Another great dialogue from that movie was between him and the Indian. Josey: people I start to like don't ever stick around long. Indian: people you don't like don't seem to stick around long neither!
The line of " dyin' aint much of a livin' boy " was also used by Clint in the movie on a Confederate Soldier as he was dying and gave that boy a last smoke when he passed on. What's freaky about this is that the line was cut from ALL main stream re-runs of the movie. It's almost anti-war if you get the drift! So true to life. I once was active duty and this line stuck with me thru the years, it's true!
@1962cyn Thanx, you are correct on the movie name there, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly!
The line is conspicuously removed on TV reruns from the war scene dialog between Clint and the soldier. If you get the full version unedited you will see and hear it for the waste that War is as I believe that was the reason for the clip in the movie - classic!
Too much for the establishment on TV with the wars going on as Obummer outdoes Bush...
one of my favorite movies ever. I've probably quoted that line more than any other, at random in inappropriate times. I even named my dog Josey, the best damn dog I ever had. Smart and loyal german shepard, lived to 13
Who's had more classic movie lines than Clint Eastwood? Rhetorical question.
I use to see him in Redding, CA when he would fly in on the Warner Brothers GIII and I would fuel up his A-Star for him for the trip to his ranch! Use to rent an old Chevy from one of my buddies to go into town incognito. When he came back, there would be a $50 in the cup holder. Classy guy!
True American Icon... like baseball, hot dogs and apple pie!
Yes; although the author of this comment has almost certainly moved on he (judging by the username) is spot on - a great moment of camaraderie between two men of dubious ethics. Like Wales, the bounty hunter should not be judged as he may have a story similar to Wales himself (or equally noble for completely different reasons). Eastwood is just awesome. Surely his pèce de résistance is still coming. Peace to all good people here!

I love that quote. It's probably my favorite movie quote of all time. But with Clint, there's too many.

I wonder if Lucas used this scene as a model for Han in the Cantina scene.

It's been suggested more than once. Seems so fitting too.

Wonderfully written, directed, and performed. The bountyhunter knows he is going to die yet he has to hold true to his own code of personal honor.
Only Eastwood understands that and respects him as an equal before he is forced to kill him.
Just so richly complex and so well captured...
