Hi my evo shift has been turning itself off multiple times a day while using it. Especially while texting. It strated doing this about a few days ago. Any idea why this is happening? What should I do? Any advice is helpful, thanks.
@gegc726x It's hard to say without examining it. It's possible that an app you've downloaded -- or a combination of apps -- is causing the phone to shut down. Delete apps that you don't really use and see if that helps. Is the battery making good contact? Turn the phone off, pop out the battery and make sure nothing interferes with the contacts. Take the phone to a Sprint store to have it checked.
@wirefly Okay thanks. I erased multiple apps and it still does it. I also noticed that it also happens while it's charging. I text a lot and also while charging the phone. Those are the only times it happens. Could that be why? And yes the battery is in. Could it be battery issues? If it continues to do this then yes I will get it checked out. Thanks for the advice..
@gegc726x It definitely could be a battery issue, and there could be a problem with your charger or with the USB connector where the charger plugs in. Try a different charger. If you know someone else with the same phone, see if you can borrow their battery for a few minutes. Might tell you something.
Oh god, do not get this phone. It is awfully put together. After a few months: The keyboard began to shift and is no longer stable, the headphone jack broke, and I'm seeing scratches on it despite the fact that I bought a 30$ Screen Protector and Case. I'm not even getting notices for things like text and calls anymore.
@3349100334 No, the HTC EVO Shift does not support a SIM card. It has no SIM slot. The newer HTC EVO Design does have a SIM slot, and it can be used internationally. However, it doesn't have a keyboard.
@3349100334 I don't know which one is better to *buy* but the EVO Shift is much better to *use*. The HTC Smart is not an Android phone, and it has a small display, low resolution and modest performance. The EVO Shift is a much-higher-performance device, and it has Android and 4G capability. It's much better to use.
i have this phone. do NOT get it. i absolutely hate this phone. it is terrible. it is very slow and the screen will not even turn on. ive had it for 2 months
@joshualugo58 No i even brought it to the store and they said the screen just blew out and i only have about 6 apps on the phone because i deleted the other ones because i thought the same thing as u
I have a question about this phone. I was reading reviews on this phone and the reviews were saying the htc evo shift had alot of problems with it. is this true?? Anyways, i am very interested in buying this phone.
@Shanatize dont get it... its good for about a month then has many problems for example, it always roams for no reason at all when other phones do not.. also, when texting, it randomly scrolls up the screen and forces you to stop texting...it sucks.
@ProudEaglesFan that definately makes me NOT want to get it and that just sounds terrible. I am probably going to get a different phone anyways. the samsung captivate glide and thanks for the honest info!
@Shanatize Yes it does. I own one and sometimes they can be a pain in the butt. I have had 3 of them already. I would recommend getting a different phone. I regret getting it.
@ohdamn2468 I don't think so. To my knowledge it doesn't have the latest version of HTC Sense. my shift doesn't have the apps from the lock screen feature. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong.
@originalgangsterloc well for start there is sooo much lag that it would make your heaadspin. second of all the camera is pooh and finally the keyboard always jams and the keys are too far apart....
@zachattack858 Their different operating systems makes them a little hard to compare. I'd say that the EVO Shift would be my choice for its 4G cabability.
@zoomfx707 The best sliding keyboard phone for Sprint is the Samsung Epic 4G. Probably the best sliding keyboard phone for any carrier is the myTouch 4G Slide for T-Mobile. On Verizon, I like the Samsung Stratosphere, which is an improved version of the Samsung Epic 4G.
I have this phone it is garbage. The screen randomly open apps, calls people, forwards texts, deletes texts. It has a ghoast in it. What do I do? how do I fix it? It is driving me crazy!
@MusicStudios18 I don't think anyone knows yet if the HTC EVO Shift will get Ice Cream Sandwich. (I hate that name... isn't there a number for it yet?) I would tend to think that newer dual-core phones are more likely to see upgrades first, such as the EVO 3D, Motorola Photon and Samsung Epic 4G Touch. No one knows for sure yet, though.
My family is with T-Mobile, and we might switch and I'm getting this phone. I would like to keep all of my contacts, though. Is there any way to keep all of them, because I know that Sprint doesn't use SIM cards... is there any way to switch all of my contacts without losing any of them besides well, writing them down?
@2055g sprint doesnt give you SIM cards but it does have the slot. so you can just put yours into there. Or, if I'm wrong, you can just use the bluetooth feature to transfer the contacts to your new phone. They will do that @ Sprint, they did it for mine. Hope I helped
@LoSkatesDaily The EVO Shift will definitely support live wallpaper. I don't know for sure about the notification light, and I no longer have an EVO Shift. Perhaps someone will come along to answer that question.
@th3batman561. To answer your question I'm selling my epic to get the shift my time with the epic has been very annoying lots of force closes, freeze ups, and it can get very slow at times. So I would go with the shift if I were you.
