  • Man it would've been so awesome to grow up in the '40s....

  • @ispeakcat95 -- Feel free to visit my swingin' blog (link in profile). It will not only enable you to travel back to the 1940's, but also further forward into the past ;) Cheers, Bruno "Brew" Leicht

  • 17 people are dogs.

  • 3:14 Okay, so there's a kid straddling the front of the car hanging on for dear life, but the cop is like "Eh, at least they're goin the speed limit."

  • Everyone is wearing either saddle shoes or penny loafers.

  • @ 3.14 And remember kids, always respect the Man.

  • The guy at 4:28 proves we've always had irritating hipsters dressed 30 years out of style (the 1920s then, the 1980s now).

  • ha,ha i like the 2:57 hahaha <3

  • MAN,did they drag out Cliff Edwards (Ukulele Ike/ voice of Jiminy Cricket) for this one ? I play SWING Guitar & Play Ukulele, plus Sing old Crooner tune`s so this one Hit`s Home W/me.... Duke of the Uke .

  • Fabulous!!!

  • @ 2:51 I was thinking...

    Kickin' in the front seat

    Sittin' in the back seat

    Gotta make my mind up

    Which seat can I take?

    Yes I'm sorry.

  • @esteetabernac You know before Rebecca people was smarter and if it was 1 seat they not thinking about it they just sit in there

  • Damn Benny Goodman had one fat sound! He was one righteous cat.

  • sarahfication - You need to get a dictionary and look up the meaning of words and concepts such as "hyperbole." As for how old I am, I had sex in a phone booth with your grandmother in 1951 the day after we graduated from high school.

  • Count how many black people are at the malt shop.

  • @alchemist4evr how about leave this old kid cartoon alone. It was still good even with complaints

  • @alchemist4evr

    A realistic amount.

  • Did kids from the 40s really have trouble with the Rudy Vallee crowd? Was showing up to school with a megaphone just asking for trouble?

  • Its great to see the different dance styles. So far I can see Lindy hop, Balboa and a bit of Jive. Any others?

  • @omegaburn Collegiate Shag?

  • Kidddies (ANYONE UNDER 50) that colorful object that appears at 13 and again at 39 is a "juke box.' In the early days they were loaded with 78s and you could call up a song for 5cents ("put a nickle in the juke box"). Now they are rare. And filled with junky noise.

An object even more rare today appears at 53. The brown box he steps into is a "phone booth" so you could talk in privacy, and without disturbing anyone with your private conversation. Quite a concept, hmm?

  • @jerseyjoe4good If you don't know what a jukebox or a phone booth is, it's not because you're under 50, it's because you're an idiot. Or you've never left the house.

  • @jerseyjoe4good You can still find jukeboxes at some places. Though I think they're 50 cents for 2-3 songs, and yes they seldom have good music. I always end up choosing songs from the movie "Grease"

  • @jerseyjoe4good I am but 18 years of age and I have this wonderful tune on a 78. Though I wish i could afford a juke box, i have to settle for my Victrolas and the Magnificent Magnavox. I would venture to guess I have a larger collection of swing and classical 78s than most people your age. Don't underestimate us young people quite yet, or at least not all of us. Nothing beats the big band era and the King of Swing!

  • Thumbs up if Salmon and Son brought you here!!!

  • Krupa gets more drumming done with a basic kit than todays rockers who seem to need forty drums and fifty cymbols to get the job done. Just sayin....

  • It's so 40's!

  • bellissimo!

  • Hop in the old jalop(y) And head for the malted shop And all the cats join in Down goes my last two bits Comes up one banana split And all the cats join in Drop your jack in the old juke box Play your favourite disc When you dance with the bobby socks You dance at your own risk Rip! Everybody swing Yeah, swing 'till the rafters ring And all the cats join in!
  • Cartoons of this sort are always fun. They fall under a sort of meta-fiction, right? Stuff like this where the drawing takes place "in-cartoon."

  • She didn't even put on a bra. Crazy.

  • @BillyCorganlikespie Yeah I know. Those free flying 40's, baby!

  • I think I remember this cartoon.

