  • I'm am pretty scared for this procedure, I have to have it this year so that I can have braces. I am really worried but not really; if anything, I am mostly worried about the pain. I inherited this from my mom and all four canines are impacted like her canines were. Will they do all four at the same time? that would be great. And pain experienced when all four are extracted??? Thank you!

  • @FreedumMuse There is a wide range of difficulty for this procedure. The one shown in the video is rather simple with only gum tissue over the tooth. Most important we numb up the area so you do not feel anything. In your case if you have 4 impacted canines and an oral surgeon does the procedure they can even put you to sleep so you will not have to worry and get them all done at once. Just make sure you ask your doctors all these questions.

    Good Luck

  • i'm getting this done this month, and i'm freaking out, my oral surgeon asked me if I wanted to stay awake, or go to sleep. I told him I'd stay awake cause anesthesia and all the i.v's and stuff freaks me out. Does anyone know how long this procedure takes, and how it feels during and after the surgery? I'm really nervous for this, haha.

  • @caseyyjane The procedure shown in the video is a simple uncovering of a tooth. I this case there was only gum tissue over the tooth and it is not very deep. Follow what your Oral surgeon recommends. I've had patient who have been awake or asleep. During the procedure you feel nothing, It can be sore after depending on the depth of the tooth.

    You will do fine.

    Good Luck

  • so this is basically just like an exposure surgery for the teeth that are not high up right.? instead of using the chain and the button you attach the bracket to the tooth and pull it down that way... or am i all wrong.?

  • i'm pretty sure i have to get a chain my left eye tooth had never came down. i have a small mouth and the right one has came down causing one of the my teeth to be pushed back. would you know how long it will take b4 i get braces and stuff? I no longer have my wisdom teeth and did have a explander for a while until my dog decided to break it. so haven't used it for over a hour maybe 2.

  • @Munequita1990 MAKE SURE YOU ARE SEEING AN ORTHODONTIST NOT JUST A DENTIST. Orthodontist have 2 -3 years of specialized training in dealing with problems like this. Your regular dentist does not. Once you see an orthodontist they can tell you exactly what you need done, how long it will take and when is the best time to start treatment.

    Good Luck

  • Does this hurt.

  • @TheLeft4Dead23 To do this procedure we numb the area first so you do not feel any thing. After the numbing wears off it will feel similar to when you burn your mouth with hot drink or pizza.

    Great question.

    Dr. B

  • @facesortho Im getting the chain and bracket because one of my canines are impacted. Is the incision from the back or the front

  • @TheLeft4Dead23 That will depend on the position of the tooth, how high up it is and on what procedure your surgeon feels will work best for your specific case. Just ask them and they will be happy to tell you.

    Good Luck

  • i have an impacted pre molar can this treatment be used also?

  • @bahamianchick242 This will only work in some cases when the tooth is only covered by gum tissue & it is not too deep.

    Dr. B

  • @facesortho if you dont mind answering my question quickly, asap. was this patient under local or regional anesthesia. and if so what would your recommendation be if the tooth is almost out and its diagonal. my oral surgion said to go for regional. but i personally think local is enough? its only 25 minutes to do the incision. .

  • I'd rather have this than having a chain.. Hopefully this one of my options(:

  • @megirl43 This option really can only be used if the tooth is close to comming in on its own and just has excess gum tissue over it. Most teeth that are impacted need to have a chain attched to it. This is not any more or less painful, it only sounds worse.

    Good Luck

    Dr. B

  • @facesortho I just recieved word that this is one of my many options! we'll see how it goes(: thanks! -chelsiee

  • getting this tomorrow :S

i've read through all these comments and so far, they say its not painful at all. still nervous and scared

    hopefully all ends well

  • Sorry for all the questions. This will probably be my last one. Is it normal for yellow stuff to be around/on the tooth that was exposed? One of the teeth that was exposed was deeper and really close to my nose and the hole has a bit of yellow stuff in it. I've been rinsing with salt water. It doesn't hurt when I take it out, but it hurts a few minutes after. I'm not sure if it's suppose to be there or not. I have a checkup in two days.

  • @PortoGF This sounds like it is tissue healing over the exposure site. If the tooth was high up it is OK for tissue to cover the exposure site if a chain was attched to the tooth and is comming thru the site. If it was just left open you may want to call your doctor if the whole tooth is being covered over and there is no chain or brace on the tooth. For now just rinse with warm salt water and contack your doctor.

    Good luck

    Dr. B

  • @facesortho Thank you so much, you've helped a lot.

  • About how long does it take for the teeth to come down once they have the bracket and chain on them?