@latinkidd619 If you don't want to use Swype, just use the on-screen keyboard in the normal way. Or use the slide-out keyboard. In other words, just don't use Swype.
You could go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications and see if you can delete Swype. You might be able to do that.
Watching this review on my "original" Evo 4G. Still don't have a reason to upgrade (minus the battery). However, if/when Sprint gets the iPhone, I may be persuaded to get one. Maybe.
@3ofaKindGaming Yes, what I show in the video is a stock HTC EVO Shift 4G, with the version of Android that comes on the phone. Both HTC and Sprint have added features to the phone, and that's the way it comes out of the box.
How much will it cost me I think the phone is now 100 last time I checks how much is it with everythin unlimited ? I have 200 dollars an I'm payin 4 it?
How much will it cost me I think the phone is now 100 last time I checks how much is it with everythin unlimited ? I have 200 dollars an I'm payin 4 it?
@FLYspitterALLday It takes just a moment to go to Wirefly and check. Any price I list here will be obsolete in a few weeks, so it's best to check on Wirefly and get the current price.
@aishaIdrees92 Sprint's phones do not use SIM cards. Sprint (and Verizon) use CDMA technology, which allows them to program the phone (including the number) remotely. Neither Sprint nor Verizon use SIMs for CDMA service.
@wirefly Alright. But I was wondering if you could help me. What kind of phone is better/you would recommend... HTC EVO shift 4g or HTC Desire S? Thank you very much :)
i have a question i have the evo shift and the battery is burnned out but wen i turn it out with the burned out battery my screen dont work is it cuz of the batter or cuz my screen is broken? also can yu flash this phone to metro
@scareface411 Without examining your phone, I can't answer your questions about the battery and display. You should probably take it to a Sprint store and have them check it for you.
And if you unlock the EVO Shift it *might* work on MetroPCS but I really don't know how the frequencies line up between Sprint and MetroPCS. Maybe someone will come along who knows the answer to that question.
@Smurfadelis Honestly? I would not expect any phone's battery to last for 7 hours of constant use with the display active. If you have the display active constantly on a phone, I would not expect the battery to last past four hours. And that's for any phone, not just the EVO Shift.
@wirefly i once had the lg rumor touch and i used it for school but it broke multiple times so i never bought it again but it lasted through my whole school time of about 7 hours but at the end it would have a low battery i would charge it over night and immediantly use it when i wake up so i was just wandering if it could last maybe ill get multiple batteries and charge them both and use one until it dies and put in the spare
@Smurfadelis That's pretty good performance from a phone! The Rumor Touch is a good texting phone, but it's not in the same smartphone category as an Android phone. But to answer your question, you could definitely carry a spare battery and easily make it through the day on two batteries.
@y5nthon5a Sprint has at least three sliding keyboard phones right now: Samsung Transform, Samsung Epic 4G and the HTC EVO Shift. Of those three, the Epic 4G is my favorite. The Epic has the nicest display and the best keyboard, and is all-around an excellent phone.
@skpeace2 It's tricky defining a word such as "easily." Can you do it with one hand? Yes. Will it slide open on its own? No. Is it tricky to slide open, like its cousin the T-Mobile G2? No, not at all.
@tjsm97 Yes, the HTC EVO Shift has a capacitive touch screen. I don't think any phones released in 2011 use the older resistive technology... they are all capacitive now.
@Tangotango93 Of those three, I prefer the EVO 4G. All three are good phones, however... the Nexus S has turned into a big seller for Sprint, which took me by surprise.
@aqm360 I like big screens, and the EVO 4G has the biggest display of this bunch. I prefer to do my typing on screen, and the EVO 4G has a nice on-screen keyboard. That's the main reason.
I've just about had it with touch screen keyboards, would you recommend this phone for someone who would text a lot and use it for maybe some games from time to time?
@Preechie Yes, the EVO Shift is a good choice for someone with those requirements. You might want to also see if you can get a Samsung Epic 4G... it has an even nicer keyboard.
@PrinceNippy Are you asking if an external mouse can be used with the EVO Shift? No, I'm not aware that a mouse can be used with this phone. If you are asking about an on-screen pointer, such as you have on a computer, no it doesn't do that either. You simply point to things with your finger. The EVO Shift does have a little pointer pad to help you move the cursor around the screen.
@JayReedism Sprint changed the wording on that. Now, all Sprint plans have a $10 premium added in, so the least expensive unlimited data plan is $79.99 per month.
My aunt has this phone and she says it's good. I'm getting it too this week! I remember wanting an iPhone back in the day, but I can't stand all virtual keyboards, especially because I wear fake nails; it's too hard to text. I like the touch screen & pull-out keyboard together. However, I know I speak for everyone when I say that they need to come up with better batteries for Smartphones; they die too quick! It's like you HAVE to buy the car charger, just so you can give them more money -_-
No offense but u really judt talked about its size

