Lift is caused by changing the velocity (speed or direction) of a fluid (turning the air). If lift was cause by differences between the distance of the upper and lower surfaces, how do hang gliders fly? Or paper planes (and missiles) with flat wings, or aerobatic aircraft and helicopters which use symmetrical aerofoils, or airliners which use wings that are flatter on top and more curved on the bottom?
This is a textbook fail, as far as I understand. A pressure gradient on the top of the wing provides the required centripetal force to accelerate a small control volume of air in a curved motion, causing increased speed of air on the upper surface, NOT THE OTHER WAY ROUND. Bernoulli's principle is an inadequate description of lift.
Bernoulli is actually not a good explanation to lift, too simplistic. Lift is actually because of kutta jukowski principles, downswash and circulation of the air.