Although I could have sworn it went to the song "Rock around the clock"

  • At 4:04 the girls of today would probably want the pencil to add more and not erase it.

  • at 3:48.... Collegiate Shag!!!!! a little known dance from the era

  • Ah yes, I remember the good old days before we had pupils.

  • Looking for this short for years! Thanks YouTube!

  • The youth scene of the 1960s is just the Sears Roebucks version of the youth scene of the 40s.

  • @kristell9 I like the way you think.

  • what a bştch mom / sister. jeeeezz

  • 1:46 i want to see whats under there lol

  • I'm pretty sure that's not the Pied Pipers. Doesn't sound like them at all. Anyone know for sure?

  • i eat poop

  • 2:57 Girls with glasses seldom get passes.

  • @chris42576 You know, you could be feeding someone's complex! Whatever a 'pass' really is

  • @chris42576 ...nor girls with fat a**es [4:05]

  • Fleischer al la Disney!

  • lol at 4:03 - 4:10 that kid needs to lower his standards a little

  • buenisimo video

  • Ah.....Freddie Moore!

  • See nobody wants a girl with a big butt. Its gross.

  • @grahamley friend, you don't know my country....Brazil is a couintry where all the guys want are the big Butt Girls....

  • Disney should kept with this style.

  • Ah the joys of fitting into the crowd and ignoring and persecuting those different than you...

  • @grizabella626 That was the way things were when I was in school. Kids today are for the most part, unhealthy, unwashed, and uneducated.

  • @M1GARRAND1 - wen me dad wa a young en they wa even more unhealthy unwashed an majorly uneducated

  • @M1GARRAND1 - wen me dad wa a young en they wa even more unhealthy unwashed an majorly uneducated, kids today blaaaaaaaaaa, there all snooty lil fecks goin t university

  • @cazaleah2 wut yu tokin abut i no ho tu us a kybrod

  • .............epic?!

  • 4:05 Is the message: Don't dance with a fat girl? LOL!

  • I gotta learn some of those dance moves! :D

  • at 4:20 the kid is directly staring at her .. find out!

  • 4:04 my favorite part

  • Woah did she just do that in front of her kid lol

  • @JungleOasis I don't think that's her kid. I think that's her younger sister.

  • @Earthdragon2000 You'd be right.

  • dancing the feminist?

  • @leslykelly16 just dont be fat. case closed.

  • I WASN'T BORN WHEN THIS COME OUT , I WAS BORN 1960 ,BUT I REMEMBER WATCHING CARTOONS LIKE THIS WHEN WAS LITTLE , YOU CANT BEAT THESE OLD CARTOONS , IT WAS GOOD TO WATCH.

  • @carolinelungu no need for the caps lol

  • DTV Disney

Danny and the Juniors - At the Hop

  • Benny Goodman was a musical genious, and the Disney studios were at their peak when this was done. So happy to find this as I too have been searching for it forever. What terrific animation, and just think, Goodman had no digital recording studio and Disney had no computer-aided animation - yet perfection is what you get here.

  • Real cool..................................

  • I've been looking for this forever!!! Haven't seen it since I was a child. yay!! :)

  • Foottappin tastic..zowee.

  • Comment removed

  • Great cartoon. This is the first time I've seen it. Thanks for posting.

  • i loved this as a kid!!!!!!

  • Wow that is very funny. All The Cats Join In is an instant classic like Avatar. Just saw it on this cool site freemoviebonanza , cOM - anyways cool video!

  • When the girl's getting dressed at the beginning, she never puts on a bra. What makes me laugh about that is that I'm sure that, at the time, the censors would have considered it *more* suggestive to show her bra than to imply she was going out in public (to go DANCING) without one.

  • @taigan You're right, that is funny!

  • I wish I lived in this time.

  • i love that they're all dancing perfectly as soon as they are inside XD

  • why dont the girls have pupils... or i should ask why are they all pupil its like their robots

  • It's not just the girls, all the characters have solid eyes. That's just the animator's style.

  • You are right. That is Fred Moore's style.

  • mazing

  • I love, luv, wub this. Thank you, sir!

