I gotta say i've avoided close to 20 wrecks because i pay attention to the road and i always take quick glances at other drivers and tend to predict worst case scenarios while driving near them. i've had to jump off road near all of those times because they never notice their surroundings, i've bumped my head a few times or nudged my door a bit but i am thankful to god that not me or anyone else has been killed. seatbelts, no cell phones, watching those around you, etc. it can save you

Some jerk in his car texting almost ran straight in front of my car and sharp braked it just as I was moving out a car park. He looked at me like it was me who almost did it. I dragged his ass out of his car then took his mobile phone and shoved it down his stupid stinkin throat! he was gargling badly and was clearly choking which I enjoyed watching so I said "try texting now asshole" as he squirmed on the floor gasping for air. This didn't really happen as you can guess but its coming.

We all have to face reality. There is a new generation of drivers who actually believe that they are NOT REQUIRED to devote 100% of their attention and concentration to what's happening on the road. They believe that those of us who DO pay attention to the road are responsible for their actions. I think they should make some sort of cellphone inhibitor that doesn't allow people make calls/text while in their vehicles, wouldn't this solve the problem?

@thesillysock yes you are right they should do something like a cell phone inhibitor so the cell phones don' t work in the vehicle. They have the device that you have to blow in to start your engine for drivers who drink I am sure they could come up with something that would stop the cell phone from working once the engine is started...

I once saw some idiot putting on makeup at a stop light, which makes some sense, it's better than doing it going down the road, but not with TWO FIRE TRUCKS AND AN AMBULANCE WITH THEIR LIGHTS AND SIREN ON RIGHT BEHIND THIS CAR! I find it interesting that of those millions on people on the cell phone.. how many of those are the police... public safety officers.... HOW many I have seen that I'd like to pull over and write THEM the ticket... the companies that make this all happen.. be it At&t, Virgin, NetZero, Verizon... everyone of them makes money on cell phone USAGE, not the phones themselves. In the process of all these laws about cell usage while driving, Bluetooth arrives.. and every SINGLE one can do it.

My boyfriends Mom made him promise that he will never text and talk while driving and he promised he wont. But he still did it. So i bought him a blue tooth, everything is voice activated. Problem solved. I wish that there were blue tooth thAT can text for you too

I always thought texting was for stupid people, but I was riding in a car with my roommate one time and my roommate completed med-school, made the Dean's List every year he was in college. Probably one of the smartest people in the world...or at least I thought so. I looked up as he was driving and saw him texting, eyes on the cellphone, one hand on the wheel...on the interstate highway doing like 65 mph. I was BLOWN AWAY. Naturally I yelled at him and he was so embarrassed. It was a huge shock.

@rleary1 It's not fair to take away usefull tecnology because of dumb assholes out there using them while they drive. They should punish those more strictly who use them while driving instead. Think about it, it's a distraction, eating while driving can be distracting, make up, looking over paperwork. I hate people who abuse privelidges, I wish they would all die as soon as possible, and never be remembered.

@rleary1 Ok, we both have highest rated comments. In BC, it was outlawed 2010 Jan, so dunno what happens in your place. What I like to do though (as I drive a White Crown Vic, the cop car) is when I see somebody texting, I honk my horn and sometimes they think I am a cop.

@glitch123heydude I'm in SW TX USA Most citizens driving in our city (pop: 88K) are on their cell phone.The ONLY Law we have is 'You can't talk on your phone if you're within a School Block'.Other than that everybody driving a vehicle in my city (including Police) is TALKING on the Phone.I haven't heard of anybody Trying to introduce a law to prevent this? Me (& my kids that drive) are the very few number in our city that don't TALK on their phone while driving a vehicle. Outlaw all phone use!

here in alberta they passed a law not to text or use any handheld phone while driving well what did i see the other day two cops in their truck passing me driver talking on his cell and the other texting sometimes i wonder who listens to these laws

There is also one where they show you the text but he didn't die, instead they show him sittin in his wheelchair. Yep, after several commercials of that telling you they die then they show that one, really hits you a little different than the standard that texting can kill you

There is a good commercial where they show you a partial text message like "headin over to" then tell you that's what was found on the cell phone of a driver who was killed in a accident. Btw, they are real texts and real accidents.

Any hand held device is illegal where I live, it's 4 points on your license (16 points and you lose it) and a $400 fine, yet I see 1 of every 10 drivers still doing it. 1 in 10 may not sound like much but that's only the ones I see, not the ones who may have just got off the phone, just about to get on or just hide it well enough you don't notice they are texting.

A dumbass (female) was texting while driving in the lane next to me. She almost hit me, so I got pissed and called the highway patol and followed her DUMBASS until they pulled her over. Once he had her pulled over, I got out and talked to him. My stupid ass state does not have a law prohibiting TWD. He said we can file a report and that's it. Atleast I wasted some of her time and maybe she will THINK next time before endangering her life and others.
