Thank you Lord for the gift of your real presence in the sacrament of your Body and Blood.
The Eucharist and the Cross are stumbling blocks to people because Truth is like a sword that divides. It divided the disciples and some walked away: “this teaching is too hard”.
"They abstain from the Eucharist and from prayer, because they do not admit that the Eucharist is the flesh of our Savior Jesus Christ,.." - St. Ignatius of Antioch, "Letter to the Smyrnaeans", 80-110 A.D."
"O my God, I believe, I adore, I hope, and I love Thee. I ask pardon for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope, and do not love Thee." The Angel of Peace.
Christ's sacrifice on the cross was a one time deal. Claiming to sacrifice a graven image of Christ called the eucharist over and over again millions upon millions of times is to deny the very heart of the gospels, pulling Christ down from the cross and refusing to accept His power to save us from sin His way.
Exodus 20:4...."Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth."
I firmly believe that Thou art really and corporally present in the Blessed Sacrament of the altar.I adore Theehere present fromthe very depthsof my
heart, and I worshipThy sacred presence with all possible humility. O my soul, what joy to have Jesus Christ alwayswith us, and to be able to speak to Him,heart to heart, with allconfidenceGrant, O Lord, that I,having adoredThy Divine Majesty here on earthin this wonderful Sacrament, may be able to adore It eternally in heavenAmen
When Christ said to eat His body and drink His blood He was speaking figuratively, not literally. The Book of John also says "unless a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God." Does this mean we need to be pushed out of our mother's womb again? Of course not. That would be impossible. Christ offered His body and blood on the cross for us. He wants us to accept His body and blood sacrifice for the forgiveness of our sins.
Hi John, no Jesus was not speaking figuratively :) all the Christians up the reformation (even including Martin Luther) believed in the Real Presence. The idea that it's a symbol is a new teaching.. the early Church believed differently. If Jesus was speaking figuratively here, why didn't He correct the disciples when they thought it's literal and left Him? He just let them leave.. the Eucharist is the SAME sacrifice as on the Cross, - presented before us
@johnthreesixteen316 Jesus WAS serious that's why the jews didn't understand him. "Joh 6:52 The Jews therefore strove one with another, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? ". And also the disciples in Emaus recognized him. "And it came to pass, when he had sat down with them to meat, he took the bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. "
@leinadster88 Hello friend. Was Christ nailed to the cross? Or was it a piece of bread nailed up there? Metaphors my good friend......metaphors. Christ is also called the vine, the gate, the rock, the cornerstone etc. etc.
@johnthreesixteen316 Have you ever read the New Testament in classic greek, in which was written? Certainly you didn't. Read John 6,56 "o trogon mou ton sarka kai pinon mou to aima en emoi menei kago en auto." Trogon LITERALLY MEANS "swallow/chew" that's why the jews didn't understand and many left him(John 6,66) because "This saying is hard; who can accept it?". According to your logic, if it's just metaphoric, why Paul bothers writing to the Corinthias? Read 1 Co 11, 23-27
@leinadster88 Hello friend. I think you have missed the point of Christ's message. John 6:63 "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life."
@johnthreesixteen316 That's not the answer to the question. So, why did Jesus said THIS IS MY BODY, THIS IS MY BLOOD refering to the bread and the wine respectively? DO THIS IN MEMORY OF MINE is a commandment and the Apostles got it right, you can read Act 2,42 "They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of the bread and to the prayers." I still wait for your answer on why Paul writes to the Corinthias about this if it's "metaphoric".
when Jesus said "do this in memory of Me", if you look at the original Greek, the word of "memory" doesn't mean to remember, but to actually make something present.. to re-present :)
@MarysLittleFlower That's why the Mass is the RENEWAL of the sacrifice of Christ, we just don't remember, we re-present, like you just said because Christ is the Eternal Priest, the Sacrifice, Victim and Altar, we participate with Him and St Paul spoke about this "Since there is one bread, we who are many are one body; for we all partake of the one bread. " 1 Co. 10, 17 :)
@johnthreesixteen316 The word used in John 6:53 in Greek does indeed mean eat literally or figuratively. But in John 6:54, a different word is used, a Greek verb that means PHYSICALLY to chew or gnaw. It is obviously a further more lucid explanation by our Lord Jesus Christ so that everyone would clearly understand what was being taught.
