Cenk is such an idiot. Lower numbers are more severe in the DEFCON system. We might be at "DEFCON 28" if we were being threatened by koalas and chia pets.
@michalchik That is debatable. Assassination can be an instrument of terrorism, but this doesn't seem to be the case. The Israelis are kiling these scientists with the intention set back the Iranian nuclear program, not to sow terror. Mind you, I don't think they are in the right by doing so...
@ObssesedNuker It is arguable I agree, but the secondary effects of terrorizing the rest of the scientists in the program and the use of a method outside of war that does not discriminate against killing civilians, and the use of a method that maximizes horror as opposed to a bullet or poison, all accentuates the horror. I think this really is terrorism.
Even by Irans own polling statistics, close to 15% of the country doesn't support even a peaceful nuclear energy program in the country. I wouldn't be so quick to point fingers until we have all the facts. I mean are you seriously saying that those Iranians who oppose the nuclear program and would be thrown in prison or executed for saying this publicly and who are tired of the cripiling economic sanctions have no motivation to do this themselves.
Actually all of Iran's Arab neigbors are nervous about their getting the Bomb, though they won't state so publicly, so don't just assume that its US or Israel by default. And those inspectors your talking about weren't even allowed into the country until a short time ago and even then were only shown what the Iranians wanted them to see, so they didn't have the complete picture of Iran's nuclear program.
I like how there is arguments on which is the better way to fuck Iran sideways. How about you people instead come up with ways to make western people come to more peaceful terms instead of propagandizing, warmongering, and stealing of other countries resources/enforcing our own "Freedom & Democracy" ways instead of their own self-governing. What we are sadly is the worlds bully that can "borrow money" never to be re-payed apparently and attack who we please as long as its "ok" by our government.
Why does Cenk insist on setting up false equivilances? First let's be frank: both the UN report and the IAEA say that Iran is enriching U235 to 50% - not quite weapons grade but certainly above the 5-20% range for civilian purposes. That being said, these scientists are participating in an ILLEGAL weapons program... not exactly the same things as guys in Los Alamos. The only unforunate part is these men are probably working on it against their will and have died because of it.
The fact is we don't know all the facts. IF the scientist involved here was indeed working on a nuclear weapons program I have a hard time getting worked up about this. He is working for the military industrial complex and is a legit target if our goal is to prevent nuclear build up of an "enemy" state. Surely that is better than an all out war, or worse yet a nuclear confrontation? If this succeeds in preventing a nuclear armed Iran I think it is a price worth paying unfortunately.
Lemme pull some out some kewl quotes from Iranian ambassador Soltanieh to the IAEA, "Israel must be wiped off the map of the world, and god willing....", or, "we shall soon experience a world without the United States and Zionists". If I was the Isreali president Shimon Peres, and Iran openly stated that there single goal in life is to wipe Isreal off the earth, and at the same time they begin to develop a "nuclear energy program", your damn right I might take some affirmative action....
I doubt this is the US and really hope it wasnt. Despite them working on enriching uranium, it wasnt those scientists fault. They were innocent and following orders, they shouldnt have been killed. Israel your digging yourselves a hole and need to stop. Depending on whos President next here, dont be surprised if your all alone.
@Melexonitrate I don't agree that they are "innocent". They may be doing what they believe to be right, but it does not make them innocent any more than your average soldier is innocent. IF they are developing nuclear weapons they are responsible for their actions even if they are "just following orders." Unfortunately nuclear scientists cannot escape responsibility for their actions any more than a general.
@rastamasta91 Which ever person or country assassinated the scientists, the only thing they are really doing is slowing them down. They will produce nuclear weapons, whether it's this year or 5 years. They could always buy a nuke from Russia, When pressure increases that option might be more and more viable as time goes on. In my opinion these were useless killings that are more counterproductive than productive. Killing brings more killing.
@rastamasta91 Crippling the countries economy is a far better form of way to make sure they do not get nukes. But then again Russia and China may step up and help them. With Russia, China, and other middle eastern countries in play. This isnt just Iran and Israel. This is more like , half the world VS the other half of the world.. Killing people (scientists) on the enemies side is an act of war. Sadly. They need to step up covert non physical measures instead of killing.
@Melexonitrate Frankly I'm not sure that crippling the country's economy is a "better" way. I'm sure that the people who will suffer most will be the truly "innocent" and vulnerable, unlike the scientists knowingly participating in a nuclear weapons program.
@rastamasta91 I personally think It's a great way, Most of the "sanctions" we are putting on them are boycotts. If a country is hurting for money with their people, It's up to the country to protect them. If they let their own people die just to make a nuclear weapon instead of taking care of them, shame on them. All of their deaths and suffering are on that country's leaders, not us. In the bible it says all nations will be against Israel. They really only have one ally left.
@Melexonitrate Sanctions are one way. However, I am not sure how effective it will be, and whether or not "we" are solely to blame is irrelevant to me if it causes wide spread suffereing. We shall see with time. My position is simply that targetted assassinations shouldn't necessarily be off the table, and that they are preferable to full scale war.
Yet another perfect example of the problem with Obama... We hated it under Bush, now we're warmongering liberty-hating sumummabitches who can't wait to hear about more muslims being killed.
Sickening. STOP LISTENING TO OBAMA! Go back a few decades, read up your history on progressive movements, policies & politicians, then look back at Obama, & see the ugly.
@oogey123 You do realise that Henry Kissinger encouraged Iran to develop nuclear weapon during the Shah's reign?
If the same scientist was killed because he was possibly helping a country develop weapons to destroy the world as we know it
*face palm*
The US is the only country to have used nuclear weapons. Its criminal invasion of Iraq has left regions of that country with radiation levels higher than those in Hiroshima. It..why am I bothering? That is just wrong on so many levels.
@redgeorgieredgeorgie I tried to come back here and read my previous comment but for some reason my original comment is either not on here or I cannot find it haha. Could you refresh my memory?
America is the only country EVER to use NUCLEAR WEAPONS on CIVILIANS and then they have the nerve to stop other countries from getting more than a slingshot and stones.
give Iran nukes, we can send it back, we have the tech, Iran has the tech to do it, Iran even announced it, want your drone? nope. stop spying Iran lol. oh btw America you started the cold war right? oh hmmm. Iran > ally then Israel
Nuclear energy can make a nation free from oil which is controlled by a few corporations.
Every vehiclea on earth can be cheaply modified to burn ammonia which is cheaper than gas, with the energy from nuclear you can make fuel out of air and water.
Lastly. Israel has a right to survive and defend itself against rogue states. Killing enemy combatants who help rogue states develop nuclear weaponry is not the same thing as killing just any ordinary civilian. It is an act of self defense by a nation (likely Israel), to defend itself against another nation that is seeking Israel's destruction. This isn't total war here. It's nothing like total war, these were precise military targets - the braintrusts of Iran's Nuclear Bomb program.
More over. Has anyone watched the Iranian dictator give speeches... He is more smug than all of the right wingers combined. He is clearly looking for a fight, because he operates the same way schoolyard bullies operate. I prefer logic to destroy my opponents than emotional smugness. Iran is clearly the aggressor here, and if you pull out of the data, especially with Hamas and Al Queda terrorist links. It's ugly, and it all says one thing. You can't trust Iran or its leaders, ever.
If there is one thing I can say with 100% conviction, is this: Iran can not be trusted with Nuclear Power of any kind. Israel knows this, the Pentagon knows it. Many world leaders also know this.
Developing nuclear weapons isn't done by "civilians", at least in the conventional sense of the word "civilian". Nuclear power is a threat to us all, and those who develop it for rogue states should be treated as enemy combatants. Last I checked, Iran IS a rogue state.
Mr. Gingrich , front of american cameras in natioal tv telling people we should take iranian nuclear scientists out . anyone can tell me meaning of this ? four of them have been taken out what is next .torrorisizing students because they have test books on their hands.. these kind of nonsence has to be stopped .it is wrong .Isreal ( a nation in arab homeland) allowed to have nuclear bomb but iran is not allowed to have it for peacefull purposes I am not irabian gov.supporter but what is rit
how the hell is this terrorism? Their goal is not to hurt civilians or spread terror. The goal is to keep Iran from getting the bomb. Whether it's right or wrong is another discussion. But it's absolutely not terrorism.
@oogey123 The "political aim" is to deny Iran the ability to pursue nuclear capabilities. Assassination is simply the mode of terrorism. Calling it an assassination does not exclude it from being an act of terror.
If a foreign power were to systematically murder a strategic subset of US scientists, would you not consider that an act of terror?
@brandnutopian So allowing Iran, a rouge nation known for its instability, to develop nuclear weapons is okay? The US, Israel or whoever did this saved the world from a whole lot of trouble in the future. If a foreign power were to kill a US scientist for no other reason than to just kill him, yeah, it's terrorism. If the same scientist was killed because he was possibly helping a country develop weapons to destroy the world as we know it, then no, I would not consider that terror.
@oogey123 If they did it with no other reason but to kill them, that would make it murder. These definitions of terrorism, murder, assault, etc, aren't arbitrary ones to which you attribute meaning at will. They're legal definitions.
