man, the production is intense! the guitars and drums. now this is what rock is all about!!! ace is the bomb!!!!! hope he and peter criss do something together. fuck gene simmons!!!
Ace writes in his new book, that Paul and Gene demeaningly said to Ace that if he needed any help with his solo album to give them a call.
Ace decided to have his solo album NOT be a piece of shit, so he never called them. Being the genius he is he called Eddie Kramer and Anton Fig instead.
My cousin phoned me from the studio when Kiss was recording and I got to talk to Ace and Gene. The `high` part did get brought up. He`s not really a stoner though he is a space hippy. As a character - an astronaut - he would go in the upper atmosphere and high above the planet. He found it funny it could be taken as getting high. Several of their songs are like that they have more than one meaning.
This album showed KISS that he didn't want to be the "George Harrison" of the group. So much talent, he really did put a lot of effort into this album. By far the best of the solo's!!!
@buckleygeneration Gene's solo album was kinda' crap to me. I'm one of the four people in the world who prefer Peter's solo album over Gene's. I can't decide whether I prefer Paul's solo album or Ace's. Ace's is heavy and agressive, but Paul's is catchy, fast, sometimes soft and faithful.
Paul Stanley is one of the greatest frontman of all time. But ACE'S guitar playing on this album is so way ahead of its time. This song sounds just as good as anything out today, and it was recorded 33 yrs ago. That why Paul, ACE,Gene & Peter were unstoppable in the 70's.
Paul Stanley's album was fairly decent, but I prefer Ace's album far and away. Gene's album and Peter's album were stocked with cheesy show tunes. Horrendous.
I think that Ace is making a desperate cry for help in this song. He's admitting he has problems with intoxicants, and they are more important to him than chicks. That's a bad sign.
I'm the kind of guy who likes feeling high! Don't get no more honest than that!
Love KISS but worship the spaceman. This whole album rocks, and compared to other three members, shows who has the real tallent. Don't think Gene ever got over how bad his album sucked compared to Ace. We wont even talk about Peter and Paul's Albums......only sold to complete the set! Great marketing always...
@youtoober51567 couldnt agree more about Ace!!! my hero since age 8! cant agree wit hyou regarding the solo records. Paul's was ok, very paul sounding and commercial. Gene's however was a complete embarassment. wish upon a star?!?!?! WTF Peter's was exploration into his other muscially interests. anyway LOVE LIVE THE SPACE ACE ACK!
@youtoober51567 Ace is the one to worship out of the band. He's a musician, which is more then I can say for Gene or Paul. I say musician meaning he cares about his music. He wants what the fans want. When asked about Tommy wearing HIS make-up that HE designed. He's said in multiple interviews that he's friends with the Tommy and could care less about Tommy wearing his make up, but the fans don't like it so it bothers him.
I grew up with the neighborhood kids listening to KISS when I was about 4 years old. Seriously. I "grew out" of the "phase" around age 12. I had no idea what these guys really meant with some lyrics at the time, but the music inspired me. Now, being a musician, I've recently gone back to pick up where I left off and I'm trippin' out how many of these songs I still remember from when I was so young! Amazing music for an amazing time in my life. Long live their music for future generations!
Ace 's album was the best of the four by far..... It shows why he was upset with Kiss at the time. He had alot of good songs he wanted on the Kiss records. Great album , way ahead of its time when it was released in 1978..............
This Solo is the best of the '78solo albums.. it still Rock as a modern Rock!!! Long live to Ace and thanks for the fantastic songs on this record

Top notch album. The 2 things that stand out are Ace' leads and Antons drumming. The production is amazing.

@Chrisdrumz Eddie Kramer, production. He worked with Hendrix. Also, he did KISS' best records: Rock and Roll Over, Love Gun, and Alive 1 and 2.

Best songs, best musicianship, best production and best vocals. Easily the KING of the 4 solo albums.

My favourite song out of all of the solo albums. I'd rank the albums like this:
MASTERFUL
1. Ace Frehley
2. Gene Simmons
GOOD
3. Paul Stanley
SHIT
4. Peter Criss.

p.s. one of the first albums I heard in '78 was Ace's solo LP! This tune still delivers!
