Secondhand market would decrease in size if the games wouldn't be so damn expensive compared to what they are worth after a month or sometimes a week. It cost more than the pc version but you have less controll.

In my opinion, tv games need to cost less than the PC versions so that whole family can enjoy but as long as the gamepublisers earn money, they won't lower the cost. And if the sales are bad, they rather blame piracy or secondhand market.

5:00 - 5:20 I don't believe that second-hand console game distribution damages the market, the money for the game sold has already been put into the market at the original purchase. e.g. a friend giving another friend a game, there's a chance that friend wouldn't have bought it anyways. I'd say the point about betas giving an unfair advantage is unfounded. If you preorder a game you get it before someone who doesn't preorder. That's exactly the same as buying it after launch. The sooner you buy the game, the sooner you get to play it.

It's like, (my predicted) outrage over Battlefield 3 and the whole horrible battlelog nonsense where you MUST be logged in to a WEBSITE in order to even play the game or change options..

The pc sales will no doubt suffer amongst people who also own a console (i'll be getting it for my 360 due to this), but the devs and publishers wont understand why. They wont understand their own idiocy in design decisions.

They'll just say "hm, pc games arent popular, lets ditch it".

@Baleur Battlelog is not a big deal. it removes a step even connecting you straight to the servers and allowing you to multitask really. The number of times EA was retarded on BC2 i can't even count!

The only reason I'm really responding is because the graphics will be so superior on PC and the controls are far superior (coming from a former FPS console exclusive gamer turned PC fps player).

@Baleur Exept battlelog is one of the best things that they put in bf3. In bf2 when you where going to play with your friends you had to go to like bf2hq.com or something, find ur friend on the ranking and if ur lucky, it will say which server he is on. For a game like bf3 it will probably be the other way around, since their largest audience is still pc players since grafics are so much better on pc.

@Baleur Yeah... definitely wont be happening in canada. We pay out the ass for bandwidth usage. The ISPs would have to change their prices, for downloading bluray quality to be feasible. Plus our ISPs throttle internet connection - particularly peer to peer connections. Which pisses me off to no ends, because it also sees most online games (namely FPSs) as p2p, so we lag :/ *sigh*

Thankfully I'm at least getting something free and additional to Batman: Arkham City, but it comes with a shop :) I bet shops around the world might have similar stuff going on, but I haven't heard that much about it. Czech xZone really tries a lot and they often pack additional things to preordered games, from free DLCs and in-game content to some other accessories mostly, still, quite lovely :) And grats to the winners! One thing to consider with simultaneous launches is the engine used. Dungeon defenders is unreal engine 3. It is a tried and true engine. Rage is a brand new engine that's never been used before. The rage problems (other than the graphics sucking) are understandable.

I'd like to point out that there's a larger market for used video games than used movies, but in fact, movie makers hate movie rentals, which is basically the "used game sales" of the film industry. I remember Hollywood being in an uproar over RedBox, which rented movies for $1 at one time.

It's not so much about used DVDs as it is movie rentals. But there's no way to stop it because the law is on the side of the rental companies.

I never buy used and I buy a lot of games, but I believe its complete nitpicking by the publisher to bash on second hand purchase. Its not a loss for them directly (after all the game has already been paid for) and if the person who picks up the used game decides he likes it, he'll buy their dlc or make a new account in their game.

Used games can be used as advertisement as well, after all its usually the kids or the students aka the future generation well funded gamers, that picks up used game
