, and the term 'black' and it is great to know others out there are thinking the same things i do. But can you not also see that that word is also an undesirable remnant of that slavery. It saddens me that we are the only race that seem to have embraced one of the tools used to domintate us. Again, i do not believe jewish people refer to themselves using derogatory nazi terms, so my question is still , why do we?
Amorphustruth 1 year ago
@Amorphustruth But that is my point...if one is unacceptable then ALL of it is, because the origin, intent and process is the same: We were given poison to subsist on and we made it into nectar...culturally, spiritually, linguistically, etc. Also, many, many jews take on the imagery and language of their oppression in order to defang it. This is why so many jewish people who do so get criticized as "self-hating jews.
BRP1968 1 year ago
Just because a white person, or any other race other than black raised in an urban area, doesnt justify the fact for them to use this term, but unfortunately its a term thats used alot within the youth these days.

If a random black person just came up to me & said ''what up my nigga'', id tell him to stop acting ignorant. You cant assume that every black person will be ok with other black people calling them ''nigga''.
illnene83 1 year ago
KRS one is just as ignorant as the rest of the hip hop community. Black people comercialize this word, & its sad. To top it off, they expect us blacks to be ok with other races using this word. Fuck that. This is one of the reasons why i stopped listening to hip hop. They say that word alot, & all they ever talk about is sex, money & drugs. They make us black people look bad.
illnene83 1 year ago
Bottom line it the brotha feels the pain both ways. The brotha got to deal with the shame from the niggas with his skin color, and he has to deal with the condescension of trying to make it in predominate White settings. The brotha got to deal with the pain of Whites who either don't want him their and Whites who don't get it or give a care. And just because the brotha went off to college or the military doesnot mean we got it good. Anyone disagree I say to them nigga please.
u2hubbard 1 year ago
What the hell does he mean that the brotha ain't feeling no pain. The brotha is trying to get out of oppression and trying to stay out of jail harder than the nigga because the nigga according to his logic finds it easier to go to jail than to stay free. And the brotha has to deal with the White establishment the real oppressor because they are trying to make gains for themselves and trying to present a better image of the Black community, while the nigga is hell bound on being keep down.
u2hubbard 1 year ago
if he is going to say that another black person has to be his N-word, that's entirely demeaning.
Klayribel 1 year ago
This imbecile makes zero fucking sense. You cannot reclaim something that's meant to be offensive. Example; you don't see white people running around calling each other cracker and what have you. Why should it be okay for black people to call each other an offensive word. If your name is not the N word, no one should be calling you that. Term of endearment my ass! That would be something along the lines of "honey," "muffin," "cupcake." This man is a straight up imbecile. Plus...

@BRP1968 What a verbose load of twaddle
Amorphustruth 1 year ago
@Amorphustruth "Twaddle", huh? Wow. That's your opinion, I guess. It isn't the words that matter so much as one's relationship to them, or in this case an entire segment of a community. Your obvious vitriol at what is essentially an attempt at healing pain caused by derogatory projection of a word is far more offensive to the word itself, because it dismisses even the possibility that a culture actually can indeed contextually redefine a word such as this.
BRP1968 1 year ago
@BRP1968 No i am sorry i will never be convinced that anybody is 'contextually redefining anything', this is yet another perpetuation of slave mentality no different to the obsession with good hair and light skin. How can healing begin when we are still insulting ourselves. My 'vitriol' as you put it is because i dare say when slaves were toiling in the fields under the lash i doubt they prayed to be free so that one day they could call each other nigger , instead of masser.
Amorphustruth 1 year ago
@Amorphustruth You being unconvinced doesn't mean it isn't happening. We will heal with contextual transformation of this one word just as we heal by embracing every other aspect of Black American culture which was forced upon us with detrimental intent: Soul food (garbage scraps), Christianity (via forced denial of traditional African spiritual practices to enforce a pre-Adamic perspective), the term "Black" ("dirty, sullen, evil, sinister")
BRP1968 1 year ago
@Amorphustruth I maintain that truly empowered people can redefine ANY word with common contextual recognition. I actually respect if you don't wish to use the word or identify with it in any way. That is perfectly cool, because it's your choice. I however do not choose to be held mentally captive by reflexive fear or hate of this word, because I DO have the power to contextually redefine it. You may choose to insult my intelligence because of it, which is also cool...because I'm self-aware.
BRP1968 1 year ago
@Amorphustruth I also encourage you to see the vid in the menu on the right "KRS speaks on the N word" as he breaks it down during a seminar. It should be up toward the top. You may not decide to view it, but I like how he poses his response to someone who criticized him much as you did about the "N word."
BRP1968 1 year ago

BRP1968 1 year ago

Context is key.
BRP1968 1 year ago
@BRP1968 I remember George Carlin talking about something similar in relation to context. I guess I had to hear it from Kriss to believe it.