By definition, the systematic killing of Iranian scientists to prevent Iran from obtaining the bomb is terrorism. It is a political act.
Gloss it over with a much bullshit as you wish, it's terrorism.
@brandnutopian Most terrorists don't target people who develop nuclear bombs for rogue states.
This was clearly a textbook example of a military target. There is absolutely nothing "civilian about a nuclear weapons program", especially when said nuclear weapons program is being developed in Iran.
That said, Iran should have went solar & wind for energy (which we all should be doing). We can trust them with that. They went nuclear because they want to build bombs with it, pure and simple.
@FuriousPumpkin lolz you do have the bombs dont u ? who killed your scientists huh ? even communist USSR didnt lower itself to that level and they were your enemies and didnt want you to make new weapons
there is somthing called international laws. you scums are breking every law in the iniverse and acting like barbarians
Why do you mention Hamas and Hizbullah? Are you that ignorant that thinks they have the ability to attack US? Donkey! Hamas and Hizbullah are resistence movements! They would never harm americans and have no problem against americans, UNLIKE americans who send their tax payers to kill lebanese and palestinian children. AMERICA COUNTRY OF IGNORANCE NO1
@hint0122 yea sure thats why we are 1.5 billions living in peace and harmony b4 USA came near u junk bastard
you are the killers and you blame your killings on us too. and we will not fight each others we will follow you and take our revenge. we LOVE each other and in the STREETS not your filthy media we say to each others "Americans bombing people and claiming sucide bomber"
we will come after you you bastards and you will pay for every blood you
bs. the middle east is filled with people who only have that two things they hate more then each other is the US and Israel. the shiite killing sunni, sunni killing Shiite, both killing kurds. if you want to come after us, go ahead and try, you will use either way and end up being buried with pigs
This assassination could have been carried out by Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Dubai or any other regional player or Sunni governed country that is trying to stem Iranian influence.
Cenk - i follow you religiously, but you are so wrong on this issue. Why then US never rescued Indians from Somali pirates? It is called "gun and butter" poilicy. Pirates and terrorists ae on CIA payroll. Capture enemues, brelease them while beating war drums, and sway people to respect USA. Mussion accomplished.
@JOEtheHOTTIE No. Murder is murder. If Iranian agents killed American scientists on the exact same premises, you Americans would be rattling sabres in favour of war.
"Better them than us"? What? Seriously, this is just sanctimonious bullshit. How can you be so callous about it? You are telling me that you put no value whatsoever for people who want to live in peace and for this you advocate murder. What war? When was this war declared and where are the documents that attest to it?
DEFCON 28 Cenk? Assuming that actually existed, that would be favourable. The DEFCON scale is ordered inversely with 5 being the least severe and 1 being the most. It's a common mistake to assume the opposite. (/pedant)
Even if Iran doesn't want a bomb now it could be doing preparations for future projects. I know that they are refining Uranium and that could always be funneled into nuclear weapons. Frankly that's a risk I don't want to take.
@IMPALEXANDERAVG No, dipshit. Uranium has to be enriched to weaponized grade and even at that, they need to be mounted on a fissile vehicle and that vehicle needs to be mounted on a compatible missile that does not degrade the uranium due to heat.
The enrichment of uranium at 5% is required for nuclear fuel. Understandably Iran want to have their own facilities for doing this. 20-25% is for fuel plates required to develop radioisotopes for cancer therapy. Now get lost, dipshit.
Why is Israel ALWAYS the bad guy in TYT? No I'm sure the Iranians just want nuclear power. I'm sure religious fanatics who think that they go to heaven when they become martyrs for Allah won't start a nuclear exchange.
And the whole wounding the wives thing is more TYT bullshit. Israel tried to only kill the scientists but collateral evidence is unavoidable. Muslims just go into schools and start shooting knowing Israel is too moral to kill children.
No one has been discussing the possibility that Iran killing it's own scientist; perhaps because they refuse to do what he government wants them to do? It's at least worth discussion I think.
These attacks are likely being committed by either the U.S, U.K, Israel,Saudi Arabia or Iraq since all of these nations fear a nuclear Iran. I seriously doubt that S.Arabia or Iraq are competent enough to successfully accomplish these attacks and remain undetected. That leaves only the U.K, U.S or Israel. Given that Israel has used assassination squads against their enemies in the past there is a strong basis for believing that they are behind these attacks today.
In our rocket launch base in Alcântara-MA, in Aug 2003, died 21cientistas mega blast with our VLS and even today (2012) it is suspected that it also involved, but evidence ... there's the rub.
What a suprise, out come the Israel haters. Assholes, shut up and piss off to Hammered where you belong. Back on topic, show me evidence that the US or Israel did it. I'll bet you that you can't. All you are going on is the accusations of the Iranians. (i'm not saying that Israel or the US didn't do it but the Iranians laid the blame on Israel like the moment the assassination took place, no real investigation or anything) Seriously thats all the say whenever something bad happens to them.
@MajorBookworm100 Actually, because the patterns show similarity to past murders of Iranian nuclear scientists (Which, mind you, have been investigated and point without a doubt to Tamir Pardo's change of policies), the conclusion remains rather obvious.
It has nothing to do with hating Israel. It's about curtailing Iranophobia and portraying outright murder as some kind of desired hitjob of terrorists. This man had a family and lived a peaceful life, so you better back off.
@arsacesofconcobar Ok, fair enough, I didn't know about the previous investigations. And yes, Iranophobia is a problem, but so is it's loony regime. And there is a lot of Isreal Hating in the comments, which is what i was talking about.
@MajorBookworm100 I don't hate Israel. The mounting evidence so far however point at this being the work of Mossad. This counter-productive act of murder has only resulted in one outcome: Global Iranian outrage. Some even cite it as a reason why America and Israel called off the joint exercise that was to follow the next days.
Such acts of violence and provocation justify a speedy acquiring of nuclear arms. A nuclear-armed Iran would entirely be the making of the West.
Cenk, don't be so naive. Of course Iran is working on a bomb. A civilian nuclear power project is not something that is run by the military, in secret, in underground bunkers and shit. Combined with advancing Iranian long and medium range missile technology it doesn't take a genius to figure out.
@JCRF this is only more reason for Iran to build a nuke. Iran should protect themselves even if that means nuking israel and USA out of self-defense. This nuke program is only an excuse to attack IRan. Israel and facist has always been an enemy of Iran and other middleastern countries. Just look in what state the middle east is.
@erdal0 THINK about what you just said. You are saying Iran should nuke the US or Israel if they get a bomb. Iran... A despotic, abusive theocracy with a madman as its leader and a council of old Islamic extremist Ayatollahs as its moral compass. A place where citizens are shot dead during small protests and women are stoned to death on little to no evidence. A place where the people are crushed under its leadership. Let them have a nuke? Pull your head out of your ass, please.
@JCRF Well, america has g-bay where it tortures people with trail. Americans killed 1million iraqi people and countless muslim people. America has a track record of attacking countries and terrorizing the world and is the only country that whiped off a city of the map killing countless humans, young and old. And don't forget what the americans did to the natives and black race.
I think Iran are the good guys compared to Americans.
@erdal0 Dude, go move to Iran then. Enjoy your repression. I am always interested in a discussion on these issues but you seem to be completely on the side of Iran. Iran being a country the entire world is looking at with extreme concern. Please try to understand what exactly you just said you about them being 'good guys'. Fucking unbelievable.
@JCRF they are defending their country. That is why Iran is the good guy. I don't agree with Iran but they have the right to defend their country at all costs. America has a black history. A lot of killing and massacres. America should give back the land to the natives and pay compensation. You guys are nuked Japan. Iran didn't attack a country for thousands of years. yes i'm with Iran on this one.
@erdal0 Not even most Iranians agree with you. The majority is opposed to their extremist government and the direction they are heading. But I'm glad to see you've outed yourself as a complete nutcase.
btw, ALL countries have a dark history. Please think about things now. Or else you will be trapped in the feuds of the past. p.s Go fuck yourself
@JCRF well russia and china agrees with me. They will support the rights of the iranians to protect themselves and their people. So who is the nutcase now? Americans killed the natives, attacked almost every country in the world. Killed millions in middle-east and asia. Killed, raped the black race. Nuked whole cities and killed who families in japan. I think you american facist need to sit down or else the nations of this world will finish you.
Your whole post implies that America is a special case for just about everything. So Japan suddenly had it coming because the US were attacked?
So if Iran is attacked by the US, by this logic, Iran has the right to nuke the shit out of America.
Seriously, I am glad you are president over jack shit. With citizens like yourself abundant, some of you make out America to be the next incarnation of Nazi Germany. Who needs Godwin's law anymore?
you sound like someone going through life with your elevator stuck at ground level!
obviously any Country attacked has a right to defend itself by whatever means possible. Iraq had a right to fight back in 2003 but the problem was it didn't have the means by which to do so.
any attack on Iran would be preemptive and Iran would not be able to fight back. Japan was an empire much more powerful than Iran ever will be but it met doom at the hands of a super power.
@genie0390 Well, I'm not here to impress you, so go ahead and take the stairs.
You overlook one thing though: What was America's casus belli for invading Iraq? Weapons of mass destruction. Where are these weapons of mass destruction? You invaded and destroyed that country for nearly 9 years and you think nobody knows of this gigantic war-crime and insult to Iraqi sovereignty?
