I hope that the party does get one MP elected. That will mean strong representation and the way it was before 2003 when the PC party and the Alliance party merged. It will mean the PCs will reclaim their traditional areas of support they had which is Atlantic Canada and Quebec. Those areas are ignored by the Harper Conservatives and would get strong representation from the new Progressive Canadian party which are the true successors of the old Progressive Conservative party. Thank you!
What people on here do not understand is there is a party that is between the Liberals and Conservatives that exists called the Progressive Canadian party and they are centre-right or liberal on social issues and conservative on economic issues. They are the successors of the old PC party and you should join them if you want the PC party of old to return. If even one PC candidate gets elected it will be like it was before which is strong representation for the party in Quebec and eastern canada.
Even though I'm a NDPer, I find it disappointing that the PCs no longer exist. Today's conservatives are far right, the PCs were centre-right, and now these voters have to choose if they hate the cons, or the libs less. When we had the NDP, the Libs, the PCs, and the Social Credit/Reform parties all ideologies had significant representation, now the centre-right has lost theirs, and even though I don't agree with them they deserve a voice hopefully no left merger otherwise it will get worse
Given that a majority of Harper's new MP's come from Ontario, I think it's the Western Conservatives who should have more to worry about in their government. Harper united the right, but his most compelling achievement so far was to moderate them to the centre. We'll see how long that lasts for now he has a majority.
It was a Proud Party til you got to LYIN'Brian. He and Old Karl H CONspired against Joe Clark. Joe was TOO Honest for the Bankers and the Corps,so they Got Rid of Joe and Installed the Easily Bought Mulroney. Don't put that bastard who CONNED 2 Million from Canadians in as a Part of the PROUD PC Party,He Not MacKay Destroyed the PCs. Little Petey Just dug the grave and the Crypt Keeper Harper just SMIRKED.
@suzieq0452 Thank you for your response. I would agree that Brian Mulroney (BM) is a very subjective pick for this video. Several would certainly disagree with choosing him based on the ongoing investigation into his business dealing while in office. I would agree with what you have said about Joe Clark. No love lost between he and Brian. But I chose BM for what I believe to be is record of trying to do what he believed was in the best interest of the country. I like your theory at the end .
@TakeBackTheRight I also find BM to be a bit of an enigma. He was PM for 9 years and won two majority Elections. The county seemed to want him at the time, but boy did they ever abandon ship on him. Never seen the like either before or since. Poor Kim Campbell Was given the Captaincy of a sinking ship, and sink it did. Under Jean Charest, the party may have survived and rebuilt. But Petey made a deal with David Orchard for Votes at the National convention on the condition of no Merger with...
@TakeBackTheRight ....Harper and the Alliance Party. Peter agreed, won the convention and turned around and betrayed the the Progressive Conservative party. It's quite probable that BM tried to feather his own nest while in power, and he certainly did alienate most Canadians with some of his unpopular strategies and failed attempts at bringing Quebec into the constitutional fold. But he alienated himself trying to achieve certain goals for the sake of the country. Peter was just a traitor.