  • i love how the illustrator drew a fat bitch then erased her ass before the guy would dance with her. haha. how fucked was that?! this whole video was awesome.

  • @hamsan415 how messed up was it that u called her a fat bitch?

  • At 3:12 the cop seems to be more concerned about the kids speeding than he does about the one kid riding on the hood of the car.

  • ahhh those crazy 50's XD

  • @ESLinstructor1 Well, riding on the roof of a slow car is probably less dangerous than riding on the roof of a fast car. :)

  • @ESLinstructor1 It was the 40s not many cops really have much set of rules, and when they did. It was oldtimish. You know those old community likes where they'll go "Well their good kids, I guess I can ignore it"

  • hahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!incredible

  • l bet there high school was better back then...

  • So if this cartoon was made today, they would throw out someone dressed like John Travolta in "Saturday Night Fever" who was humming the Bee Gees?

  • Comment removed

  • OK. Ironic you mention Cliff Edwards though because he was the voice of Jiminy Cricket in Pinocchio.

  • wow, it's been forever since i've seen this! although i gotta say, this toon definitely went out of it's way to brain wash teens into how they were 'suppose' to look to be 'normal teens' e.g. the geeky gal never got a ride and if u had a big ass guys wouldn't look at you. although i'll admit, it was really entertaining. i think it'd be wicked to bring back bits of the culture of that era

  • The girl at the curb had this really rude look on her face, and when the car drove by she turned her whole head up like she was better than them because she had all those books. I think it had more to do with the girl being stuck up than a geek. She didn't want to go with them in the first place.

  • really? to me she looked like she was just looking up at the sky in a kinda day-dreamy/ditzy way. although that's a good possibility too.

  • The cartoon is excellent and still very entertaining but knowing what a virulent racist and anti-semite Walt Disney was keeps me from enjoying it completely. I had heard about Walt Disney's biased views and discriminatory studio policies years ago, but after I reading some books and seeing a biographical video here on YouTube on him, as a Black person, I could never look at his work without a jaundiced eye. He was a horribly hateful, ignorant man. But the cartoon's great!

  • Oh, I know, I know. But this is Benny Goodman, though and I love him XD. The CARTOON is by Disney. Right? Just close your eyes xD

  • Not to sound stupid, but I really have yet to see proof of these allegations. Rest assured, I've heard rumors, stories, etc. From both sides of the argument, and both sides have merit, but I've yet to see definable proof one way or the other. The best story I've heard is Walt was Anti-Communist/Union. But I have yet to hear of proof that Walt was Anti-Semitic.

  • this is awesome! for those of you looking for a version without vocals or sound effects, i'm not sure why - it's those things that make this song so great. it's a great song to dance with, you can even use the sound effects in your dancing. it's a huge hit at all the local swing dance clubs that i've been to (soCal). i don't know why i haven't seen the cartoon until just now :)

  • Can only find the non vocal version, anyone know where you can find the vocals???

  • Yeeaaahh..man..

    Real HOT and SASSY..

  • I looove this. I have it, minus the sound effects/voices, on my MP3 player. ^_^

  • I just LOVE this! I have it on my Ipod and lsten to it every morning after I wake up

  • I play it loud in my car. Haha

  • does anyone know where I can download this song?

  • Its just on itunes

  • Limewire. That's where I got my mp3 of it.

  • @xBroadwayDivax Sorry to say the soundtrack was a rare item. A friend ripped it off the soundtrack, but the itunes link here is *not* the correct version.

  • I always crack up @ 4:28 - 4:39!

  • LOL! Me too! Diddly-boom diddly-boom

  • this is such a fun song to dance to. it has so many breaks and pauses. not to mention it changes feel like half way through.

  • wow this is high quality animation!

  • Yeah but the dwarf guy is treated like an equal, he fits right in..you gotta give 'em points for that. Right? o.o

  • 4:27 to 4:39, I always wondered, whats the deal with that guy? LOL! Is he supposed to be any particular person/celebrity?