Japan? What? Did an Iranian guy ass-fuck your mom or something? What do you have against peace?
finally, you explain your delusional idiotic views,..you live in Sweden probably sharing a basement suite with "underbjorn", munching Swedish meatballs with him!
Anyone living in Sweden doesn't have any clue about wars and what it takes to protect a Nation. Sweden has always been a neutral bunch allowing others to rid the planet of demons saving their asses in the process
there is little doubt that a Country using suicide attacks as a strategy would not use nuclear weapons
@JCRF You mean atheist liberal Iranians such as myself, didn't you, you buffoon. Do us all a favour and don't speak for us Iranians, especially us exile-Iranians. We do not support an invasion of Iran.
In fact, we would rather appreciate it if you got off our backs and stopped making things miserable for common folk. You're seriously not helping out. Leave Iran's social problems to us, we have our channels. It's not a casus belli for the US to exploit.
"Leave Iran's social problems to us, we have our channels. It's not a casus belli for the US to exploit."
the analogy here is a relative of an insane, violent mental patient armed to the teeth with automatic weapons, threatening his neighbors, telling them it's only a family matter, leave him alone, don't call the police
obviously your being a liberal means you're trying to grasp reality but your misty eyes and delusional mind are not assisting
@JCRF You implied it, with the black-and-white rhetoric of the world watching Iran as if it was a belligerent nation that would unleash nuclear pandemonium at will.
Just because Iranians don't like the theocracy, does not mean we are turncoats who would suddenly sell out the country for peanuts to appease "Western" aspirations.
It's like implying the OWS-movement supports an invasion on US soil, just because they want social equality and the abolishing of the NDAA and SOPA.
@JCRF What entire world? The Russians assisted the Iranians with their nuclear programme, and Iran maintains a brisk trade throughout the Middle East, Central Asia, India, China and the Mediterranean.
Right now, more and more countries are expressing solidarity with Iran's inalienable right to develop peaceful nuclear technology. You haven't seen the carbon-dioxide pollutions of down-town Tehran. Take your ass out of your US-centric world view, you are becoming increasingly belligerent.
@JCRF What kind of an argument is that? "If you don't like the US, move to Iran and enjoy your repression". That's kindergarten rhetoric. Would you tell this to the anti-war movement too?
I mean the fact is, you pulled the human rights card, but couldn't account for the fact that America is guilty of doing precisely the same shit too. When you got called out for doing this, you didn't hesitate to say "Go move to Iran".
That's black and white reasoning. Remember Iraq and those WMDs?
@underbjorn Stoning is part of Islamic law which is strictly enforced in Iran. Only recently has a moratorium been placed on it, but since then several sentences have still been handed down. It is still on the books.
@JCRF No. The moratorium on stoning was laid out already in 2002, which worked well for secular law-makers, enabling them to remove stoning altogether from the penal code formally in 2009. You are twisting facts into falsehoods.
Show me these administered stoning sentences that occurred post-2002.
Stoning has never been widely practiced in Iran and only a few cases have actually led to execution of stoning, most were turned into other penalties.
And regardless, using that as a point of Iran's nuclear programme is an appeal to emotional xenophobia of "the savage other". The United States still executes people as well, just as barbaric in my eyes to be stoned as be wiped out by a long-range drone or pepper-sprayed to death in police custody.
@JCRF And with the NDAA and SOPA, America is such a haven of democracy. The US has left Iraq in disaster and Afghanistan is not exactly a success saga. You have to be pretty damned blind to advocate aggressive war against Iran, a nation of 75 million people, on the basis of suspected weapons of mass-destruction.
And gee, isn't that a familiar story? Yes, if the US seriously considers attacking Iran, that country has an obligation to protect its citizens. A nuclear deterrent would do.
@arsacesofconcobar I never advocated war with them, again you are talking to yourself. Show me where I said we should go to war with them.
I believe them going nuclear is a terrible thing to world stability, and that's all I said. That is my opinion, I don't speak for any country, just for myself. So spare me the attacks on the US, I'm not even American.
@JCRF And why is that such a terrible thing to world stability? Pakistan has had them officially since the test at the Chagai Hills. Hundreds of nukes. India has them. Since Operation Smiling Buddha. Hundreds of nukes. North Korea has them. Israel has them. Hundreds and some of them even H-bombs.
None of those countries signed the NPT. And yet, you live your life like usual. Every day. You don't really even give a shit about it.
So far you've spread misinformation; give peace a chance.
@JCRF Iran does not have long-range missiles. In fact none of Iran's current ballistics support the mounting of a fissile vehicle.
CIA reports consistently point out that Iran has no nuclear weapons, nor has the capacity to develop them. Even Leon Panetta reluctantly admitted this.
Now, if somebody attacked Iran, you would probably piss and moan about the fact that they have means to self-defence, wouldn't you, you sanctimonious fuck. US exceptionalism is the problem.
Iran is controlled by religious mainiacs who want to convert everyone in the world and kill anyone who will not. THE AYATOLLAH WANTS TO CONVERT OR KILL YOU!!
Iran is developing a nuke so they can ATTACK THE REST OF THE MIDDLE EAST!! IRAN WANTS TO NUKE ISRAEL!!
NUKE IRAN TODAY!!
We don't want nuclear weapon proliferation, the US is dismantling their own nukes. Nuking Iran now will deter other extremists countries from trying to make nukes.
The jewish people should get rid of benny the bum,he is exhausting the patience of the world and fooling less and less people every day.Terrorist state.
@genie0390 False. History shows that Iran has not invaded or launched any aggressive wars since the early Qajar era, which was a good bit over two centuries ago.
Iran as a nation does not differ in the matter of self-preservation. You really should stop making this shit up. I've been an Iranian exiled dissident all my life, but there is no way anyone rational will ever agree with you.
@genie0390 No. It does not. Just because you say they don't, doesn't mean it's true. Provide evidence that speak of anything otherwise, or be quiet.
And what do you mean Iran is driven by hatred of the Jews? The largest minority of Jews live in Iran, numbering over 25,000 individuals and they are represented in the Iranian parliament. You're just spouting fabrications now.
Nobody agrees with you, because you say stupid things with the agenda of war-mongering. Why do you want war?
@genie0390 No, we are not in agreement; the difference is, my motivations are objective and grounded on fact. You however regurgitate Fox News rhetoric. Iran has no nuclear weapons and can not develop nuclear weapons. The CIA reports have confirmed this for several years and recently Leon Panetta reiterated this fact.
You are therefore fear-mongering.
And no, the parliament does wield some power; Iran is not the same as it was 15 years ago. Times change and you ought to follow it.
I hold that Iran is a threat because I watch and regurgitate Fox News? So, are you telling me that other left wing media like MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, NPR, NY Times etc have no problem with Iran's nuclear program? You are either willfully blind or are trying to cause mischief.
I still don't know why you're in exile (obviously in a bubble shielded from reality) given your stance on current day Iran? You should go back!
@genie0390 Those media outlets are not leftist on anyone's spectrum outside of the US. You obviously have not read Salon.com or anything written by real journalists, like Glenn Greenwald, or Seymour Hersch.
that goes far in explaining Europe's current economic problems. With that kind of mindset it's little wonder that communism, Marxism, Nazism, Fascism all evolved in Europe.
@genie0390 Actually, Sweden is doing quite fine, because we don't have the same problems with corruption and embezzlement you Americans do; we have institutions that conduct financial audits both for small and large businesses, as well as banking institutions. Something you Yankees desperately need, ever since you allowed Ben Bernanke anywhere near a piggybank like the Fed.
As for the rest of Europe, fuck them. Serves them right. But the two of you ride the same sinking boat.
"Actually, Sweden is doing quite fine, because we don't have the same problems with corruption and embezzlement you Americans do;.."
Sweden has a mere 8 million timid people whereas America has about 320 million from all corners of the world, has small states bigger than Sweden, brings in many immigrants, has millions of illegal immigrants, is a highly dynamic free enterprise economy highly innovative.
what facts? Sweden has about 8 million timid, passive people,..our cities have bigger economies and budgets! Sweden basically lives and thrives off the economic droppings of far more dynamic, robust, innovative countries bordering your tiny land space. You benefit from free technology transfers and innovations by far more motivated peoples and you don't spend on defense relying upon others like parasites!
how do those facts square with your brain washed Nanny State mentality?
genie, genie, genie. So little your brain is. An economy is inevitably dependent on the size of the population, so that you have cities with larger budgets depend on larger populations. It doesn't show anything else, but how could you know?
.
Germany and Japan didn't get wealthy wasting their budgets on defence either, little genie.
what will it take to convince you that you're delusional and highly uninformed? Economies are NOT dependent on population alone as you suggest so foolishly! there are other variables that play huge roles, but your limited mind is oblivious to them! According to your logic India and China would have much more robust economies than America but they don't.
Countries are not wealthy, rather it is individual entities that comprise the wealth
It's not possible for 8 million to produce the same as 300 million, duuh.
.
"US military budget allows you the internet "
The U.S military is also the largest drain on U.S government spending. And no, it doesn't allow me the internet, if anything it prohibits freedom on the internet.
China and India have potential but not yet lived up to it.
the US military spending normally is a very small percentage of GDP and is acceptable to most! By far, very very far, the biggest drain on the budget are social programs instituted by liberals, being SS, Medicare, Medicaid, various other wealth transfer programs, pork barrel spending, foreign aid, UN, interest on debt, a huge Federal workforce with redundant agencies etc