@scareface411 Without examining your phone, I can't answer your questions about the battery and display. You should probably take it to a Sprint store and have them check it for you.
And if you unlock the EVO Shift it *might* work on MetroPCS but I really don't know how the frequencies line up between Sprint and MetroPCS. Maybe someone will come along who knows the answer to that question.

ive been hearing things about the battery life is it good if you like to text, play games.and web browse
texting-all the time
games-30 minutes to 2 hours a day
web browsing-maybe check facebook or watch a few videos
would this phones battery last through 7 hours of texting for school?
Smurfadelis 5 months ago

Smurfadelis 5 months ago
@Smurfadelis That's pretty good performance from a phone! The Rumor Touch is a good texting phone, but it's not in the same smartphone category as an Android phone. But to answer your question, you could definitely carry a spare battery and easily make it through the day on two batteries.

For Sprint users who want a keyboard phone, is this the best phone for me on the market? Thanks!
y5nthon5a 5 months ago
@y5nthon5a Sprint has at least three sliding keyboard phones right now: Samsung Transform, Samsung Epic 4G and the HTC EVO Shift. Of those three, the Epic 4G is my favorite. The Epic has the nicest display and the best keyboard, and is all-around an excellent phone.

@skpeace2 It's tricky defining a word such as "easily." Can you do it with one hand? Yes. Will it slide open on its own? No. Is it tricky to slide open, like its cousin the T-Mobile G2? No, not at all.
So I think the answer to your question is "yes."

is it a capasitive touch screen?
tjsm97 6 months ago
@tjsm97 Yes, the HTC EVO Shift has a capacitive touch screen. I don't think any phones released in 2011 use the older resistive technology... they are all capacitive now.

which one is better? HTC Evo 4g,HTC shift, or Nexus s??
Tangotango93 6 months ago
@Tangotango93 Of those three, I prefer the EVO 4G. All three are good phones, however... the Nexus S has turned into a big seller for Sprint, which took me by surprise.

@wirefly why do you prefer the evo 4g if i may know, because i might get the shift tomorrow because i want a physical keyboard with phone
aqm360 6 months ago
@aqm360 I like big screens, and the EVO 4G has the biggest display of this bunch. I prefer to do my typing on screen, and the EVO 4G has a nice on-screen keyboard. That's the main reason.

I've just about had it with touch screen keyboards, would you recommend this phone for someone who would text a lot and use it for maybe some games from time to time?
Preechie 6 months ago
@Preechie Yes, the EVO Shift is a good choice for someone with those requirements. You might want to also see if you can get a Samsung Epic 4G... it has an even nicer keyboard.

@PrinceNippy Are you asking if an external mouse can be used with the EVO Shift? No, I'm not aware that a mouse can be used with this phone. If you are asking about an on-screen pointer, such as you have on a computer, no it doesn't do that either. You simply point to things with your finger. The EVO Shift does have a little pointer pad to help you move the cursor around the screen.

Do you have to pay the extra money for 4g even if you don't live in a 4g area?
JayReedism 6 months ago
@JayReedism Sprint changed the wording on that. Now, all Sprint plans have a $10 premium added in, so the least expensive unlimited data plan is $79.99 per month.
Bob at Wirefly
wirefly 6 months ago
@JayReedism As far as I know, when you purchase a plan with web and data it comes with 4G if you use it or not. There are 3G and Wi-Fi options also.
