@BobOfTheSickness I bet it's also really difficult to construct harmonies live. They would have to practice for hours before the show. They didn't play Kerosene when I saw them at the vans warped tour either, but they did play Sorrow which sorta made up for it
really weird song if you think about it. The vocal melody sounds like it came from a freakin polka song, yet the band is playing this bright, hard hitting punk rock. It's really innovative, yet is this good?? I just feel confused.
i love the way the snare pops but yeah Brooks isn't a punk drummer he doesn't have the feel br's old drummer was way more into making the song sound good instead of making himself hear.
They should play this more often. They really pulled it off well. Some songs they seldom play live sound a little dodgey when they do but this one is great!
@Celebin I agree , I miss Bobby as well he was in the band for so long and had a unique style . But what they lost with Bobby they gained 110% more with Brooks .
mr "atfreema" stop trying to act like youre smarter than everyone by coming to a video "on accident" and insulting it. BR write songs for their own pleasure and to get their feelings out of their chests, not for you to analyze the hell out of them when the song's over. and while theyre writing lyrics, what's so wrong with singing about worldly issues? just because theyre not singing about the shit your belived emo bands are singing about doesnt make them obnoxious.

Bad Religion is a really obnoxious band, it's like they're some sixties band that tries to teach lessons with all of their songs. Then I found out the guy is a college professor, how about that!
No, their didactic pose that's off putting. As for "issues in the world" I'm sure most people over fourteen are aware that there's suffering and people in power are hypocritical, which seem to be the major issues they explore.
Art, even rock music can (heck must) cast light on the shadows of the human condition without lecturing. Big Black has several
songs about getting drunk and fucking whores which which explore greater themes than any Bad Religion song I've heard.
Bad Religion is an influential, intellectual, awesome, otherwordly source of greatness.
If global problems concern Graggin and Mr. Brett, is it so strange that they write about it?
I'd rather hear about the kyoto protocoll, corrupt politicians, narrowminded religions and so forth, than having to put up with a 30 year old guy singing about pathetic teenage romance.
Thankfully, there is more music than Bad Religion and 30 year old singing about teenage romance.
Singing about politics is possible without sounding like a teacher, which this guy does.
It's silly, cause if you are interested in Kyoto and religion you can read a book about it instead of getting that sort of technical and historical information information from a three minute rock song. Or do those deep issues only register for three minutes?
You're just being an idiot now, for the sake of pushing the argument in a circle.
I love Bad Religion because the music is, in my opinion, simply fantastic, and I'm also a fan of great lyrics. Graffin and Gurewitz are great lyricists.
Maybe exposure plays a role for people who are _already_ interested in those things, but alone it wouldn't do that. I know enough BR and Rage fans to know that. Rock music makes people buy t-shirts. Sorry.
I arrived at this video on accident. There's more than one song named "Kerosene" I left my opinion of the band, not their fans.
Mutefx see you're wrong. Exposure to these guys doesn't make people think any more clearly or look at issues in different ways.
Rook, if you and the others didn't care about my opinion why did you all respond to me multiple times?

The Chorus is a mantra, kinda like a Vonnegut thing, always thought this song has "something" about it.....discuss?
jduff59 1 year ago
@jduff59 they're missing the harmonies during the chorus. it pisses me off a little bit. the song is nothing without the harmonies

That's where Brett really comes in handy. The dual guitar solo is also gone. I guess those are the reasons they don't play it often

Goddamn assholes, trying to inform people of issues in the world.
They should just sing about getting drunk and fucking whores, right? How un-American of them...

You failed to see my point.
I don't listen to Bad Religion to educate myself. I listen to Bad Religion because I think it's a great band.
Now, if they would write lyrics worthy of romance-deprived teenagers, I wouldn't listen to them without feeling sick after a few minutes.
And all these big, fancy word are substitutes for more complicated sentences. So why not use them?
JohnZackarias 3 years ago
I suppose I still do.
Do you like them because they don't sing about romance?

The lyrics are obvious, you can tell halfway through each song what it's about.
Art should reveal, not tell.
But if you like them keep on liking it, a lot of people liked avocado and yellow kitchens in the seventies.
atfreema 3 years ago
Maybe the exposure to the content will compel people to look into an issue they hadnt previously, dumbass.
A lot of their content has to do with personal religion: Is there a God, does he care, etc.
Its much more diverse & substantive than, "people in power are hypocrites."
Bottom Line: If you dont like them, dont listen to them.
But dont troll youtube & shit on them like they insisted you listen to their music & conform.
Theyre not playing a show on your front lawn, so stfu!