ObssesedNuker 2 weeks ago 8
@ObssesedNuker Its worse, its terrorism.
michalchik 2 weeks ago
@michalchik That is debatable. Assassination can be an instrument of terrorism, but this doesn't seem to be the case. The Israelis are kiling these scientists with the intention set back the Iranian nuclear program, not to sow terror. Mind you, I don't think they are in the right by doing so...
ObssesedNuker 2 weeks ago
@ObssesedNuker It is arguable I agree, but the secondary effects of terrorizing the rest of the scientists in the program and the use of a method outside of war that does not discriminate against killing civilians, and the use of a method that maximizes horror as opposed to a bullet or poison, all accentuates the horror. I think this really is terrorism.
michalchik 1 week ago
Even by Irans own polling statistics, close to 15% of the country doesn't support even a peaceful nuclear energy program in the country. I wouldn't be so quick to point fingers until we have all the facts. I mean are you seriously saying that those Iranians who oppose the nuclear program and would be thrown in prison or executed for saying this publicly and who are tired of the cripiling economic sanctions have no motivation to do this themselves.
durhamdf 2 weeks ago
Didn't Rick Santorum say that he prayed that it was the US that was responsible for the murders of these scientists?
mchandler2112 2 weeks ago 2
Actually all of Iran's Arab neigbors are nervous about their getting the Bomb, though they won't state so publicly, so don't just assume that its US or Israel by default. And those inspectors your talking about weren't even allowed into the country until a short time ago and even then were only shown what the Iranians wanted them to see, so they didn't have the complete picture of Iran's nuclear program.

