I can't say the same for Metallica. They're overrated. They haven't put a decent album out in 20 years and by the way.... Bullet for my Valentine are terrible.

@ohgoditsjames94 I love Chuck's work, especially ITP & Symbolic, but you've got to admit, like Dave, both have a limited soloing style, melodically. Dave does a very predictable pattern, build up pentatonic thing and Chuck does the same middle eastern licks in almost every solo sans stuff like "To Forgive is to Suffer" which is an amazing lead, along with most of his stuff on TSOP. To me, before that, Chuck didn't always have a lot to say with his leads. Both are incredible songwriters.
@ohgoditsjames94 Anyway, to add on to the previous comment, not really arguing in any case. I'm floored by both guitarists and find them both inspiring in their own ways. The extended version of "She Wolf" on Rude Awakening dvd is one of the coolest guitar sections I've ever heard. Both Dave and Chuck have so many memorable riffs it's crazy. I probably like a greater variety of Dave's songs but Chuck's best stuff... like Trapped In a Corner or Voice of the Soul is about as good as it gets.

@XxBFMV24xX I agree and disagree. When it comes to rhythm guitar nobody beats mustaine. Look at the riffs dude! Holy Wars, Wake Up Dead, Devils Island they're all so good. Mustaine is the godfather of the riff. However I do agree Dimebag can solo much better then Mustaine however I'm not knocking him too much Dave can write some pretty fitting solos for his music. (Ie: Sweating bullets, technically brilliant? No. Just soo chaotic that it fits the song) Just my opinion.

Hammet has great solos. Metallica always cared about uniqueness in their music. Every solos of theirs are unique. And this trick that dave does ismt hard and many can do it.

I'm a big fan of both Dave Mustaine and Chuck Schuldiner. Chuck might be a more skilled guitar player but when I compare the 2 bands (Death and Megadeth), I dont really think any of them is better.
Megadeth is a bit more mainstream orientated, but at the same time alot diffrent from the other mainstream metal bands during the 80s and 90s. They fit in with them, but they are the most original too. Thats their power.
When you pick songs like Good Mourning Black Friday, Mary Jane or Five Magics, or most of the songs really from their first 4 albums, you'll hear Dave is a musical mastermind just like Chuck was.

Oh I couldnt agree any more, Kirk Hammet isnt even relevant on a page where Dave and Chuck are mentioned. I mean, Kirk does his job, but the only songwriter Metallica has ever known is James Hetfield, big respect for him, but the rest of them are just boring, always have been.
Anyway, I think Chuck is indeed just one step ahead on Mustaine in terms of songwriting, but I have come to a point where I like both simple music like Johnny Cash, and technical like Dream Theater.
And yeah you're right about simple music and Technical Music, is always nice to switch between the too, although, I can't talk, I've not listened to anything but Death, for well over a Month now, I'm too obsessed with the technical side of it
Haha yeah when you know Death nothing really is special anymore, however, I really recommend trying Dream Theater. It might sound like some kind of over-the-top-forced-homosexual-epicness at first but they just put so much emotion in their 10min+ long songs, and so many tempo changes and stuff... Insane. Images & Words is their best album for that. Also Cynic (with drummer and guitarist from Human album) and Sadus (Band from Steve DiGiorgio) are amazing once you get used to em.

By the way, big big big respect for Steve DiGiorgio. Biggest flaw in Chucks carreer is not having Steve playing on all his albums (or at least, the last 2 of Death). Steve takes music to a whole diffrent level, a whole new league, if you give him the chance to. And Chuck did give him the chance to do that on Individual Thought Patterns and you know exactly what I mean probably.
@45thundertrain Chuck wrote plenty of Catchy riffs, that are also 100 times more technical than anything Dave has ever wrote, you just aren't into Death like proper Death fans, and why? Because Death isn't a very well known band.
Dave is good, as I said to the other guy who I had a nice chat with on this page, the other day, who also agreed Chuck was much better than Dave in terms of skill and writing, because you simply cannot compare Technical/progressive Death metal with Basic Thrash Metal