  • @PortoGF That depends on the position of the tooth and how high up the tooth is. Teeth towards the front come in much quicker usually after a few weeks to months. Teeth to the back can take a while (some 6-9 months)

    Dr. B

  • @facesortho what would u recommend, local anesthesia or regional ? and if local will it hurt or will you feel a lot of pain when they cut it with a scalpel? please answer asap if you can ty :)

  • Can you eat normally after you have this done?

  • @PortoGF There is no problem in most cases.

    Dr. B

  • I had this done today. Why are my gums black around the hole? Will they stay like that?

  • @PortoGF They are black because the laser burns the tissue. It will go away in a few days.

  • I'm having this done in a week on four of my teeth, and I'm so nervous... :(. Im having my canines done and the teeth on the left side right beside my molars on the top and bottom. I'm soooo freaking nervous. They won't put me out either because as soon as I have it done, I have to go to my orthodontist to get the chains on. I'm so scared to have it done because one time when I had a tooth pulled, they didn't freeze it enough and I felt it :(

  • @PortoGF The first thing is this is much easier than getting a tooth pulled. I am an orthodontist and I did the surgery in this video. There are different types of procedures to uncover an impacted canine and it depends on the position of the tooth. Almost all of the cases I have done myself or sent out to an oral surgeon or periodontist experience no discomfort during the procedure and there are pain meds for after. You will do fine. Ask questions from your DOC.

    Good Luck Dr. B

  • @facesortho When the freezing wears off, how much does it hurt?

  • @PortoGF For this type of surgery with Laser only it feel like a when you burn the roof of your mouth after eating or drinking something that is too hot.

    Dr. B

  • @XXrainbowzebrasXX It will be somewhat uncomfortable after, but they will give you medication so in won't be to painfull. This video shows a minor procedure. Most patients are fine in a few days. This really helps to be able to get the teeth in. This is done all the time. You will do great.

    Good luck

    Dr. B

  • one of my teeth is inpacted in my gums and theres a bump where my cheek is and it cant come out because one of my other teeth is blocking it from coming in so i have to get surgery and theres a small gap where my canine supposed to be and im very very terrified :(((( any advice?

  • @elexisisbeast Don't be "terrified", we handle these kind of problems all the time. Go and see an orthodontist for an evaluation. They will review your situation with you and let you know the best treatment for your case.

    Good luck

  • @brittanyluvsfashion If this is the procedure you are getting done it usually causes minimal discomfort. While the procedure is being done I numb the area for my patients. After the numbness wears off it kind of feels like when you burn your mouth after eating Pizza that is too hot, or hot coffee.

    Good Luck

    Dr. B

  • Is this laser surgery for anyone that has an impacted canine?

  • @kimmytwilight98 It depends on your specific situation. Some canines are more impacted than others and may require a more extensive surgical procedure. The best way to find out what your situation requires is to work with an orthodontist to get you the smile you want.

    Good luck

    Dr. B

  • Omg i have this today :(:(:( scared

  • @GoldenBoy114 Don't be scared you will do great.

    Dr. B

  • I had my surgery today and I just want to tell people it was painless! I had nitrous oxide done and it made it that much better to handle.

The freezing was a piece of cake and the scalpel actually felt really neat, no pain.

The worst part of the whole thing was the smell of the burning flesh/bone as the dentist used the laser. It was sickening and almost made me vomit. Think happy thoughts!

And plus I got tylonal 3 with codine! Those are always fun but you have to take it easy with them.

  • i have to have this today :(((((

  • @ps3man109 You will do great.

    Dr. B

  • @facesortho Yeah it was really easy. the worst part was the burnt gums taste afterwards.

  • I am getting this surgery tomorrow. Which painkiller will I be prescribed?

  • @1616dasher It's usually not that bad, like when you burn the roof of your mouth eating hot pizza. We usually have our patients take over the counter advil or tylenol.

    Good luck

    Dr. B

  • @TheCrazymusicluver13 Good luck it will be fine.

  • Did this hurt???

  • @Dolphursss NO it does not. The area is numbed. After that numbing wears off it feels like a pizza burn on the roof of your mouth.

    Dr. B

  • ohhh scary i had this one to my left canine!Right one came down but braces pulled it into place still workin onthe left one n my mouth is KILLING ME!

  • My sister also has an impacted canine (though on the left if I remember right) -- she's turning 23 this November -- but there's no space for her tooth to come in, nor has it tried to come in.

  • shes probably stuck now, i think the only way for it 2 com down they would have to pull it, neither one of my canines grew in, so i just had 2 teeth pulled to make room for them