MORALITY !!!!!!!
Sergionewyork 1 month ago
The fact is we don't know all the facts. IF the scientist involved here was indeed working on a nuclear weapons program I have a hard time getting worked up about this. He is working for the military industrial complex and is a legit target if our goal is to prevent nuclear build up of an "enemy" state. Surely that is better than an all out war, or worse yet a nuclear confrontation? If this succeeds in preventing a nuclear armed Iran I think it is a price worth paying unfortunately.
rastamasta91 1 month ago
Lemme pull some out some kewl quotes from Iranian ambassador Soltanieh to the IAEA, "Israel must be wiped off the map of the world, and god willing....", or, "we shall soon experience a world without the United States and Zionists". If I was the Isreali president Shimon Peres, and Iran openly stated that there single goal in life is to wipe Isreal off the earth, and at the same time they begin to develop a "nuclear energy program", your damn right I might take some affirmative action....
ingosnow25 1 month ago
I doubt this is the US and really hope it wasnt. Despite them working on enriching uranium, it wasnt those scientists fault. They were innocent and following orders, they shouldnt have been killed. Israel your digging yourselves a hole and need to stop. Depending on whos President next here, dont be surprised if your all alone.
Melexonitrate 1 month ago
@Melexonitrate I don't agree that they are "innocent". They may be doing what they believe to be right, but it does not make them innocent any more than your average soldier is innocent. IF they are developing nuclear weapons they are responsible for their actions even if they are "just following orders." Unfortunately nuclear scientists cannot escape responsibility for their actions any more than a general.
rastamasta91 1 month ago
@rastamasta91 Which ever person or country assassinated the scientists, the only thing they are really doing is slowing them down. They will produce nuclear weapons, whether it's this year or 5 years. They could always buy a nuke from Russia, When pressure increases that option might be more and more viable as time goes on. In my opinion these were useless killings that are more counterproductive than productive. Killing brings more killing.
Melexonitrate 4 weeks ago
@rastamasta91 Crippling the countries economy is a far better form of way to make sure they do not get nukes. But then again Russia and China may step up and help them. With Russia, China, and other middle eastern countries in play. This isnt just Iran and Israel. This is more like , half the world VS the other half of the world.. Killing people (scientists) on the enemies side is an act of war. Sadly. They need to step up covert non physical measures instead of killing.
Melexonitrate 4 weeks ago
@Melexonitrate Frankly I'm not sure that crippling the country's economy is a "better" way. I'm sure that the people who will suffer most will be the truly "innocent" and vulnerable, unlike the scientists knowingly participating in a nuclear weapons program.
rastamasta91 4 weeks ago
@rastamasta91 I personally think It's a great way, Most of the "sanctions" we are putting on them are boycotts. If a country is hurting for money with their people, It's up to the country to protect them. If they let their own people die just to make a nuclear weapon instead of taking care of them, shame on them. All of their deaths and suffering are on that country's leaders, not us. In the bible it says all nations will be against Israel. They really only have one ally left.
Melexonitrate 3 weeks ago
@Melexonitrate Sanctions are one way. However, I am not sure how effective it will be, and whether or not "we" are solely to blame is irrelevant to me if it causes wide spread suffereing. We shall see with time. My position is simply that targetted assassinations shouldn't necessarily be off the table, and that they are preferable to full scale war.

