Yeah but at the same time, the rest of them are not being ironic as they fit the characters fdairly well. In addition, Al showed mercy on a sveral occassions and the placing of him at the end of the trailer ironises HIS comment but not those that came before (Alma mourning, Jane as Meek, Seth as seeking justice and Sol as persucuted etc) Cy's comment though isn't overly ironic and isn't in character either. Just seems like they needed something for him to say

Eh, can't lay all the blame on HBO. They gave Milch the chance to close out the series with either a half season or two 2-hour movies. He turned both down. At the time he was working on John from Cincinnati and pretty much sat on Deadwood. After HBO waited for months without word from Milch they had no choice but to release the actors from their contracts. So really, Milch is more to blame here than HBO. HBO is in it to make money, if I was in their place, I would have done the same thing.

It's a fucking travesty that HBO didnt give the show it's last season - just ONE more season to finish the fucking story, and some moronic bean counter kills it off to save money.

Nevermind all the money you would've made on the DVD sets of the complete finished series, the future syndication and worldwide broadcast sales, and so on. Nevermind all that - let's save a much smaller amount right now, and let's kill off our #1 show to do it.

If you are easily squeamish at foul language then stay away. However it's written in an almost Shakespearian format. Add to that complex story lines and rich character development it really is a groundbreaking show. A shallower person will say: "but they swear too much"

well rome wasn't cancelled. it just came to its proper end. the story was finished, what else could they have done? You don't want to drag it out like Hercules into season 8 and turn fans off to it. However Deadwood is a prime example of a show being cancelled before it's proper due. It deserved a Season 4, but Milch chose JFC instead :/

Season 4's premiere was good but the last episode -- aside from excellent acting scenes with EJO&McDonnell and Baltar as himself & Brother Cavil, the second episode was dull. However, I have been critical of Galactica's storyline since they decided to prematurely kill Adm. Cain and write off what could have been very interesting characters/stories from the Pegasus. They could have easily gotten an additional season by taking time to explore Pegasus and those characters, IMHO.

SciFi did not kill BSG. BSG was only going to have 4 seasons. The show creators made that abundantly clear early on in the series. Sometimes stories just have to end. However, I do agree that Deadwood's story did not end properly. They should have given it it's 4th season. The final episode would have been when the camp burned to the ground. I could only imagine how awesome that episode would have been =(

I agree about Deadwood's final episode with the camp burning to the ground. However you are wrong about Galactica. RDM stated emphatically that he and David Eick went to SciFi after they renewed BSG for Season 4 and wanted an additional two season guarantee. After SciFi said no, RDM&DE decided to end the series rather than risk BSG getting cancelled before they could tell their story.

Fact is, HBO chose to can Deadwood, but kept Rome Season 2 (horrible plot) and Sopranos Season.. what.. 8? Where the episodes were almost painful to watch, they were so dull.

Unfortunately, HBO released the actors from their contracts. Even though Ian McShane says if Season 4 / the made for TV movies were greenlit, he would drop whatever he was doing to come back. Aside from Alma Garrett, all of the other characters would have to be brought back. Without contracts, it's pretty much IMPOSSIBLE to coordinate all of those actors again. They would have to set it for like.. 10 years from now, which hey.. is fine with me, considering the alternative.

Cancelling Deadwood was the biggest mistake any TV network/business (w/e) has ever made, shame on HBO.

The more I watch it, the more I'm convinced that it is the best show in the history of TV, and there was only one more season intended to finish it's run, and they canned it, my god.

Yeah I heard they canned it due to budget reasons, which I think they spent like over 100 million on Rome's season 2, which ultimately wasn't even that good imo. Rome should have ended with Caesar's death or at least not have had such a huge scale for season 2 (huge Egypt scapes etc). That way they could have given Deadwood the finale it deserves instead of cancelling it right at the cliffhanger.

Yeah man, when I first got my hands on Deadwood, I watched the entire season 1 straight through.  I didn't sleep.. I know that sounds weird, but it was just that engrossing. I recommend it to anyone who's tired of the cookie-cut "dramas" all over network TV. Watch the first 5 eps of Deadwood and you will be hooked.
