I knew a girl (well, at least a fair recording) / sang in such a way / more pretty than any; / a mezzo-soprano was she. // This very song / she stood and sang, while I / at the piani (imaginingly) sat / to draw her out, bring closer yet / that voice so dulcet sweet. // Better than this example, / her fulsome charms I recall of late. / Been looking for that long lost version / e'er since the player ate my tape!
I attended this performance, not realizing it was being telecast. Horne sang this signature piece as one of several encores. The audience did not want to let her go: even after the house lights came on, the wild applause continued and she had to sing yet another encore. Thanks for posting!

Why do they say "light brown hair" instead of "long red tail" like it was on Ovide and the Gang?

A beautiful song, sung beautifully.