Finally - Nuclear Power & Nuclear Weaponry go hand in hand. You develop the former to build the latter.
vendurra 1 month ago
It's nothing like total war, these were precise military targets - the braintrusts of Iran's Nuclear Bomb program.
vendurra 1 month ago
You can't trust Iran or its leaders, ever.
vendurra 1 month ago
If there is one thing I can say with 100% conviction, is this: Iran can not be trusted with Nuclear Power of any kind. Israel knows this, the Pentagon knows it. Many world leaders also know this.
Developing nuclear weapons isn't done by "civilians", at least in the conventional sense of the word "civilian". Nuclear power is a threat to us all, and those who develop it for rogue states should be treated as enemy combatants. Last I checked, Iran IS a rogue state.

@FuriousPumpkin terrorism /ˈterəˌrizəm/ noun: The use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims.
It's the textbook definition of terrorism, you schmuck.
brandnutopian 1 month ago 16
@brandnutopian Umm... no. Theres a diffrence between terrorism and an assassination.
Assassination: the act of deliberately killing someone, especially a public figure, usually for hire or for political reasons.
oogey123 1 month ago
@oogey123 The "political aim" is to deny Iran the ability to pursue nuclear capabilities. Assassination is simply the mode of terrorism. Calling it an assassination does not exclude it from being an act of terror.
If a foreign power were to systematically murder a strategic subset of US scientists, would you not consider that an act of terror?
brandnutopian 1 month ago
@brandnutopian So allowing Iran, a rouge nation known for its instability, to develop nuclear weapons is okay? The US, Israel or whoever did this saved the world from a whole lot of trouble in the future. If a foreign power were to kill a US scientist for no other reason than to just kill him, yeah, it's terrorism. If the same scientist was killed because he was possibly helping a country develop weapons to destroy the world as we know it, then no, I would not consider that terror.
oogey123 1 month ago
@oogey123 If they did it with no other reason but to kill them, that would make it murder. These definitions of terrorism, murder, assault, etc, aren't arbitrary ones to which you attribute meaning at will. They're legal definitions.
By definition, the systematic killing of Iranian scientists to prevent Iran from obtaining the bomb is terrorism. It is a political act.
Gloss it over with a much bullshit as you wish, it's terrorism.
brandnutopian 1 month ago
@brandnutopian Most terrorists don't target people who develop nuclear bombs for rogue states.
This was clearly a textbook example of a military target. There is absolutely nothing "civilian about a nuclear weapons program", especially when said nuclear weapons program is being developed in Iran.
That said, Iran should have went solar & wind for energy (which we all should be doing). We can trust them with that. They went nuclear because they want to build bombs with it, pure and simple.

