Thanks for posting this. I saw the Damned July 1, at Stage One in Buffalo, 2, 3, at the El Mocambo in Toronto 1979. We went to see them in Detroit on the 4th of July at Bookies but got so wasted we couldn't find the place. Great memories getting drunk with Algy, Chris, Ray, Dave and Kenny (their manager). Note the El Mocambo shirt Chris is wearing. This is as good as the Cramps at Napa... Eh!

The Sex Pistols kind of assumed the "reign" of punk title but here are some guys that can not only actually play instruments and write a variety of music without constriction but prosper on for decades. Why the lack of recognition? They didn't sell out. Of course, who didn't fall prey to the '80's newfound MTV generation a little but...

I watched this after seeing a beautifully filmed clip of The Damned from the same time filmed in Germany where they looked lovely, but rather commercial. This clip captures real club atmosphere. I was living in Sf at that time. Most clubs had poor sound systems, and video was a new film format. He should be pleased he is so well documented.
