  • Can anyone else hear the drums?

  • I also like the latin translation for this: when amongst humans, we should be humane. I like the fact that that seems to be the doctor's message to the dalecks sung by the ood.

  • I loved the part when they lead earth back across the galaxy and this song started playing...like it gave you hope for the future of humankind, and that all the planets were free from the clutches of the dalecks. It also gave me a reminder of the fact that the ood are still singing for the doctor and of course, the late great companion Donna Noble as an expression of their gratitude, and I felt like it was humanity's turn to do the same.

  • I put this song on my ipod touch. It is now an iphone.

  • Why does this have a strong sense of the Master's rhythm, the heart beat of a time lord..? Am I the only one to notice or is it intentional? Ii can't remember whether that master was even involved in this episode. I don't think he was...

  • @TheSamAylward I didn't even notice that, but no, he wasn't in the episode. I don't think it was on purpose, but if it was, they were probably thinking more of the heartbeat of a Timelord in a celebratory way, rather than the drums in his head in a cryptic kind of way.

  • this should definately be in every series

  • They used ths on radio 2 as a tribute to Elizabeth Sladen (Sarah Jane Smith)

  • The only song better than this one in the whole universe is the theme song to Doctor Who.

  • This song is about hope. Hope for the future. About truth, about justice, about how special it is to be alive. In short, this song is about all the doctor is and ever will be, so long as there are whovians like us.

  • @TheDoctorDonna103849 Amen to that!!!! :D :D :D

  • To quote 'Nan', what a load of old SHITE our national anthem is, I vote it be changed to Song of Freedom :D

  • wow i couldn't get past 40 seconds. This got my emotions now lol

  • Beautiful soundtrack, it was the last time the 10th doctor would be with all of his compainions together :(

  • This song sounds just like a song I am searching for, but the vocals in the other song aren't as strong. Anyone know what it is?

  • @akitylasaraleen123 Are you talking about Songs of Captivity and Freedom from The Planet of the Ood? This song is a variation of the other one.

  • I don't think you really get many songs like this outside of national anthems or religious songs

    This is beautiful

  • this song makes me cry. Murray Gold is a genius!!!

  • Fiction sometimes deals with reality, and that scene when they're "flying earth back home" is such a good metaphor for us, we need to protect our world, its the only home we've got.

Gold is a FANTASTIC composer, an absolute genius in my eyes. This piece of music is my favourite from Doctor Who and likely of all time, its beautiful to me.

  • Song of Freedom is the name given to a hymn-like piece of music sung by the Ood, in particular after their liberation from captivity. It is unknown whether this is the title used by the Ood themselves (DW: Planet of the Ood).

  • Composed by Murray Gold, "Song for Freedom" is heard several times during Series 4. It is first heard during Planet of the Ood.

In Journey's End a full orchestral version with non-English choir vocals was heard during the sequence in which the Tenth Doctor and his companions use the TARDIS to restore the Earth to its original location. While the first version is heard by the characters, this version does not appear to be heard by them, and as such is not considered "in-universe".

  • Both versions of "Song of Freedom" are included in the Series 4 soundtrack CD issued in late 2008; the Planet of the Ood version as part of a medley entitled "Songs of Captivity and Freedom", and the Journey's End version on its own. In his liner notes Gold indicates that the arrangement used for Journey's End was influenced by the famous John Lennon recording "Give Peace a Chance."

  • MRWALLBURGH, you should never get any description, this music is just impossible tu describe. Thankyou, just wonderfull.

  • This is so beautiful

  • Ultimate Victory Music