IMPALEXANDERAVG 1 month ago
@IMPALEXANDERAVG No, dipshit. Uranium has to be enriched to weaponized grade and even at that, they need to be mounted on a fissile vehicle and that vehicle needs to be mounted on a compatible missile that does not degrade the uranium due to heat.

MajorBookworm100 1 month ago

Such acts of violence and provocation justify a speedy acquiring of nuclear arms. A nuclear-armed Iran would entirely be the making of the West.

@arsacesofconcobar
finally, you explain your delusional idiotic views,..you live in Sweden probably sharing a basement suite with "underbjorn", munching Swedish meatballs with him!
Anyone living in Sweden doesn't have any clue about wars and what it takes to protect a Nation. Sweden has always been a neutral bunch allowing others to rid the planet of demons saving their asses in the process
there is little doubt that a Country using suicide attacks as a strategy would not use nuclear weapons

genie, a suicide bomber is not the same as a nuclear attack. This is above your tiny geniebrain, :(

haha, what an idiot you are!
suicide bombers use bombs and a nuclear weapon is a bomb but it seems your delusional, depraved little mind can't find the nexus

Now please shut the fuck up.

@arsacesofconcobar Show me where I said Iran should be invaded. Show me where I said that. I'll wait.
JCRF 1 month ago
@JCRF You implied it, with the black-and-white rhetoric of the world watching Iran as if it was a belligerent nation that would unleash nuclear pandemonium at will.
Just because Iranians don't like the theocracy, does not mean we are turncoats who would suddenly sell out the country for peanuts to appease "Western" aspirations.
It's like implying the OWS-movement supports an invasion on US soil, just because they want social equality and the abolishing of the NDAA and SOPA.
arsacesofconcobar 1 month ago
@JCRF What entire world? The Russians assisted the Iranians with their nuclear programme, and Iran maintains a brisk trade throughout the Middle East, Central Asia, India, China and the Mediterranean.
Right now, more and more countries are expressing solidarity with Iran's inalienable right to develop peaceful nuclear technology. You haven't seen the carbon-dioxide pollutions of down-town Tehran. Take your ass out of your US-centric world view, you are becoming increasingly belligerent.
arsacesofconcobar 1 month ago
@JCRF What kind of an argument is that? "If you don't like the US, move to Iran and enjoy your repression". That's kindergarten rhetoric. Would you tell this to the anti-war movement too?
I mean the fact is, you pulled the human rights card, but couldn't account for the fact that America is guilty of doing precisely the same shit too. When you got called out for doing this, you didn't hesitate to say "Go move to Iran".
That's black and white reasoning. Remember Iraq and those WMDs?
arsacesofconcobar 1 month ago
@JCRF ---
Stoning in Iran hardly is a common feature, you think of Afghanistan 1996-2001.
And any of your accusations could be applied to both post-war Soviet Union, 1960s PRC and today's North Korea.
.
Nuclear weapons in real politics are always used as a powerful political bargaining tool, sabre rattling and general deterrence.
underbjorn 1 month ago
@underbjorn Stoning is part of Islamic law which is strictly enforced in Iran. Only recently has a moratorium been placed on it, but since then several sentences have still been handed down. It is still on the books.
JCRF 1 month ago
@JCRF No. The moratorium on stoning was laid out already in 2002, which worked well for secular law-makers, enabling them to remove stoning altogether from the penal code formally in 2009. You are twisting facts into falsehoods.
Show me these administered stoning sentences that occurred post-2002.
arsacesofconcobar 1 month ago
@JCRF ---
Stoning has never been widely practiced in Iran and only a few cases have actually led to execution of stoning, most were turned into other penalties.
And regardless, using that as a point of Iran's nuclear programme is an appeal to emotional xenophobia of "the savage other". The United States still executes people as well, just as barbaric in my eyes to be stoned as be wiped out by a long-range drone or pepper-sprayed to death in police custody.
underbjorn 1 month ago
@JCRF And with the NDAA and SOPA, America is such a haven of democracy. The US has left Iraq in disaster and Afghanistan is not exactly a success saga. You have to be pretty damned blind to advocate aggressive war against Iran, a nation of 75 million people, on the basis of suspected weapons of mass-destruction.
And gee, isn't that a familiar story? Yes, if the US seriously considers attacking Iran, that country has an obligation to protect its citizens. A nuclear deterrent would do.
arsacesofconcobar 1 month ago
@arsacesofconcobar I never advocated war with them, again you are talking to yourself. Show me where I said we should go to war with them.
I believe them going nuclear is a terrible thing to world stability, and that's all I said. That is my opinion, I don't speak for any country, just for myself. So spare me the attacks on the US, I'm not even American.
JCRF 1 month ago
@JCRF And why is that such a terrible thing to world stability? Pakistan has had them officially since the test at the Chagai Hills. Hundreds of nukes. India has them. Since Operation Smiling Buddha. Hundreds of nukes. North Korea has them. Israel has them. Hundreds and some of them even H-bombs.
None of those countries signed the NPT. And yet, you live your life like usual. Every day. You don't really even give a shit about it.
So far you've spread misinformation; give peace a chance.
arsacesofconcobar 1 month ago
@JCRF Iran does not have long-range missiles. In fact none of Iran's current ballistics support the mounting of a fissile vehicle.
CIA reports consistently point out that Iran has no nuclear weapons, nor has the capacity to develop them. Even Leon Panetta reluctantly admitted this.
Now, if somebody attacked Iran, you would probably piss and moan about the fact that they have means to self-defence, wouldn't you, you sanctimonious fuck. US exceptionalism is the problem.

