The replacements for these should have 1/2 inch with full raster CCD's.1/3 inch CCD's with pixel shifting to achieve HD dosen't cut it.10 Bit AVC Intra would be icing on the cake.If your listening Jan thats what us Indie filmmakers would love to see on the next model(s)
@Elliottebbs first off no HD DV tapes? some of us still use those. second P2 cards are way to expensive. you already spend a shit load on this crap and you still have to buy a P2 card thats more than 60GB for $700?? third it records to a FS100 which is the worst external HD ever made. completely unreliable. and finally my Canon 500D cost way less and the 1080 HD video quality is way better than this camera.
well if you want hdv tapes get a hvx200.... yes fair enough p2 cards are very expensive at the momment but they should come down in price.
and your hdslr may produce amasing pictures (im thinking about getting a 550d myself) their are many things that they carnt do and arnt built for. like xlr inputs etc
I have an HVX200 For sale, the beauty about it is,you can down-convert to tape right in the camera, and believe me, no one wants hard-drives for feed, they want tapes!
Jk, I'm seriously considering this camera. But the thing is that I videotape a lot of long events flying solo and the P2 cards can be limiting. I know it records SD onto the P2 cards. One 16GB card equals a single tape. Getting another 4 cards can really be cost prohibitive.
This camera is one part of the HVX-200a, HPX-170, and HMC-150 camera family line. It offers very nice features at a reasonable price. I can't wait until DV_Expo, so I can play with the cameras some more...

Yeah having option for both HDV and P2 is important.
I have tons mini DV tapes which I previously shot on.
Plus shooting on HDV on miniDV tapes are waay cheaper and its NLE system friendly. You don't need a power computer to edit . . .
Unless you are a really High end Professional . . .

Use the SDI out to an AJA or Blackmagic SDI
capture card. You'll need a raid setup for
high data capture rates.

Well, when at a wedding I can't really bring a RAID along with me can I? And is the cost of an added firestore worth it? Much to think about.

does this camera record to sd cards and the lense is a wide angle???
Maxie0000007 2 years ago
The Panasonic HMC-150 records to SD Cards (SDHC) and has a 28mm wide angle lens. Both the HVX-200a and the HPX-170 record to P2.

Thanks Jan. Can't wait to get my hands on one of these little wonders. The HVX 200 was a great camera and this looks like a solid improvement.
