I am a marine biologist working on this beautiful gulf coast and I can telling you from personal experience that there is nothing redeeming about sharks. First off they are billions of them. In the Pensacola area most of our shark attacks are from Bull sharks getting too close to shore and into populated areas. Best tip to avoid them is not the wear bright or reflective clothing that can be confused as fish. When you walk out into the water and the sand has a sudden drop that area is often patrolled by sharks. ALWAYS have a buddy so you're not swimming alone so help can reach you. Lastly it's best not to swim at night.

You do know Bull sharks have been known to kill and subsequently eat each other, they don't travel in a 'family', sometimes they do in packs but they break away and go solo a lot. As well as that, these fishers probably didn't intend to catch a bull shark on their line, it's one of the most visceral, aggressive sharks there are and they had to pull it in and free it, would you rather they just cut the line as it was with the hook and line still in it's mouth? With all these comments about cruelty, I expected the shark would be flipped upside down with sand dumped in its mouth. These people were fishing. They caught a shark, which is pretty exciting, and brought it onto shore to check it out. There are plenty of sharks remaining, and they probably returned this one to the shallow oceans we swim in anyway. Nice catch.

I think a lot of the responses to this video are ridiculous. People saying that the shark has feelings and is saying "Oh No...I'll never get to see my family again" or the people who say that sharks have a "heart of gold".. It's an animal, they don't have feelings, they have instincts. Then saying that you wish the fishermen would be attacked... so it's ok for a shark with a "heart of gold" to attack a fisherman, or just random people swimming, but it's not ok for a fisherman to go after them?

You do know Bull sharks have been known to kill and subsequently eat each other, they don't travel in a 'family', sometimes they do in packs but they break away and go solo a lot. As well as that, these fishers probably didn't intend to catch a bull shark on their line, it's one of the most visceral, aggressive sharks there are and they had to pull it in and free it, would you rather they just cut the line as it was with the hook and line still in it's mouth? Relax people.

With all these comments about cruelty, I expected the shark would be flipped upside down with sand dumped in its mouth. These people were fishing. They caught a shark, which is pretty exciting, and brought it onto shore to check it out. There are plenty of sharks remaining, and they probably returned this one to the shallow oceans we swim in anyway. Nice catch.