@genie0390 False. History shows that Iran has not invaded or launched any aggressive wars since the early Qajar era, which was a good bit over two centuries ago.
Iran as a nation does not differ in the matter of self-preservation. You really should stop making this shit up. I've been an Iranian exiled dissident all my life, but there is no way anyone rational will ever agree with you.
arsacesofconcobar 1 month ago
@arsacesofconcobar
Iran DOES differ in the matter of self-preservation!
The US had every reason to develop such weapons being in a fight for it's survival fighting total war against it on 2 fronts
During cold war, US economic system and freedom was under severe threat from world domination by Soviets and communism
Iran is driven by hatred of Jews and Israel and by its desire to be a major player in the ME, not be self-preservation!
As for nobody agreeing with me, I didn't start sanctions
genie0390 1 month ago
@genie0390 No. It does not. Just because you say they don't, doesn't mean it's true. Provide evidence that speak of anything otherwise, or be quiet.
And what do you mean Iran is driven by hatred of the Jews? The largest minority of Jews live in Iran, numbering over 25,000 individuals and they are represented in the Iranian parliament. You're just spouting fabrications now.
Nobody agrees with you, because you say stupid things with the agenda of war-mongering. Why do you want war?
arsacesofconcobar 1 month ago
@arsacesofconcobar
I guess we're not in an agreement with respect to Iran's intentions. Sadly, it's come down to who do I believe?, you or my lying eyes and ears!
As for Jews in Iranian Parliament, we both know that the Parliament has no real power in Iran. The radical insane Clerics have the final word.
Unless Iran is prevented from acquiring nuclear weapons, the entire ME will be drawn in a nuclear arms race and nothing good can come from that.
Btw, how come you're a dissident in exile?
genie0390 1 month ago
@genie0390 No, we are not in agreement; the difference is, my motivations are objective and grounded on fact. You however regurgitate Fox News rhetoric. Iran has no nuclear weapons and can not develop nuclear weapons. The CIA reports have confirmed this for several years and recently Leon Panetta reiterated this fact.
You are therefore fear-mongering.
And no, the parliament does wield some power; Iran is not the same as it was 15 years ago. Times change and you ought to follow it.
arsacesofconcobar 1 month ago
@arsacesofconcobar
Here we go again bullshit by the delusional!
You should go back!
genie0390 1 month ago
@genie0390 Those media outlets are not leftist on anyone's spectrum outside of the US. You obviously have not read Salon.com or anything written by real journalists, like Glenn Greenwald, or Seymour Hersch.

@arsacesofconcobar
You have few problems because you don't do much.

Except the World Economic Forum, the gathering of greatest capitalist leaders in the world, declared Sweden the most competetive economy in 2010.
.
Oh right...little genie knows better than such facts!
underbjorn 1 month ago
@underbjorn
what facts? Sweden has about 8 million timid, passive people,..our cities have bigger economies and budgets! Sweden basically lives and thrives off the economic droppings of far more dynamic, robust, innovative countries bordering your tiny land space. You benefit from free technology transfers and innovations by far more motivated peoples and you don't spend on defense relying upon others like parasites!
how do those facts square with your brain washed Nanny State mentality?
genie0390 1 month ago
@genie0390 ---
genie, genie, genie. So little your brain is. An economy is inevitably dependent on the size of the population, so that you have cities with larger budgets depend on larger populations. It doesn't show anything else, but how could you know?
.
Germany and Japan didn't get wealthy wasting their budgets on defence either, little genie.
underbjorn 1 month ago
@underbjorn
what will it take to convince you that you're delusional and highly uninformed? Economies are NOT dependent on population alone as you suggest so foolishly! there are other variables that play huge roles, but your limited mind is oblivious to them! According to your logic India and China would have much more robust economies than America but they don't.
Countries are not wealthy, rather it is individual entities that comprise the wealth

underbjorn 1 month ago
@underbjorn
again, you're highly uninformed!
the US military spending normally is a very small percentage of GDP and is acceptable to most! By far, very very far, the biggest drain on the budget are social programs instituted by liberals, being SS, Medicare, Medicaid, various other wealth transfer programs, pork barrel spending, foreign aid, UN, interest on debt, a huge Federal workforce with redundant agencies etc