  • He's a 1920s Yale "collegiate" type. Back then, that look - the straw boater, the hair, the outfit, the ukelele - made for the ultimate college ladies' man. By the 50s, it was sorely outdated, so he's being tossed out for being behind the times.

  • Ah okay.. actually, I figured if he wasn't a specific celebrity then that's what he was.

  • Yeah, he's no one specific, just a generic collegiate.

  • Man!! if only.

    I think Birdie's a "JUMPIN CHICK"

  • ...and when you express your opinion, expect to get opinions back!

When you make a public statement of your opinion you are opening it up for discussion.

It doesn't make sense to get all indignant when some one disagrees with you, unless of course your goal was to foist your views on others, without critique.

  • Who are the singers?

  • I believe the woman is Peggy Lee.

  • it looks like at 1:24 the character isnt on the same plane as the jukebox is. his feet look to be up in the air but I have the feeling they arent supposed to be considering the drop shadow is in the same place relative to his foot...mainly the background foot.

Also the color of the little girl changes from a normal color to a more tan color like her sister's at one point.

The kid at 2:46 loses his shoes but in the next shot has them again.

3:35 they all look like mindless animals O_o

  • well you have to think about it in terms of the time period. These are also assumed to be the hip people at the time. Look at where they're hangin out, the malt shop? The girl is trying her best to keep her little sister outta the way cuz she's probably been watching her all day nah mean? People at that time also werent half as worried about their weight as people are now. You find that offensive...but you didnt ask where the black kids were in the short? much less the asian population!?

  • that was some sexy toon!

  • Oh - how sweet and nice

DK: Å hvor sødt og dejligt

Bjarne Hosbo Poulsen - Smørum DK

  • Cool Saddle Shoes...

  • Did I just hear a Windows XP pop at 1:55?

  • Disney made fanservice before Anime made it!

Panty shots! Shower scenes! Big butt girls!

    Ice Cream!

  • Have you seen Chris Sanders' girls? He is the Fred Moore of today.

  • i love this cartoon! I loved watching it with my grandpa. He was about the same age as the kids in this cartoon are for the time it was set in.

  • i love that at 2:56 the kids pass by the nerd with glasses and pick up their cool friends instead. also at 4:08 when the girl get's annoyed about backside being too big to attract attention so it gets trimmed down, which excites the boy very much.

you don't see such honest storytelling from disney these days...

  • It's almost too honest. Most teenagers are such idiots.

  • This is directed by Jack Kinney, who was specializing in Goofy cartoons at the time, which IMO are the best Disney cartoons.

  • Fan-fuggin-tastic.

  • Freddie Moore girls!

  • big ass sweet

  • Enjoyable!

  • Can Someone get after your gone onto youtube?

  • cool =) i luv jazzzzzz

  • its like if some hybrid of Chuck Jones or Tex Avery was working for Walt Disney...

the sad thing is, in this day and age of being afraid of offending the sensibilites of wholesome midwestern mom&pop prude, Disney would NEVER have the balls to do something as risque as this nowadays

  • It would make my day if Disney made an adult cartoon{heck if they made WW2 cartoons then why didnt they make an adult cartoon?}

  • "its like if some hybrid of Chuck Jones or Tex Avery was working for Walt Disney..."

    They called him Fred Moore!

  • Pardon me, Jack Kinney is the one responsible! He directed the Goofy cartoons.

  • Love the music and the movie!

  • Che musica stupefacente!!!

  • What do you mean? I don't understand.

  • I would hve danced with the big butt girl at 4:02... that was messed up... great cartoon though

  • Yeah, me, too.

  • I've almost seen the young brunette woman's boobs, titties, and ass when she is done with her shower before she gets dressed.

  • Well, for one thing, they should get arrested for doing those. Either that, or they should get a ticket for those, as well. LOL.

  • Technically, it's a symphony, not an orchestra...

  • its a big band and there fore neither.

  • i'm so happy to see this this cartoon!

    thanks for posting this vid!

  • I don't know what made me think about this cartoon today, but I'm so glad I found it! Except I remember there being a more modern song, maybe a remake of a popular swing song (I used to watch this on a 1980s Disney video!) Does anyone know about this version I'm thinking of?