And believe it or not, most niggas really want to be niggas.
u2hubbard 2 years ago
And for those of you who wounder why if it's ok for Blacks to say it but how come no one else, simple. Would you want us throwing the word arounds or call you something derogatory to your race like cracka, honky, White trash, goke, spick, etc (no offense to anyone). Just because it's used in hip-hop and other forms of Black entertainment doesnot make it right. Do ya'll do everything hip-hop talks about, carrying guns, shooting people, selling drugs, I think not.
u2hubbard 2 years ago

And yes my niggas I'm a Black man who feels the pain.

what if dark Africans called eachother whitey?
What if they said
"Wassup my cracka-a s s cracka white trash mu-fukka?" (not to be mean...)
if someone called me a mu-fukka or whatever offensive word, but they treat me as an equal, and as a friend, and share with me, then it's all good.
CONTEXT IS EVERYTHING!
ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS!
That being said, I wouldn't be sad if we voluntarily didn't use those words at all, because it creates misunderstandings such as this.
Love!

KRS ONE, why do you hate black people so much???? (by the way, i'm being ironic)

It doesn't quite explain why blacks sometimes call white people "nigga". :-)
voidingindigo 2 years ago
Real racism is when you pass laws saying that races can't marry.
Real racism is when you kill someone simply for being the wrong shade of skin.
Real racism is when you feel HATE in your HEART!
When two Hiphoppas say it to one another, do they feel HATE? Do they intend to dishonor our ancestors? Nah.
If someone is about peace, love, unity, and joy, then what's the big deal? If someone knows their history, then why are you mad if they want to identify with the struggle in their own way?
ThinkTankEricD 2 years ago
true, but those kind of niggas is few and far between. i mean, if yous is in tha street being a big white man, like i am, and all the se racist black people be always trying to keep you down, you would get mad too. sho nuff, shit. blacks have been more racist than whites for as long as i know, knaw what i mean man. knaw mean. shit bra, im just saying. and everytime i go to fuck my chocolate sista, i always get evil looks from black boys
MrMagoob 1 year ago
@voidingindigo I once saw two white people on the street calling each other that....that doesn't even remotely make any goddamn sense.

This is the first time in my life Ive ever disagreed with the teacha,
That word is only used out of ignorance, who ever uses it.
Using that word is disrespectful to your ansestors, there is no justification for that word.
Peace.

There's nothing more annoying than to see a person that is not black using the term ''nigga'' like its cool. That shit gets me upset. U dont see me tryna emulate a white guy, or a laitno guy. This new generation has an identity disorder for real....
illnene83 2 years ago
just stop saying it period....nigga dont mean black.
getyoasshome 2 years ago
@illnene83 There's no way to emulate a race. That generalizes millions of people who just aren't the same, even if they are the same race/skin color. You can't "act white" or "act black". I know white people who were just raised in mixed neighborhoodds and that's why they talk like they listen to hip-hop or "sound black." Black people who use this word get all upset when they see an educated black person who speaks correctly. Why should they be made to feel like they think they're superior? wtf
Klayribel 1 year ago
@officialfrizzo-if your white... why are you worried about the division he's creating with the word nigga? the statement was not directed at white americans yet your so passionate about what krs is trying to explain.
lilrizq 2 years ago
@lilrizq Because the word no longer is in direct reference to only black people.
OfficialFrizzo 2 years ago
when a black person walks in a room full of white people..and some one says" whats up nigga" who do all the white people look @? The word is not a direct refrence?.... Any one who doesnt use the word and is not black is refered to be "acting black". Your comment is confusing
tiroanreigns 2 years ago
i never really understood why black people say nigga to each other until KRS-One explained it just now
im white
getoffwelfare 2 years ago 24
@getoffwelfare The thing is to remember that only a percentages of black people even like hip-hop and talk like that and use that word. It doesn't make sense to me why black people would call each other offensive terms when you don't see white people calling each other racial slurs about their race.
Klayribel 1 year ago
@Klayribel wtf im GUARANTEEING you more than 75% of ALL blacks in america talk like that and LOVE Hip Hop the ones who dont are usually the ones raised OUTSIDE of black areas
