How does EvE do their xpacs? Read bout EvE, go to their website...but never truely understood how they do the xpacs...not as obious as WoW xpacs in what new goodies you get.

Been thinking bout reinstating my acct, tried EvE a long time ago during one of my breaks from WoW n am at a point where I'm truely done w/ WoW for reasons like others have stated here. I guess I like all the aspects of EvE online...PvP, missions, trade, industry...but not so much on the mining part.

I have played the trial for WoW maybe 2 to 3 times to try to see if i truely liked it.

I tried most classes and almost all of the races,

It was fun but for all classes and races, i never really got passed level 10 before getting really bored.

Eve was getting the same way too when i tried it, but then I found out some friends of mine irl play, so that made me go into a paid account and its been fun playing with them.

The fact of the matter is, EVE comes across as the younger, less successful brother of WoW. And every time you EVErs open your mouths to talk more shit, you just look sour and jealous that my 80Death Knight would pwn your entire fleet.

WoW, i play it still, and have since the release. But its just not fun that all the hard work i put into grinding gear / rep, 3 months later its welfare items for badges / honor... Its just so f'ing pointless, when you've been at it for several years. I love WoW i really do. But I just cant play it on an elitist level since its all to noob friendly.

Except WOW and star wars galaxy are (heavily) instanced. What you do in one instance doesn't have the chance to affect every single other player on the game.

Peak concurrent users for Eve is 51,675. That's 50 thousand players your playing with in the same game 'server'. not 100, 200, a thousand... 51k.

WOW claims 630k but that's across 241 servers? Taking the average, that means there's only 2700 per server.

Seems like a drop in the bucket to me.

Actually I'm getting the picture in mind here, a level 80 death knight on his mount trying to face down a capital ship... and it's kinda comical.

The problem? Well.. that death knight in all his glory is what, 9 ft tall with his mount? 10 if he stands on the stirrups?

Incidentally, to all the WoW-haters, I now play WoW. ;) I played Eve faithfully for awhile but permanent loss + server errors + TERRIBAD customer service = fail. I'm not sure where the huge anti-WoW sentiment comes from amongst Eve-Online players, but it's actually not a bad game :X

@FeralSheWolf I think it's because most EvE players like the complexity, scale, freedom and PvP. You got to admit that WoW is a very restricted game compared to EvE.

I've played both of the games and I prefer EvE. However, none of the games are actually bad. It's just a matter of opinion. WoW is easy to get started in and to play while EvE is, in my opinion, very hard to get started in and to play.

I think, just my opinion of Wow haters, is they like how evilly hard the learning curve is at the start, because it weeds out all the "less then favorable" people. While in WOW, you have have people of all skill ranges, because its easy to get into to, Eve gets rid of all the "low skill" people.

@FeralSheWolf I liked WoW cause I have been a Blizzard fan since Warcraft/Diablo days [1995-ish].  Plus, graphics were pretty. But WoW is just so boring. Same mob same place time after time. Plus, you want to play with a friend, can't just join game gotta join right server. I got bored with WoW cause it doesn't involve the planning, design, strategy and tactics of EVE.

@FeralSheWolf Wow isn't a bad game. But it's hardly perfect. Sometimes you put TONS of time into it for very little advancement. Unless you have the perfect guild, you will lose alot of time just running the dungeons while others gain gear. Your schedule has to match theirs and you have to play with them constantly so they trust you to let you maybe get gear over others. DKP sort of helps, but not much. I had fun with WoW, but I'm done with it. Thinking of picking up EVE today.

I could see piloting a frigate with a joystick. There are a couple videos with a frig being flown with one . The script is supposed to be complex but approaching useability.

yeah its really hard to hotkey the button on the joystick to be the button for orbit at set distance.

yes, it is actually. There is no keyboard hotkey for "orbit" and thus it can not be hotkey'd. And since the script runs by effectively double clicking in the appropriate space, and will only work 100% with screen tabbed blank, doing anything while its running is really hard. I'm so tired of people commenting when you really have no fucking clue.

There's just a rediculous amount of factions based on PvP. One of the best known is Band Of Brothers(BoB)

The rest are about evenly matched, its all up to preferences at that point.

I'd say Gallente are good for cqb pvp, minmatar are good for nearly any pvp. Caldari ACHURA is good for pvp, just train another races ships. Otherwise Caldari and Amarr are mostly PVE factions.

For NPC's its Amarr but more players are Caldari, according to Eve QEN the player race numbers go like this:

1. Caldari

2. Gallente

3. Minmatar

Well, in terms of player numbers, it doesn't really matter as there's no restriction on who you can talk to and there's plenty of missions available from any race.

The difference is really in fighting style: Caldari are strong on missiles and shields, Gallente are strong on combat drones and armour, Amarr on armour and lasers and Minmatar... are a wild card.

I find FRAPS usually lags when it's one of the most logical moments for it to do that:

When you get HDD activity, or the game requires to use the HDD. as FRAPS has a rapid output of its data to the HDD (afaik and noticed).

I'm finding that the "pirates" in EVE really don't understand the concept. Maybe it's the server I'm on, but it seems (like this guy) they feel "pwning" innocents makes them pirates (yes, cargo, but not after they just arrive in lo-sec. And podding afterwards? Please.). Try making some cash by extorting and *not* blowing up everything that moves.
