Now, this test doesn't take one thing into account: the solid state control of the microwave being microwaved. Of course, the PCB eventually caught fire due to all of the heat created by the high-voltage currents being induced by the microwaves inside of the larger unit. But, if you watch the smaller unit, you can see it ceases to run (or the light bulb stops arcing) then the large unit kicks on.

Possibly you might want to look into cooking an older unit with a timer knob control.

I have told him the same thing many times in the last couple of years but he should rather just throw the microwave in the trash when it quits. It's not about money but it is about stopping waste. On my show I use everything the microwave has to offer and then I recycle it into art. I can swap out parts and keep microwaves running for as many as two dozen productions.
