  • I'm not familiar with the Ligeti piece, so I can't say if it was good or not, but I love watching Joshua Roman play.

  • very cool! from 2:57 you improvise alot on the theme of of ligeti cello sonata right? it's pretty cool, well done man!

  • honestly joshua roman isn't doing anything incredibly exciting with his cello.... don't get me wrong, the ligeti sonata is hard, but the improvisation at the beginning wasn't that great, honestly only exploring some really really obvious licks that any cellist with half an ounce of brains has already figured out.... as an improvisor he's nothing special

the 2nd mvt of the Ligeti is impressive though..... but then it always is any time it's actually up to tempo....

  • Extremely well played and interesting, congratulations !

  • I love this... very cool, the origionality and mix of old school vs. new school really makes this piece interesting, i would pay to go see this!

  • Joshua Roman = amazing talent. Too bad he's not playing with another musician.

  • EPIC MOMENTS.. when the cello starts playing the main theme is sooooooooooo sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo relaxing and it fills you up with great emotions

  • great!

  • C'mon, freeq......get a life!

Music is by nature without boundaries.

We're in the 21st century now.

  • It's called a "Jam Session". The spontaneity of it all makes it what it is. Music isn't only rhythm and melody. It's infinite along with the great melodies of the world.

  • Ahh... the sweet, relaxing sound of improvisation....

  • Jam sessions of the future! Awesome!

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • Joshua sounds great even without the other music background/computer sound effects etc.

  • awesome

  • Awesome Ligeti!

  • thank you.

  • AWESOME DJ AND AWESOME CELLIST!!!

  • I loved watching this through HD, it was so clear and awesome hahahah...

  • clearly the raffish DJ isn't getting his due in these comments

  • the raffish dj only gets challenged in situations like this when something musically happens...otherwise its routine

  • Great !

  • 4:07-4:49 great balance, traveled into my hair follicles. At 4:50 some low stray blast paralyzed my mitral valve, luckily the repeat shocked it back to action seconds later :) ..... guys, U rock!

  • This was one of my favorite moments of being in the YTSO, w/o a doubt. Joshua's the man, and we're both from Oklahoma! haha

  • Bravo!!!

  • Wow! How do you memorize music like that unless you have photographic memory?

  • i think early on they said they are just making it up as they go

  • Through hard work, dedication, passion, and practice!

  • It's improvisation...no memorization required. :-)

  • Awesome stuff! love the cello, wish I coud play.

  • hope they put this up for download or somethin. awesome stuff

  • REALLY COOL!!!! Like it a lot!!!

  • the last half was the best

  • Madly diggin it!

  • I think that the celloist used the cello to imitate the sound of an electronic guitar.

the feeling was quite similar, it's a trial, nothing good or bad.

  • If you want to see the cello being used in a similar way to the electric guitar, just punch 'Apocalyptica' into the search, they go MUCH further with distortion than this guy does.

  • a cello player=a cellist.

  • yes, cellist, not celloist, thank you.

  • what a talented young man! very nice.

  • Love the first half!

  • Astounding. Truly. Do it again.

  • That was awsome, I simply can't say it in any ohter way AWSOME!

  • I see why you could say that about the first 6 minutes, but the Ligeti sonata IS real classical music.

  • Mason is it the dj mason-exceeder ??

  • Absolute. Pure. Unadulterated. Talent. That was amazing. I can't even express in words just how captivating that was. I was going through my subscriptions and only planned on watching the first few minutes. After that, I was hooked, and watched the entire piece. That was. Phenominal. Such talent, such poise, such.. such control. I am speechless. I absolutely loved this. =)

  • AMAZING!

  • wow!!!

Esto esta genial!!! Increible como combinan el chelo con musica electronica.... Bellisimo

    Congrats guys!! this is beautiful...

  • now that's musical talent

  • That was incredible.

The music was the perfect dose of classical and modern.

excellent I love the cellist's enthusiasm.

    [ :

  • brilliant :]

  • he plays from his soul and his heart

that was really amazing to watch

  • Brilliant. Anyone who disregards classical music for not being modern can go and wallow in their hypocritical mind. No offense...

  • I second that!

This is what I love about contemporary (art) music.

  • what's the name of the piece he played @ the end?

  • Outstanding!

I could just feel the passion that was inside the chellist's music. I was astounded! Intense performance, very unique and fantastic. I'm really inspired!

    Keep the talent coming. (:

  • Wow,this is just unbelievable.

I wish i get to get as good as him.

    Damn...

    ^-^

  • sweet that sounded awesome

  • That's amazing how they combined new and interesting cello sounds with electric sounds from a Mac. Man, I play cello, but my skills pale in comparison to this amazing cellist's!

    Bravo!!
