@roadstar499 Thanks for the feedback... At the time we had 12 batteries with Tamiya connectors. It seemed a lot of hassle to change all the connectors on them so we changed the ones on the car – plus 15 odd years ago Tamiya was the only way… since making the video we have learned a lot. We have since invested in some Lipo’s so have gone back to Deans. When I get time I will edit the clip to say this. We should be starting some more videos soon (HSP XSTR, and some planes too).
@RCrudi These are excellent cars for the price...Yes deans s all we use here...i have never had connectors get hot or fail and i run 40c 2-4s lipo 5000 in my boats...Maybe there are better plugs, but i definitely perfer them over the old tamaya's which i stopped using a long time ago
Just to clarify what these reviews are. RC Rudi is a 14 year old boy (12 when the first video was done) who’s dad raced & flow RC for well over 20 years… these vids are intended for beginners, to introduce newcomers into RC with out spending a fortune, folk who will go on to buy expensive cars, planes, boats etc and support the RC world and give us someone to compete with.
PLEASE BE CONSTRUCTIVE in your comments & offer tips to our viewers rather than obvious or bigoted nonsense.
Yes HSP sucks, it keeps cutting out while its moving. Reverse doesnt work most of the time. It stutters on take off. Not to mention when they "fixed" it - it had more problems when i got it back with absolutely no tread left on the tires !
Hi Mate, we've had 8 HSP's and no cut outs or stuttering problems. They are budget cars aimed at the hobby/play market so some of the parts are made a little cheap and can snap. Your problem sound electrical, motor/esc fault or a receiver twitch. We’ve not experience electrical problems (other than after soaking them) so yours must have just been an unfortunate irregular glitch. Seeing as they are so cheap I would ask for a replacement.
@MMAfuel Also, the factory settings of the ESC are like most cars with brushless – pulling back on the stick acts as a brake, you can only reverse after the car has stopped and you have relaxed the stick/trigger back to neutral position and back again. Unlike brushed motors, brushless do not take well to being shunted in reverse whilst running in forward. A bit frustrating to start with but soon get used to it. The settings can be changed with regards to the brake and reverse.
@MMAfuel "it had more problems when i got it back with absolutely no tread left on the tires !" Hope you went strait back to them... thats taking the p**s, who are "they" HSP or a local shop... name and shame!
@akiduzair Thanks, Can you elaborate? What bad experiences you have had and on which model? ‘Suck’ depends on what your expectations are… they are no good for proper club racing (pro) but we have found them good for having a few mates with the identical cars having a couple of hours racing in a carpark (parking lot) or on a dirt track. This is one of the compromises, cheap = lower quality, but all your mates can afford to have one meaning lots of people to race. Again… expectation.
@otaner142 Hi, the media that came with the car claimed 50-60mph but we do not have the speed gun equipment to verify this. The nitro warhead claimed to have a top speed of 60+ and it kept up with it (see end of video). Not sure I can believe the advertising myself without them backing it up with speed gun evidence? They are bloody quick for a budget car, once you have mastered the throttle to reduce the wheel spin.
"facepalm" is a new on to me... Thanks! As said, the connectors where changed as when ever we have purchased new batteries they seem to always come with the Tamiya connector.... remember this was for the newbie and my 13 year old son.... not a serious racer! A Serious/Pro racer would not be looking at one of these cars? Dad.
Thanks. These video where made to review entry level cars, not pro racers. The connector was changed for a Tamiya type as they are more common when buying extra batteries… a few milli ohms is going to make no difference to the hobby racer that these cars and videos are intended. Your comment is somewhat belittleing and geeky which will only put newcomers off joining clubs and comp and starting in RC. We would appreciate your knowledge on recommending tyre selection and suspension set-up.
WTF, it comes with deans plug connectors standard, and you are going to chop them off to put tamiyas. deans connectors are the best type of connectors you can get, they have the least amount of resistance, so all pro rc car racers use it. why in the world would you chang them for shitty tamiyas?
I need some helpful insight, sir. I know nothing about radio controlled cars. Nothing. My field is cameras.
If I was to be looking for a radio controlled RC car that was able to support a DSLR camera, which one would best suit my needs? Let's say 5 pounds at the very most. Which RC car would be able to support a camera, and also - would the car tip over?
@mark84j well to answer that question, i'm gonna say NONE!. i am also into DSLR cameras and RC things. i am assuming that you would probably want to take pictures from awkward angles. i would suggest getting a electric rc buggy (not high performance, only standard.) and then purchasing a rc vehicle on-board camera. if you check out my channel, you will find a video with my on-board heli-cam eco one helicopter. if you have anymore questions just send me a message. hope this helps :)
i have a hsp xstr, i think its perfect for starters like me...just wish the parts are easier to get..
