The problem with Smid's fighting is he doesn't know when he has a guy lined up... he's often got a clear shot but he goes to grab and switch hands instead. He totally over powered Iginla in that fight, he's obviously way stronger than him, but he failed to capitalize on that much. Quinn is a decent coach, and leaving MacTavish in there so long didn't help any, but with a few years of breaking bad habbits, he can re-tune the team. Losing to Carolina in 2006 no doubt killed their confidence. Many teams that make it deep into the play-offs and get knocked out have a hard time coming back. Look at Carolina. Even Detroit is suffering. Oh well, we'll see.