@JwithDinky I'm not bashing, as I said, I think Dave is good too, but just no where near the level that Chuck was at, especially if Chuck was still alive, the 10years that he's been dead, he could have written another 4-5 albums, which would of seen him improve technically and musically even more....
As for the riffs/solos thing, I mentioned chucks riffs to Daves solos, and there is no point comparing Daves riffs to Chucks either, because one is massively more technical
It' s a bit difficult when you don't have a good morphology. But you can do this lick in tapping without hurt your inch but for sure it's less demonstrative x)

@ohgoditsjames94 I love Chuck's work, especially ITP & Symbolic, but you've got to admit, like Dave, both have a limited soloing style, melodically. Dave does a very predictable pattern, build up pentatonic thing and Chuck does the same middle eastern licks in almost every solo sans stuff like "To Forgive is to Suffer" which is an amazing lead, along with most of his stuff on TSOP. To me, before that, Chuck didn't always have a lot to say with his leads. Both are incredible songwriters.

@ohgoditsjames94 Anyway, to add on to the previous comment, not really arguing in any case. I'm floored by both guitarists and find them both inspiring in their own ways. The extended version of "She Wolf" on Rude Awakening dvd is one of the coolest guitar sections I've ever heard. Both Dave and Chuck have so many memorable riffs it's crazy. I probably like a greater variety of Dave's songs but Chuck's best stuff... like Trapped In a Corner or Voice of the Soul is about as good as it gets.

@XxBFMV24xX I agree and disagree. When it comes to rhythm guitar nobody beats mustaine. Look at the riffs dude! Holy Wars, Wake Up Dead, Devils Island they're all so good. Mustaine is the godfather of the riff. However I do agree Dimebag can solo much better then Mustaine however I'm not knocking him too much Dave can write some pretty fitting solos for his music. (Ie: Sweating bullets, technically brilliant? No. Just soo chaotic that it fits the song) Just my opinion.

I'm a big fan of both Dave Mustaine and Chuck Schuldiner. Chuck might be a more skilled guitar player but when I compare the 2 bands (Death and Megadeth), I dont really think any of them is better.
Megadeth is a bit more mainstream orientated, but at the same time alot diffrent from the other mainstream metal bands during the 80s and 90s. They fit in with them, but they are the most original too. Thats their power.
Death is pure underground musical mastermindness.

Oh I couldnt agree any more, Kirk Hammet isnt even relevant on a page where Dave and Chuck are mentioned. I mean, Kirk does his job, but the only songwriter Metallica has ever known is James Hetfield, big respect for him, but the rest of them are just boring, always have been.
Anyway, I think Chuck is indeed just one step ahead on Mustaine in terms of songwriting, but I have come to a point where I like both simple music like Johnny Cash, and technical like Dream Theater.

Haha yeah when you know Death nothing really is special anymore, however, I really recommend trying Dream Theater. It might sound like some kind of over-the-top-forced-homosexual-epicness at first but they just put so much emotion in their 10min+ long songs, and so many tempo changes and stuff... Insane. Images & Words is their best album for that. Also Cynic (with drummer and guitarist from Human album) and Sadus (Band from Steve DiGiorgio) are amazing once you get used to em.

By the way, big big big respect for Steve DiGiorgio. Biggest flaw in Chucks carreer is not having Steve playing on all his albums (or at least, the last 2 of Death). Steve takes music to a whole diffrent level, a whole new league, if you give him the chance to. And Chuck did give him the chance to do that on Individual Thought Patterns and you know exactly what I mean probably.

Dave is good, as I said to the other guy who I had a nice chat with on this page, the other day, who also agreed Chuck was much better than Dave in terms of skill and writing, because you simply cannot compare Technical/progressive Death metal with Basic Thrash Metal

@JwithDinky I'm not bashing, as I said, I think Dave is good too, but just no where near the level that Chuck was at, especially if Chuck was still alive, the 10years that he's been dead, he could have written another 4-5 albums, which would of seen him improve technically and musically even more....
As for the riffs/solos thing, I mentioned chucks riffs to Daves solos, and there is no point comparing Daves riffs to Chucks either, because one is massively more technical
